Call to CVS Corporate

Got sick and tired of trying to track down the elusive “golden toothbrush” from September’s ad.  You know, the Oral B that, by combining ecbs and mfr coupon, ended up being free.  No store has ever seen one:  rather like Big Foot in that regard.  Corporate said that they prepare their ads 2 to 3 months in advance (quel surprise!) and at that time the mfr had indicated that the old model was being revamped and new ones would be shipped to the warehouse in time for the sale.  We all know how well that worked out.  They are supposed to be shipped to the warehouses starting this week – probably get there just after the coupons expire…

I also asked about the opening of the new CVS store on the corner of Naper and Ogden:  grand opening is set for 10/31 (although nothing has gone out to the surrounding neighborhood via mail or newspaper – great marketing, people).

And you wonder why my heart belongs to Wags?

CVS, blah humbug

Drove out to a much further CVS in hopes of locating that elusive golden ticket errr electric toothbrush.  This store tells me that no CVS ever got them in from the warehouse because they were discontinued 4 or 5 months ago!  I stated that the stores shouldn’t be advertising and then handing out rain checks for items they don’t carry.  Rather a swarmy way to lure in customers.  Truth or fiction?  You be the judge.  Anyway, the only reason I was even in a CVS was to burn a bunch of ecbs.  Parties unknown had removed the free Hydro gel peelies from the razors (I checked and there were sticky spots, so there!), didn’t want any other crap, so was forced, forced I tell you, to get 12 Revlon nail polishes on two cards.  Used 12 of the $1/1 Revlon coupons from 9/12 S and got me a couple of $18 ecbs and 2 extra .50 bonus ecbs expiring in November.  Bound to be something by then. Oh, the magic coupon machine had $5 off on any Halloween merchandise, decor,  etc.  Well, these candy corn lights certainly qualify and at $4.99 they were my freebie of the day.  probably sponsored by com ed…

And this is why CVS will never, repeat, never, replace Wags in my heart or in the marketplace…

CVS

You know how on the prior Wags post I said that basically CVS sucked this week?  Well, it still does, but now I have a situation where I have to burn a bunch of ecbs this week.  I’d planned to use them on the elusive electric toothbrushes, but I’m not so sure now they’ll come in during my lifetime.  Sooooo, a possible scenario for those of you who need to roll over some ecbs:  Revlon spend $3.99 get back 3 ecbs.  Use $1/1 from 9/12 S and basically it’s a wash (except for the damned taxes).  If you were lucky enough to get the $7 off when you spend $15 on Revlon from the magic coupon machine, use it and you’ve got a MM here!  I, on the other hand, have been getting really crappy coupons lately (store brand candy discount, junky jewelry deals) – I just assume the machine hates me.

To recap:  Wags = good (this week); CVS  = bad (this week, unless you need those rollin’ ecbs).

Combined shopping today – $10.78

I’m lazy, I’ll admit it.  So all the running around is combined into 1 photo,  broken down as follows:

Wags:  nada on the Pantene and Gain dish soap at two stores.  Mind you, I’ve been holding onto the Gain rain check for weeks now; coupon expires today.  Ended up taking 5 more cans of the almonds for a $3.90 subtotal, used a $2 Pantene RR, so $1.90 for 5 cans.  Off to …

Walmart for the 10 bottles of Gain for tax of .40.  Next is…

Quick stop to health club for food (did you really think I was gonna say exercise?  Nah – monthly member appreciation day means tons of great food all day long.  Lunch over, back to work…

Dominicks..Mostly crap in the clearance meat section, but had a freezer case full of clearanced Johnsonville brats in a variety of types (this is the DG store on Ogden).  There is a $1/2 coupon in 5/02 S which brings them down to $1.49 each.  Since today was National Enforce One Cat Per Transaction Day (and here I forgot to wear the t-shirt), I divided the orders into 3,and used their store coupons from the Renuzit crystals.  Eggs were free, from the new U savings program.  Chicken drumsticks were 1.29/lb, which was OK since it’s something everyone in the house eats without complaining.  Total OOP was 8.48…final stop

CVS for – nothing at all!  Thought I’d try for the golden toothbrush, but alas, although this store actually had one on the shelf when the sale started, but they sold it.  sigh   Between CVS and Wags lately, I’m experiencing life in the Soviet Union.  Total spent …. hahahahahaha, although I did get another rain check.

CVS today

It’s a sad commentary on our throw-away society that it’s cheaper for me to buy a new electric toothbrush than it is to buy replacement heads; but then, that’s what extreme couponing is all about!  Oral B Vitality at CVS is priced at $23; use the $10 coupon in the October P&G (the new pink insert) and your cost is $13 – HOWEVER, there is a $13 ecb attached to this, so, in effect, it’s free.  Use your current stash of ecb’s and it’s a wash. We currently use Oral B and like it heaps (sponsor, place your logo here).

Unfortunately, the CVS on 63rd and Main in DG never got their shipment in from the warehouse, so it’s possible this is the case for all the stores in the same district.  Good news is that I got 2 rainchecks for 2 each (limit in ad) and CVS rainchecks never expire.  The coupon exp. date is the end of October.

CVS today

I haven’t really seen what I consider great deals at CVS in a few weeks, so I haven’t been stocking up.  However,  two ecb’s were set to expire on the 21st, and I decided to work a couple of deals to use them up.  Notice I didn’t say I wanted to actually spend cash.

This picture combines two transactions, almost identical: total of 4 Right Guards, 2 Dry Idea, 2 Edge gels, 1 Schick Hydro gel and 1 Emerald pecan (Jeez, now where did that come from?).  Used 2 Right Guard $3/2 and Edge BOGO coupons (limit 2 per computer), one Emerald $1/1 coupon from 8/15 RP, $1/1 Schick Hydro gel from 8/08 SS, 2 $1/1 Dry Idea coupons.  I paid for each transactions with the $7.99 expiring ecbs and had an actual OOP of $1.51 and $1.78.  I received $6 (Right Guard) and $1.80 (Edge and Hydro) for each transaction.  I spent $3.29 OOP, used $15.98 in ecbs and got back $15.60 in ecbs.  Not too bad, I guess.

Sobe contest ends today 9/14

Not quite sure whether this makes me happy or sad.  I’ve played this stupid game nearly every day for the past few months and easily gotten a few hundred of these bottles during that time with more coupons coming by snail mail.  I don’t post all my shopping trips because it gets kind of boring for you to read:  oooh, look, Marge, she picked up another 28 bottles of Sobe for $1.95.  Unless your lives are so utterly boring that you are living vicariously through my deals…  Actually, that sounds like me and CW.

CVS today

Naturally, I just had to stop during my errands to pick up some more Sobe!  The magic coupon machine was broken (what is it with CVS and their machines lately?), which sucked, ’cause yesterday I got a $2 store coupon off Nature’s Bounty products, which I paired with two $3/1  (8/29 RP) Your Life Adult Gummy vitamins.  Since they were BOGO to start with ($8.99/2), I ended up forking over $1.99 for all this.  Sweet…

CVS is 4 nuts!

OK, yes it’s a bad pun.   I had a couple of ecbs expiring this week, so decided to make a trip to Sobeland.   The magic coupon machine gave me a $3 off of $10 in groceries, so now I had some real decisions to make…..my ecb was for $9.99 and I was purchasing the Hydro 5 razor with a $5 mfr coupon and 6 Sobes.  I decided to take 3 cans of the Planters nuts ($9), 6 Sobes, I Hydro 5 razor and 1 Hydro shave gel.  Used the $5 coupon, a free gel coupon attached to the razor package, 3 Sobe BOGO coupons, the $3 grocery coupon and the $9.99 ecb.  My OOP was $1.46.  Did this deal twice, using two cards so total for both was $2.92 for all this.

CVS

I don’t get the weekly ad in my paper, so have to go with the on-line version…So far I just see:  my beloved Sobe on a BOGO with limit 6 (you are still playing that game, aren’t you?), Edy’s ice cream BOGO with limit 4 ($1/2 in the Sept. AY magazine), Schick Hydro 3 or Hydro 5, get $4 ecb with limit 1 (use $5/1 q in 8/8 SS) and gum (Dentyne Pure, Stride Shift and Trident Layers) .99 with $.99 ecb limit 1.  There is a BOGO for the Stride Shift gum in the 5/16 SS.  My opinion of this gum?  I am a gumcoholic (hello, my name is…), very few gums I won’t chew, especially for free, but this gum was completely and totally donated.  nasty stuff…  There are a couple of coupons available for the Trident, but you have to “like” them on Facebook.  Your call, but I wouldn’t sell myself for a single pack of gum.  Now, if we’re talking multipacks…

I see that they have the Bic Soleil razors on a buy 1 get 50% off second; unfortunately it’s for the disposable, so the 8/9 S $3/1 coupon won’t apply.  Rats!

And don’t forget, ecb limits are PER CARD (hint, hint, hint).

If you see any great deals on anything, please let me know.  Sometimes it’s easy to miss things when you’re working off the monitor.
