Another lead glass recall

Why am I turning into an unofficial recall site?  Maybe because I’m pissed that almost every recall of products containing lead have one thing in common:  made in China.  Read today’s Trib article here.  While there are lead limits for children products, by categorizing character glasses as adult collectibles, they avoid those pesky government regulations, since adult glasses have no limit (and we all know how much adults just love their superman and wizard of oz glasses).  Smart, if swarmy.  My advice:  avoid Chinese-made products as much as possible.

Jewel updates

Not gonna take a picture of Scotts toilet paper and the Pure Protein bars, even if it was all free – boring

Make sure you check with your local Jewel before heading out to pick up the BOGO DS games – not all stores are carrying them.  My store did not receive any games and may or may not get them during the sale period; I’ll check other locations later today and post back.  Also did not have any of the Halloween pillsbury tube cookies which other stores have been clearancing out (and which tie in beautifully with the $1/2 blinkies above them and the $3 cat.

Back from scavenging tour…crap on a stick!  Went to the 24 hr Jewel/Osco in Wheaton to see about the DS or wii games and the Pillsbury clearance cookies.  Steerike 3 and you’re out.  Seriously, no games whatsoever (old computer games which you see everywhere), no cookies.  but there were winetags everywhere…

Thank you for flying Pervy Airlines – we’ve got your junk covered

WASHINGTON (AP) — The head of the Transportation Security Administration is acknowledging that the new pat-downs are more invasive than what travelers were used to in the past. [unless they’re used to naked Twister or Hide the Weinie party games]

TSA administrator John Pistole says he has received the new pat-down, as has his boss, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

Some travelers complain that the new inspections target sensitive body areas. Pistole says he understands those privacy concerns, but says the government must provide the best possible security for air travelers. [so the way to catch the next shoe/foot bomber is to have a TSA toe-sucker]

Pistole was testifying before a Senate committee about TSA policies and procedures. The hearing was scheduled before the recent outrage about airport security pat-downs.

So maybe normal people should just start taking trains and let the pervs fly all they want.  Can you imagine the delight of the creepy old guy on Family Guy?  He’d be taking short hops all around the country for quick gropes.

Bolingbrook teen in fatal crash

I’m posting this ’cause it bothers me on so many levels…

By now I sure you’ve all heard/read about the 17 year old Bolingbrook teen who drove his SUV into an apartment in the middle of the night and killed the woman sleeping in her bed [if you’ve been under a rock, click here].  There are so many things wrong with this story that I wouldn’t even know how to list them:  teen is in this country illegally, but works part-time; doesn’t attend high school; doesn’t speak English; has no drivers license; had a blood alcohol level of .204.  If the car is his, how did a 17 year old come up with the cashola to buy this -I can’t even imagine a company loaning money to a 17 year old illegal who works part time (unless it’s a sub-prime car loan company).  And if the car wasn’t his, well, then, who loans a car to an unlicensed driver?  ’cause let’s face it, if you’re close enough to a person to loan out your car, you’re close enough to know the SOB doesn’t have a license.  Obviously there are even more things to get upset about but let’s start with those.

Where did he get the booze?  An alcohol level that high and he’s still able to walk, talk and drive?  Doesn’t that mean he drinks frequently and has a higher tolerance?  One glass of wine and I start yawning, so I’m maybe not the person to ask, but still… Isn’t there a curfew for those under 18?  And someone commented that you have to have a licensed driver with you if you’ve been driving less than a year, but if he never bothered with the license in the first place, that one’s out the window!

And his parents?  Don’t they have some responsibility for this?  Oh, wait, if he’s illegal, then his mother is possibly also illegal – but wait, she works for a hotel.  And some news articles mention the mother’s boyfriend.  So many questions, so few answers…

Duggars – Next Gen

OK, the newest big news from the TLC reality/whore channel is that the married son and his wife are having their second child after suffering a miscarriage last summer; their first child turned one last month.  Oh, and they also plan to leave the number of children they have in God’s hand…although if stuff stayed in the hand we wouldn’t be reading so much about the Duggars...just sayin’

They are part of the Quiverfull movement, where you are expected to produce as many litters children as possible so the Christians can overwhelm the heathen by sheer numbers. pah…

Meijer today

Checked out the non-stock of Smart Balance milk – then picked up two 12-count rain checks.  If they tell you that the default is 6, tell ’em you want two then.  They actually have these printed out under the counter, but for some reason are loathe to part with them.  I had a call from a reader who was told that she could only have one rain check for 2 and that the reader’s boyfriend could not have one “because they obviously came together!”  God grant me the serenity  to accept the things I cannot change and  the strength to not bitch slap that broad into tomorrow. amen

At Meijer today the cs guy said that they were out “because we’re obviously giving it away.”  I did mention a little thing like a $2 mfr coupon, but you cain’t fix stupid.

There is a national catalina running with Kellogg’s Pop Tarts:  buy 3 get 2.00; buy 4 get 3.00; buy 5 or more get 4.00 from 11/6 to 11/28.  There is a $1/3 coupon on the Kellogg’s site (you have to register for all their coupons) so printing two would bring you down to $4/6, or .66666 each box.  I’ve read that it’s a mfr catalina.

You’ll be pleased to know that the Bestlife Buttery Spread is back in stock and back down to .99 – unfortunately the $1 coupon has expired.  Coincidence?  I think not.  There is a current .50 coupon in 10/17 s (exp. 12/16) if you need it.  I, on the other hand, am busy stocking the Meijer warehouses…

Target couponing update

Did you catch the Target update on the 5 o’clock news on Channel 2?  Briefly summarized last week’s story (hello, Rachel!) and presented the news that Target had emailed new directions for all cashiers and employees regarding coupon usage.  The section of that email that required all Target cashiers to ask each and every customer if they had coupons was apparently lost, since each and every customer exiting the store, when queried by CBS’s Dorothy Tucker, replied that they hadn’t been asked.

A breaking Trib story quotes Jill Cataldo, “coupon expert,” as having posted the Target email and policy change today, along with other unnamed sites.  I find this puzzling, since Jill was not mentioned in either the original Channel 2 broadcast nor in this follow-up today, and in point of fact, a slew of other sites (including this one) had posted the email days earlier.  Oh, well, chalk it up to disappointment that I do not yet have 40,000 believers chanting my name.

And the picture?  Obviously, one of Target’s corporate attorneys…

Pet peeve time

Let’s face it, we all have pet peeves, and usually add more and more to our plate.  But is it our fault?  Other than the deny all responsibility for any of our actions faction, why must we keep being bombarded with print images of sometimes disturbing things (think children needing surgeries) and others designed to piss me off.  well, that last one was sure a shocker, right?

Now here’s one I can’t seem to get away from…the woman in the Life Alert ads who lives alone through the grace of Life Alert (and god, I would imagine).  I sit surrounded by dogs, cats, puppies and cases of Libby’s vegetables and think “Damn, I want that life!”  Woman looks happy, well-rested, years younger than me and can probably go for days without hearing “come clean up the crap – one of your puppies shit in the living room” or variations on this theme…

Got any pet peeves of your own.  Well, of course you do!  Send ’em on in…

The rat-bastards are gaining!

Little bit of sunshine in the Trib today about how the credit card companies are sneaking around the latest laws meant to curtail such practices.  Maybe their tag lines should read:  Never give a sucker an even break…

CVS vote, please

You all know by now how I feel about CVS – mostly pah!  Got a call from someone who was turned down today while trying to use the P&G $10 coupon on the Oral B rain check.  You know, those toothbrushes that CVS advertised on sale in SEPTEMBER and have only now gotten in stock…yeah, six weeks…

Thought it might be fun to run a sticky post with comments on the best and worst of the CVS locations – rather like the Dominick ones you see all over.  In this case, give us the location and just what caused you to form your opinion – good and/or bad.

me first, me first!  Good The CVS (near Mashupmom) at Roosevelt and Meyers (Fairview).  It’s clean, the people are friendly and it seems to occasionally have stock.  Its manager told me that they would accept the expired P&G coupons on the Oral Bs.

CVS at Naper and Ogden (in Naperville).  Good Store opened last week with a complete lack of fanfare.  In fact, I wanted to call the store a couple of days ago and not only are they not listed on the corporate website, corporate had no info whatsoever about them when I called.  just a little too low key, wouldn’t you say? Anyway, the asst. mgr assured me that they would accept my expired P&G Oral B coupon and the ecbs that expired 11/04 and which I had planned on using to buy the damned toothbrush.  and i’ve got his name, so he can’t hide!

CVS on Roosevelt and Blanchard (in Wheaton) Bad Nasty, nothing in stock and management the result of in-breeding.
