Remember, Jewel is giving away paper towels

Update:  Rachel emailed me that she learned the Scott catalina is not going to be run the same as the last time.  This time you get a lousy buck for every two product categories you buy.  Well, let’s just camp out at Jewel until this one breaks, okay?  Seriously, between these pitiful promotions and the 40¢ for two item coupons, I’m starting to think I’m in the 60’s.

I ran into a reader today who was waiting for the Scott paper catalina to start on the 5th, ’cause she really needs paper towels…remember that post from last Sunday?  The one with the picture of the newest Jewel booklet A Winter’s Feast (prime rib on the cover)?  The one that has a $1 off any Homelife cleaning product?  Coming back to you now?

Well, I just picked up eight of the paper towels (along with something from the olive bar – shaddup) and a few more coupon booklets.  Both the sale and the booklet dates are through the end of December, so lots of free towels in our future.

The Scott catalina promotion that starts on Thursday (I believe) is the same one that ran last May:  Buy 1 out of different categories and get a $1 OYNO for each category.  In other words, buy one tp and one pt and get a $2 cat; buy one tp, one pt and one Naturals wipes ($1/2 coupon in 11/13 s) and get back $3.   There is a $2 off two Scott products here in CouponNetwork, but that’s it for coupons at this time.  When I find out the Scott prices (if they’re going on sale), I’ll post some scenarios.

yellow tail rebate PSA

If you have not yet mailed in your yellow tail rebate – DO NOT!!!  The current rebate form gets you $20 when you buy 12, but there is a new rebate form in the 12/11 CVS ad which gets you $36 when you buy 12!!  Yup, that’s right, $16 more bucks for the same amount purchased.  You have until 12/31/11 to purchase, 1/15/12 to get it postmarked and 1/31/12 for them to receive it.  As a matter of fact, you now have enough lead time to order coupons:  While I don’t see them on Dede, eBay has a Buy It Now for 10 coupons for $2.99.  You’d still be ahead…unless you grabbed those one or two packs at the Lisle Jewel customer service desk…

The rebate number is different on this one, so if you are planning on buying another case, go for it.   The Jewel sale is over and now the yellow tail is going for $6.49 after Preferred Card.  CVS, on the other hand, has it for 2/$11, a considerable difference.  They also offer the 10% off on six bottles or more.  So, let’s do the math here:  $5.50 x 12 = $66.  Take off 10% for the case price.  There is a tearpad on the CVS shelf for $4 off instantly when you buy 1 yellow tail with a 12 pack of Miller.  Well, hell’s bells, we need to buy the Miller for our $25 rebate, don’t we?  So 11 of the yellow tail coupons plus the $4 brings the cost down to $44.40.  Submit the receipt for $36 and you’ve just spent .70 per bottle!  Please call Emily if you want to order case amounts:  They carry Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.  If you plan to do the Miller/yellow tail rebates, you will need to have the Miller rung up separately but inform Emily (or cashier) that you are buying yellow tail and using the $4 coupon from buying the Miller.  They have no problem with this since they can’t print out duplicate receipts and you’re running two rebates.

The 12 packs of Miller are priced at $8.99 at CVS.

On another topic entirely, Emily says they are getting about 50 Norelco razors in per week, distributed on a first call – first get basis. Call the store on Thursday mornings at 7 am to have your razors put aside.

Frozen lasagna (Jewel booklet)

Remember I told you that I had a “few” of those booklets with the $3 frozen lasagna coupons?  Well, I picked up six of the Stouffers cheese lasagna (larger size) for $4.99 each (hey, that’s close enough to $5 for me).  Very, very tasty and they have Stouffer’s Dinner Club codes printed on the inside; each box earns you 20 points.  You get 100 points just for signing up and the free entree coupons start at 500 points.

One thing I learned today was that Jewel sets their frozen and dairy sale stuff out on Monday, so if you’re looking to see if there’ll be a sale, check Monday afternoon.  This is the Lisle Jewel, and don’t know if every Jewel operates on the same schedule.  So no good deals on frozen lasagna, but I guess two bucks a box won’t break the bank.  And they are good.

Jewel – why we coupon and new booklets

The first picture is crazy-high priced olive bar and deli items.  Sometime it’s nice to use your RRs and gift cards to treat yourself.  But let me tell you, paying almost $7 a pound for cheese?!!!  Makes your hands shake.  PITA found a $2 produce cat, so I picked up these carrots on sale for 1.99.  The cherry tomatoes were BOGO and I used a $1 tomato store cat PITA found.  Yes, I know I could come back with the .55 coupons from 10/16 S, but again, sometimes you just say “what the hell.”

The paper towels are the real deal:  The newest Jewel holiday booklets shown here are out and contain some great coupons and wine deals.  The booklet with the prime rib on the cover contains a $1 Everyday Essentials coupon on cleaning items (and garbage bags).  I used it to buy the paper towels on sale for $1.  This is a legitimate use, since everyone I know uses paper towels for cleaning, right?  The Bring Home the Party book has a $3 off any frozen lasagna when you buy wine…no wine purchase required.  can you say free individual lasagna?  I can.

Rebates are out

Heads up, people.  I dropped off the rebates envelopes at Jewel a short time ago, so if you asked for them there, …well, they’re there.  The others will be taken to the post office tomorrow morning.  Thanks to everyone who entered.  If I get more of the yellow tail rebate forms, I’ll let you know.

Jewel x 8

Wanted to run the $50 rebate one time to see how low I could get the deal.  Picked up 8 bottles of Smirnoff, currently on sale for $11.99.  Got 10% off for buying 6 or more (9.60).  Used four of the $5/2 coupons from the 11/13 rp.  So let’s see:  $20 + 9.60 takes you down to $72.58.  We’ll immediately submit the receipt and $50 rebate form; that leaves us paying $22.58 for eight bottles of Smirnoff … $2.82375 each.  Told customer service I was gonna sell it out of my trunk in their parking lot. They were astounded when a pretty much non-drinker buys so much alcohol in one afternoon!.

PITA found a coupon for FREE bagged salad and FREE two pounds of bananas; got organics for both.  OOP was .01 (and I was tempted to put it on a Jewel gift card, but figured I’d let Jewel get some cash out of me).

Jewel – Butterball roasts

Jewel has the frozen Butterball turkey breast roasts on sale for $10.99 (normally $14.99), for a 3 pounder.  I used a $3.50 coupon (part of the giveaway) and ended up spending $7.58….but I have a couple of $2 turkey rebate forms from Menage a Trois wine that state “no wine purchase required” so I figure the roast will end up costing me less than $6 (including postage), or two bucks a pound.

Jewel and two Wags – it ain’t pretty…

Jewel was supposed to get my case of Dole Tropical Fruit jars last night – I know they were hoping I’d stick around yesterday and help unload the truck – staff budget cuts and all.  Sorry, Charlie, Goddess might have been born at night…but it wasn’t last night!  So the warehouse was out and I must return.

No Manishewitz broth (which is actually okay, ’cause they’ll order me a case or two) and when I checked out with my one lonely box of Morton kosher salt ($1.99 in today’s ad), it rang up at $2.99, which meant no cash changed hands.

Drove to 75th and Wherlli in Naperville to check out the new Walgreens and their Grand Opening Specials.  Well, actually, I just wanted to use the $3/$10 store coupons on the ad wrap-around.  Running  AZO and Estroven in one transaction would push you over the top and make this deal even sweeter.

Puhlease – this store had zip, zero, zilch of any Register Reward items.  The end caps were filled with stupid fluffy things; not one was devoted to any sale items.  The aisles (from what I saw) had lots of spaces where RR items would be, if they had any RR items in stock.  The busiest place in the store was the photo counter…where people were lined up to get refunds.  And while he was nice, the Asst Mgr clearly had no idea what the RR items were.  My verdict – FAIL!  Not worth another trip.

Stopped back at the friendly Lisle Wags and took six Estroven and six AZO creams.  You have two ways to run this:  Buy one of each, use the two coupons and pay out about $10+ or buy one AZO with coupon and use the $5 RR with a filler to buy the Estroven.  I’m tired of fillers, so just took the hit.  It’s not like I won’t find something to buy with them!

Manishewitz broth sale and coupon

Rachel emailed me about this great sale on Manishewitz broth at Jewel:  $1.50 a carton.  Go to the Manishewitz site and print out a $1 coupon for .50 broth.  Last year we took all the clearance clearance from the warehouse – – this stuff is possibly the best broth I’ve ever used.

Walmart, Dominicks and Jewel

and just in that order…Wanted to make certain that Walmart didn’t carry the trial size packs of Crest Whitening strips (the $10 coupon in the November P&G would make for some serious overage).  Nada.  Left with four cheese sticks and two Idahoan potato packs which added .66 to my gift card.

Dominicks was to pick up more .99 eggs, four more Hillshire sausages and six more Safeway bacon – at 2.99 a pound, it’s a great stock-up price (especially if you’ve been seeing the heights to which bacon prices aspire).  PITA picked up “a few” of the October fresh ideas magazine with the $2 Fresh Express 9 oz spinach coupons…which we then drove over and used at

Jewel, where I picked up six of the spinach, two hamburger buns and a Cabot cheese.  I used a $1 Cabot coupon from the Jewel Holiday Entertaining booklet; since it was on sale for $3.69, it came down to $2.69.  Paid $5.47 (from my trusty Jewel gift card) and got seven losing game tickets.  I haven’t check them yet, but somehow I just know…

Note here from the Goddess:  The $2 spinach coupons in the fresh ideas magazine say “redeemable only at Safeway Stores.”  Jewel-Osco policy allows stores to accept these coupons as long as they state “Manufacturer coupon” on them, which these coupons do.  If you’d like a copy of the current Jewel-Osco coupon policy, please print out this jewelosco_couponpolicy_sept2011, which I completely and shamelessly stole from Jill Cataldo.
