cheap TWIX bars @ Jewel!

Newest coupon today is the TWIX bar one – use it at Jewel this week for 25¢ candy bars! The $2 Glade scent holders will be 2/$5 with a $2 RR at Walgreens starting tomorrow – $1 MM!  Use your REACH RR plus a school item or Arizona tea (50¢ with in-ad coupon) for fillers and extend those RRs another week. And BOGO pop coupons are always good!

$0.50 off 2 TWIX Cookie Bars - Singles or 4-To-Go
BOGO Free Dr Pepper TEN, 2-liter bottle
$2.00 off any Glade Decor Scents holder

What’s for dinner – rotisserie chicken (today, tomorrow, Saturday…)

photo.JPG

Hey, it’s $6.99 less that beautiful $3 coupon in the Jewel booklet – how could you not love it!  I picked up two of these and will have plenty of leftovers for work lunch for DH and tacos tomorrow.  Cooked another batch of my clearance Jasmine rice with the clearance already-cooked wild rice tossed in and some leftover pea pods.

The rotisserie chicken is going to be a huge seller at the deli counter – I strongly recommend calling ahead and having them set aside one or two for you, especially if you’re looking for one of the less-popular varieties (the rosemary, no salt and BBQ, oddly enough, aren’t popular).

HE @ Jewel – what works, what doesn’t

This week’s Osco deal is $2 HE shampoos and conditioners.  There are three potentially useful coupons in the 7/28 P&G insert – I played around with every possible combination as follows, but ymmv, depending on the number of inserts you have:

• Buy 3 HE shampoos and 3 HE conditioners.  Use the $5/3 and 3 BOGO coupons.  Scanning the $5 first (I tried it both ways) allows you to use two of BOGOs, although the amounts drop drastically, leaving you paying way more than you would without both coupons!

• Buy 3 HE shampoos and 1 HE conditioner.  Use the $5/3 and 1 BOGO coupon. You end up paying $2 and high tax.

• Using the $1 Clairol product on a HE shampoo and then the BOGO for the conditioner results in $1 plus high tax for two products.

• Buying 3 HE products and paying with the $5/3 Clairol coupon gives you 3 bottles for $1 plus high tax, so one bottle better than the preceding transaction.

So the last coupon is the only one I’d recommend – use the shampoo in your liquid hand soap dispensers – – is there really a difference?

Jewel (clearance) shopping

Check those clearance carts and shelves at Jewel because they are blowing out Shoppers Value!  Yeah, most of it isn’t worth a cup of warm spit, but I just cleaned up on rice and beans, among other things.  Way too much to photo, so here’s the list:

2 cans LaChoy bean sprouts @ 25¢ each
6 four-pound bags of Shoppers Value pinto beans @ $1 each
6 two-pound bags of Wild Harvest Jasmine rice @ $2 each
4 five-pound bags of Shoppers Value white rice @ $1.25 each
3 boxes of Jamaican chicken empanadas (frozen) @ $1.50 each
1 36 oz box of Stockman & Dakota pub burgers with blue cheese for $3.50
6 packets of 10.5 oz Fall River cooked wild rice @ $1.25 each
1 L’Oreal Excellence @ $2 – I’ll return with the $2 coupon and receipt
1 FF Dino Bites 24 oz for $1.50
1 chicken teriyaki for 25¢ (in with the fish)

So my OOP was $44, (said I saved $85, but it’s really more) but I’ll get back $2 for the L’Oreal.  Think I’ll head back and grab the remaining Shoppers Value rice – 5 pounds for $1.25 can’t be beat, especially when each batch in the cooker uses about 1½ pounds.

Edit – some thoughts on the 7/28 Jewel ad

Here’s a printable that just appeared!  Use it on the $1.50 sale to get a 12 oz bag of Fisher peanuts in the shell for only 50¢.  Now that’s a deal!
$1.00 off (1) Fisher Snack item 4 oz. or larger

A pretty dismal ad – the Buy 10 save items either have no coupons available or the values are pitiful.  Couple of Osco side items, though, since we have new coupons:  The Herbal Essence shampoos and conditioners are 2/$4.  Grab multiples and use both the $5/3 and BOGO shampoo/styling product coupons for very cheap hair care.  If you still have the $5/2 Clairol products coupon, use it for overage before it expires – TOMORROW!   I used up my $5/2 coupons, but I might use the combo coupons to grab a few HE products for donations.

Osco’s also having a Nature’s Bounty BOGO sale (also at CVS).  There’s a $2 coupon in the 7/28 r2, but if you get the $2 store coupon from the Magic Coupon Machine to stack, you’re better off running the deal there…especially if you’re gonna be picking up Skippy anyway!

If you prefer Nature Made brand, Osco’s also got a BOGO running on them.  Use the $2 coupon from 7/28 S1 and the cheapies should be almost free.  Again, I might pick up those cheap ones for donation purposes.

If you need more coupons, here’s the printables list once again:

$2.00 off 1 Nature’s Bounty Vitamin or Supplement
$2.00 off Nature’s Bounty Optimal Solutions
$0.55 off any one SKIPPY peanut butter product
$1.75 off Any 2 Nature Made Vitamins
$2.25 off Any One Nature Made Vitamelt

Jewel clearance shopping

Jewel must have a ton of that frozen fish because the freezer endcap was restocked with flounder, pollock, a few salmon and tilapia – all at 50¢ each.  Sorry, but as long as I have room in my freezer, I’m gonna be picking up $2/lb salmon!

Mighty Dog cans were on the clearance cart for 25¢ – use the $1.75 off 12 cans in the 6/30 rp for even cheaper cans!  They had a ton of Hamburger Helper for 50¢, but the coupons are pathetic and I won’t buy it for real money.  I like the rice mixes and the hash browns because I can use them without the seasoning packets (the “cheese” in the hash browns is nasty).

Lots of Thai and Simply Asian clearance bowls, but again, no coupons so I’ll pass, although they sound appealing and I’ll probably end up dropping back in…

Check your Jewel freezer endcaps

photo.JPGI stopped in at Jewel for a loaf of bread (made a huge batch of tuna salad) and PITA and I just happened to walk by the freezer endcaps – entire shelf of Shoppers Value frozen fish! We’re talking salmon, flounder and pollock, all for 50¢ a 4 oz vacuum-sealed package.  That’s $2 a pound for salmon!  Naturally I took all the salmon, lots of the flounder and I’ll hit them back up tomorrow for more.  Check you own stores ’cause if there’s a cheaper stock-up price for frozen fish at present, I don’t know about it.  We’ll use these for fish tacos, for salmon sautéed in butter with capers, for salmon sautéed in butter with smoked paprika…lots of possibilities.

Chapstick & lube – the shopping trip you don’t write home about

photo.JPGNot going to even bother with the pictures – suffice to say that I was all prepared for serious overage at Jewel with the Chapstick $1.50 peelie and nimble fingers:  But it was not to be.  The coupon beeped and said something along the lines of coupon value more than item.  Cashier hit okay and the coupon rang at $1.  Since this is an über-friendly store, coupon-wise, I would not recommend running this in the hopes of getting anything more than free Chapstick.

I had more luck at Walgreens with the $7.99 Durex lube.  Since I wanted to pay with points and the next threshold was 10,000, I needed a few items per transaction to close the $2 gap.   I picked up lots more toilet paper and paper towels, a gallon of milk and a candy bar (I was hungry, okay?  And it was the Cadbury fruit & nut bar – so almost a health food!).  Haven’t seen any re-nu since Saturday, but will check around later in the week after the stores are resupplied. Luckily I can run all the solution in one transaction.

Campbell’s natural soup cat & Jewel sale

photo.JPGIf you’re Jonesing for soup (as is or as a cooking ingredient) here’s catalina that ties in with Jewel’s soup sale of 4/$5:  Buy any Campbell’s 100% Natural soup between 6/17/13-7/14/13 and get an OYNO.  Buy 2 get $1;  Buy 3 get $1.50;  Buy 4 get $2.  No coupons out now or in the 6/30 inserts, but IPs are always popping up.

What I really love here is the name:  Natural…so what god-awful gloop were we eating before?

Jewel to drop loyalty card (Chgo Trib) – old news to us

chi-jewel-preferred-card-20130628-002“Late-breaking” news in today’s Chicago Tribune alerts readers to the fact that Cerberus Capital Management, the new owner of Jewel, Shaws, Albertson’s and Acme, has eliminated the loyalty card requirement for sale prices.  Jewel stores changed over the past week and the other chains are converting now.  Some Jewels have $100 gift card raffles for people who turn in their now-dead cards.  The reasoning behind the change is actually quite interesting.  Read the entire article here.
