Free Candy at Wags!

Starting this Sunday, the 30th, Wags will have a variety of their candies for .39 using the in-ad coupon on page 3.  One of the candies is Butterfinger, which just released a few coupons for Butterfinger Snackerz on coupons.com.  Click on the right side bar and enter zip code 23462.  Page through (you know the drill) until you’ve clicked on three coupons:  $1/2 (Kroger); $1/2 (Wags) and $1/2 (Publix and Food Lion).  These are all clearly marked as mfr coupons so print one set, go back to the coupons tab, locate the same three and print again.

I’ve read on at least three or four sites that this tiny package is part of the candy deal, so I’ve printed them just to be safe.

Also noted was that this candy is considered a “suggestive sell item” for cashiers and they earn extra commissions.

Sadly, I’ve run out of the $5 Maalox coupons with these two transactions 🙁 and am forced to rely on Gas-X…so not as much of a MM as I’d like.  Total for 8 candy bars, 8 Gas-X and 4 Maalox  was $11.81, but at least I got back $20 in RRs.

with apologies to Rachel … Spent the day with MUM, basically hitting every store within a 10 mile radius…and this includes  *dum dum dum*  Sam’s Club.  Yes, even though I espouse the coupon party doctrine, I secretly wanted to see if there was any merit in the warehouse clubs.  Since Sam’s Club has a free membership promotion going until January 25th, we stopped in.  But first:

Wags:  OOP $2.80; got $24 in RRs:  6 Maalox; 20 Chex Mix and 2 Splenda.  20 Chex $1/1 coupons from the Dominicks Football booklet; 6 Maalox $5/1 (1/9 S1) and 2 BOGO Splenda (1/9 S2) and $2/1 ip (from MUM, ’cause I’m too lazy to link it myself).  Since this was the only day the cat was working with the free Chex, we hit ’em hard and fast.  The Maalox deal continues through the week and boy, do I wish I had ordered coupons (shoulda, coulda, woulda)

Dominicks:  3 loaves of their incredible artisan breads (no coupons, but sheer heaven); 5 Van de Kamp fish fillets and 6 Birds eye steamers; 4 packages clearance Johnsonville Brats; 1 Ranchers Reserve steak.  Used a $2/1 Ranchers Reserve coupon from the new book, so the steak was .02,  2 $1/2 Johnsonville Brats coupons (long expired); 5 buy Van de Kamp fish and 1 Bird’s eye steamers and get $2 off, combined with the Dominicks $2 instant savings when you buy them this week (ended up costing $2 for each combo).  Had an additional free Bird’s eye when you buy the fish (from the Feb. All You).  Total was $22.46, but I used RRs to get down to $8.96.

Target:  4 Chobani quarts of vanilla yogurt (2 pictured):  used a rain check to get them for $1.20/each, or $4.88 OOP.

Sam’s Club:  The big kahuna, the main event, our raison d’etre … $39.10 before coupons — $39.10 after.  Honestly?  I just don’t see the allure of this place.  I took pictures of some of the items for comparison purposes, so you be the judge…

I think this 5 gallons of Coke bag is odd, although I realize that it’s strictly a business-type purchase.
Paying for Chex Mix seems funny, since they just paid me to take it out of Walgreens. And the salmon? You’re paying almost eight bucks a pound here when it’s less than $4 at Ultra, Jewel or even Aldi.   That’s sheer lunacy.

My favorite thing of all?  The hand dryers in the washroom!  I knew Dyson sucked, but didn’t know it blowed…

New “stuff” to “buy.” Since the 1/23 ad still has the Buy $30 get $10 on Maalox and there’s a new 25% off deal and the sizes are the ones I bought earlier this week:  buy 7 of the $5.99 regular strength 12 oz liquids for a total of $41.93 less 25%, or $31.45.  Hand over 6 $5 coupons and 1.44 (plus tax) and get back another $10 to add to the collection.  I’m seriously thinking of running an RR exchange.  Special, today only!  $10 rrs for $8.  The non-couponers would LOVE it!

You know those wonderful $70 Football coupon booklets we’ve been getting at Dominicks the past week?  There’s a $1/1 Chex Mix coupon in there which pairs up nicely with the Wags in-ad coupon (for the week starting 1/23) and the tail-end of the national catalina we used a couple of weeks ago (remember, buy 5 get $3.50 rr).  Unfortunately, the cat ends on Sunday the 23rd, so hit ’em hard and fast – we stocked up on the turtle/chocolate and cheddar flavors and only picked up one of the Bold, but it’s addicting!  I’ve gonna try for 15 booklets.

Wanted to burn through a bunch of older $10 rrs, so went a lookin’ for Joint Juice – sold out!  Yikes!  Settled for the Appetite Control Spray and a quadzillion cans of almonds.

And if I don’t look like Cheryl Burke in 30 days?  I’ll sue – but maybe showing all those cans of nuts in the same picture isn’t the smartest thing i could do …

They’ve changed the game plan on us, peeps.  No longer are they taking the $3 store coupon before the mfr coupons.  Am I upset?  Of course.  Store mgr is going to let the higher ups know that the wording does not indicate that a mfr coupon is a “discount.”  And know something else?   The  people in marketing have run this race before – it’s not a surprise to them.

So, while I couldn’t get the absolute cheapest price on my Sinex, I did quite well.  In fact I completed 12 transactions, spent $52.20 (including tax) and got back $120 in RRs, or a $67.80 profit.  boo hoo ’cause i didn’t get more?  not this camper.

Thrown into the mix are the six packages of Homestyle mac for .1666/each (sale 3/$5, $1 1/16 s coupon; $1/2 ivc) and four of the Blue Diamond almonds (I didn’t use almond coupons, ’cause I had too much overage already – so sue me).

So since I still have 19 of the $3 coupons, my game plan just changes:  1 Joint Juice and 2 cans of Blue Diamond almonds.  $14 less .75/2 blue diamond (10/10 or 12/05 s) less $3 Wags equals $10.25 plus tax.  Pay with Sinex and get back $10 in Joint Juice RR.  lather, rinse, repeat.

If they run out of the Joint Juice or you want to substitute, go for the Appetite Control Spray, which will hopefully stop you from eating all those almonds…

Hit the newest Wheaton Wags for my beloved Sinex cashinthebank deal.  Using four mfr coupons and the $3 store coupon on each transaction brought my OOP down to $1.30 (high tax); I received the $10 RR.

Spent a total of $7.80 and got back $60.  DH said “What’s wrong with you?  Why are you buying so much?”  Showed a receipt and RR; that shut his pie hole…

More milk?

Now why, you may ask, would a sane person buy nine more gallons of Dean’s milk at Wags for $1.99 when it will be free at Meijers?  Hah! ’cause it’s Meijers, the notinstockgetaraincheck – store.  This way I hit Meijers, get as many rain checks as I possibly can and sit tight until the stuff comes in, probably in a couple of weeks.   Listen, it’s not like I’m not gonna use this stuff, since we average three gallons a week and we have the polish freezer for another month.

The trunk-cam shows three transactions:  3 Dean’s milk and 1 pill glide.  $11.24 less $3 Wags coupon less $2 Kelloggs rr equals $6.24, get back $5 rr for pill glide.   If you want to calculate it another way (since we subtracted the $2 rr when calculating the net cost of the Special K already), $8.24 less $5 rr or $3.24 for three gallons of Dean’s milk and 1 pill glide.

Just wait until you see my stockpile sale.  Note for the purists:  While i might have donated some of the Sinex, pill glide, etc. items to my local pantry, the fact is that they don’t accept any OTC medications.

I give up on CVS.  When I asked about the complete lack of Maalox on the shelf, the shift manager told me that it had all been recalled…so drove up the street to Wags…

Four transactions here, the Kelloggs and pill glide were 3 and the Maalox the other.  Each transaction was for at least ten dollars, to use the $3/$10 store grand opening coupon in the weekly ad (still on display).  Cereal deal was $4.76 OOP each and got back $7 in RRs.  Maalox was 1 @ $6.99 and 4 @ $5.99, less five $5/1 coupons and $3 Wags coupon to get down to $3.44 OOP, got back $10.  That was sweet.

A reminder to all that the big Sinex push starts once again on Sunday.  The newest Wags on Naperville in Wheaton had tons of the Sinex Nyquil on display, but none of the Dayquil ones.   Using both the $4 coupons and the $3 store coupon will leave you with slightly over a buck OOP and get back $10 RR.  sweet.  Mgr welcomes couponers and plans to place a large order for the Sinex.  Now, whether or not the warehouse ships is another matter entirely…

CVS and Wags

The Finish and Air Wick were in the back of the store on end caps; none on the shelf in their regular space, so I was about to leave the store – pissed!  Make sure you ask someone if you don’t see what you need.

The items in the picture are two identical transactions:  1 Finish, 3 Air Wick Freshmatic, used a $5 ecb, a .50 CVS coupon from the magic coupon machine, 1 $2.25 Finish coupon and 3 $4 Air Wick coupons.  OOP was $2.74 and got back $10 in ecbs.  They were out of Maalox, so I’ll wait until later on in the week or hit another CVS.

Wags:

Ran four transactions, combined in this picture:  4 Special K’s; 3 cartons of eggs; 4 Go! Kids vitamins; 4 Sinex.  You can imagine the madhouse as it was the Grand Opening celebration.  I used a rain check and $16 in Sinex coupons, 2 Kellogg’s Special K BOGO coupons; 3 of the $3/10 wags coupons; $18.50 in RRs.  Got back $30 in RRs.  Since there were no mfr coupons for either the eggs or vitamins, I was able to use those items as “fillers” so I could pay down my OOP.  Actual OOP was $8.29, but since one of the $3/10 coupons wasn’t entered, I’ll stop by later in the week with my receipt and get back my $3 and tax.  Normally you can’t return to Wags with a coupon after the fact, but since this is a Wags coupon available on the display, it was obviously an error on their part, so see no problems ahead.
