Jewel here and now

Wanted to pick up the rest of the Dole fruit cups (Free coupons expire 12/31), but didn’t really want to clear the shelves ’cause it’s not something we need right now.  Special order got crossed in the mail, so I just took one of each product for scanning purposes and will pick up the full order sometime next week.  While there, PITA found my special order of Manischewitz chicken broth (from about six weeks ago) that had come in last night and been put on the shelf…without a shelf tag!  Turns out it was still in the system, but at last year’s $1.75 clearance price!  Kinda made up for the fact that all those IPs had expired.  This is the absolute best chicken broth I’ve ever purchased.  Could I make a better one at home?  don’t even go there…

The flavored Coffeemate quarts were marked $2.99, which is a buck cheaper than the light cream I usually buy, so five went into the cart.  Another one of those insanely long receipts (which earned me 1 game ticket – woot!) with a subtotal of almost $200.  After coupons and two $5 RRs I was at $23.  I paid with my Jewel gift card, but I’m holding on to the receipt because PITA finds those $$/$$$ cats all the time – I need that $15/$150 one I always laugh about.  Who knew?  I’m certain to get one within the next 60 days…

So my entire order

out and about…

Had a whole list of places to go and people to see…and pretty much did it all.  First stop was to Whole Foods for more of those Terra Chips and the free Celestial Seasonings.  The Indiana Popcorn Apple stuff is for Rachel.  Stacked mfr with store coupons, which made the teas free and the other items 50¢ each.  OOP ended up at $7.22.  Note that WF has pretty much never seen couponers – each and ever store coupon must be entered and overridden by a manager.  And the bagger remembered me from last week.  So they must post store coupons in the hope that no one will actually use them.  silly people…

Hit up the Danada Square Fannie May to use up our last two coupons – all out of coffee so we got our go-to chocolates:  Pixies.  Stopped in at Wags to see if Steve remembered us.  And there is nothing going on there for the next couple of weeks (although that kind of proclamation will change in a heartbeat).

Then off to the Sleep Number store (we were on Butterfield anyway) for our FREE travel pillow which came in a very nice storage bag.  Told PITA it was her Christmas present.

Our last stop was Jewel because I had a few RRs expiring and I needed to get a Starbucks gift card (NOW they tell me – why not a few weeks ago, right?).  You see here high-priced eggs, high-priced OJ, FREE bakery bread (courtesy of PITA), FREE Idahoan potatoes (coupon), FREE organic bananas (cat PITA found) two Ortega products ($1.79 each and had $1 coupons from tearpad) and a square of Boxing Cheddar cheese from Australia for which I obviously paid the airfare.  Ended up spending $1.71 after RRs and before gift card.  I’ve placed a large special order for the middle of next week to use up the Dole fruit coupons.  Now that’s going to be some serious overage on that order – PITA better find some $/$$ cats…

Jewel – tonight

I had no cream for my coffee, which is the only reason I dragged my butt over to Jewel – not for the sales, certainly.

You see here two large packages of pork roast-bone in for carnitas ($20 right there!) – with tortillas and limes accompaniment.  The lettuce was FREE using a cat, the paper towels were FREE from the Jewel Prime Rib booklet, the Smart Balance was FREE using a cat, the bakery bread was FREE using a cat and PITA swiped a $5/$50.  Paid for the three quarts of cream and the poor man’s cocaine aka nasal spray.  Subtotal was about $44 and I paid with $42 in RRs expiring over the next few days.  Ended up taking $1.67 off a gift card.

PSA

I dropped off ten of the $25 Miller rebate forms at CVS along with a couple of envelopes for people.

I WON $2! in that stupid Jewel contest!  Seriously!  And you were all impressed with the two donuts I won, right?  So who knew I’d score the big one?!   Ran two transactions (one only Scott) with two loaves of French bread (BOGO and $1 coupon – both IPs) and a pound of organic bananas (FREE cat).  PITA also “found” a cat for a free half-gallon of Smart Balance Lactose-free milk, which my Jewel doesn’t carry, so I’ll keep it around for another store.

Jewel — check your clearance rack!

You see here ten cans of Hills Bros coffee on clearance for $4 each! I think there’s a .75 coupon.  CHECK OUT YOUR LOCAL JEWEL!  This is from the Lisle Jewel – I left about 20 cans on the clearance rack.  Expiration dates are in 2013.

You can see ten transactions of the Scott toilet paper and paper towels in the cart under the coffee.  Each transaction was 50¢ OOP since I rolled each $2 catalina into the next transaction.

Scott Catalina update

I ran this at Jewel yesterday, but naturally, forgot to post about it and it took me looking at MUM’s post to remember (duh).  When you buy two items from the Scott paper categories, you will now get $2 – 3 products gets you the same $3 as last week (last week was only a buck on two items).

Rachel just emailed me that the tissues are considered Scotties and don’t normally work in Scott catalinas.  Which would explain why I didn’t get the full cat.  I’ll head over to Jewel in a little while and test out all the combinations – boy is my Jewel gonna love me tying up SCOT and cancelling all transactions when they don’t work!

I was trying out various combinations, so if you’re going to use toilet paper, don’t use the facial tissue…I don’t know why they are considered the same (maybe tissues for top and bottom?), but it won’t generate the maximum by using both in the same transaction.  I’m heading out later to get more facial tissue because the last Wags deal didn’t include the cube boxes and that’s our desperate need right now. So cubes, wipes and paper towels.  (cubes are $1.49 + 1.99 wipes refills + 1.34 paper towels) are $4.82, less $3 cat from prior deals and you pay about two bucks after high tax.  so sometimes you have to pay something.

If you’re having trouble finding enough Scotts products, the Lisle Jewel is heavily stocked on paper towels, tissues, single roll toilet paper and wipes refills (although not as many wipes as the other items).

Jewel – end of year stock up time

Almost forgot:  I also got three catalinas for the Dole fruit:  two 75¢ ones and a 50¢ one!

You’re probably sitting on a load of coupons expiring December 31, right?  I’ll keep stocking up as long as the weather holds out – no sense in just waiting for the cold and snow.

You see here four transactions, one large one and three little Scott/Homelife runs for the cats.  The large order had all the Dole fruit varieties for which I had FREE coupons and five half-pound packs of sliced Butterball turkey from the deli.  I came up just under $100, so I added the six boxes of Better Oats (4/$5) to bump it up so I could use the $10/$100 cat PITA found.  So let’s sum this up:  I had FREE coupons for everything Dole related; $3.50 coupons for the Butterball turkey; $10/$100; two $1 IPs for the Better Oats; FREE Homelife coupon (from Prime RIb booklet) and that’s it.  I was unable to use the $3 Scott cat from a prior transaction because I hadn’t spent enough.  The large transaction started at well over a hundred and ended up at less than $5, of which $2 was tax.

You know the drill on the Scott and Homelife, so why bother…

Jewel – the total ain’t pretty

I’m sitting on a stack of Register Rewards expiring NOW.  Let’s face it, the Wags deals have sucked donkey balls lately, right?  This year’s Jingle Bucks is an insult to our intelligence (use it with a $30 purchase – puhleeze!).

Yesterday I spent about $50 or $60 in RRs at Wags, stocking up on Nips for my mom (boy is she gonna be surprised!).  She likes them, they get stashed in her freezer and they’re on sale.  and i had to burn those stupid… ahem…

So you see here my Jewel purchases:  Two large packages of pork roast for carnitas were about $20 (in the oven as we speak) – the two packages of tortillas and three limes go with.  The four salads were BOGO and I’m hungry since I didn’t eat lunch, so can pretend I’m eating healthy (I have a very active imagination, okay?).  The bread was FREE using a cat that PITA found, same for the Jewel brand biscuits and a $2 Produce cat was thrown in for good measure.  The Homelife paper towels were thrown in ’cause they’re free and you can never have too many, right?  The Scott catalina purchases you already can figure out.  I took 12 of those puny Jewel chilis (mild) because they were clearanced out at 10¢ a can – the jars of jalapeno were 35¢.  The two quarts of light whipping cream are what I use in my coffee – no coupons and no sales – boo hoo.

Ended up using four $9.50 RRs and $1.75 for the main transaction; the two additional Scott ones were $1.63 each.  I ended up with 21 game tickets…with no winners whatsoever.  Between Jewel and Walgreens, it’s hard to know who’s out to screw us more –  who’d of thought CVS would end up being our go-to store!?

Jewel…lagging

Okay, I read on MUM that the Scott catalina had started early (today) and was triggering $3 on three products from separate categories.  If you only buy two products from two categories, you earn a whopping buck.  Since I’m a cynical blogger, I hauled my fat can out of the house and into the cold just to make sure it all worked.

You see here four transactions, two with the 2/$1 IP and two with no coupons at all (except the rolling cat).

With no coupons whatsoever, you will be paying $1.63, including tax for one roll of paper towels, one roll of toilet paper and one Naturals wipes refill package (the hard case one is about 30¢ more.  Make sure your store knows to stock up hard and heavy.  The Lisle Jewel has massive quantities of the toilet paper and paper towels and limited (at this point) amounts of the wipes – don’t worry!  more wipes are coming!

oh, and pay no attention to the rolls of Homelife paper towels…..

Jewel tripping

Rachel calls and asks if my Jewel has the Hormel 81 half-hams that are BOGO with the coupon in today’s newspaper (she’s gone to two stores and not found any).  Pair that with the $3 mfr coupon from the latest Jewel booklet (prime rib cover) and you’re looking at some seriously cheap ham ($3.99/lb).  I call my Jewel and am told that they got two cases in and there’s one left – road trip!

We hit Jewel and see these puny little quarter hams…seriously small and seriously expensive:  $6.49/lb (’cause they’re sliced – woot). The BOGO sign is on these puppies, but the half-hams?  MIA.  Ask mgrs and they can’t find any in back, which leads us all to believe that the warehouse is out.  They substitute a couple of the puny hams for the BOGO, use the two $3 mfr coupons and pay about two bucks, or about a buck a pound.  Also picked up a few more of the Homelife paper towels.  Rachel’s store only carries Shoppers Value brand.  stuff’s probably made out of recycled toilet paper…

Rachel didn’t realize that these paper towels are bonus items, so we got a buttload of losing game tickets but found some great FREE stuff catalinas.  and a good time was had by all…well, probably not the Jewel staff who are undoubtedly convinced i’m insane.
