you can never have too much ice cream…

photo.JPG
When you’re only paying a buck a box for Klondike bars, that is! This week Jewel has a whole assortment of ice cream novelty bars on sale 2/$6 with an instant $4 savings when you buy four. Buy 12 and use four of the $3/3 coupons from the 7/28 rp1 which expire today.  You’ll be paying 12x$ 3 = $36 less $12 instant savings less $12 from coupons or $12 for all 12 boxes.

If you don’t have coupons, go ahead and buy the bars and send me an email – I have LOTS of that insert and you can always go back and post-redeem with the receipt, but you can’t buy them with an expired coupon.

Jewel’s Rachael Ray dinnerware promo

973588While everything about this Rachael Ray dinnerware promotion is being kept close to the vest, here’s what I’ve been able to find out so far. The picture isn’t of the actual items, but it’s very, very similar (that I remember!).  Promotion items include a soup/cereal bowl, mug, dinner plate and salad plate (4 items).  Promotion is scheduled to begin September 4th and go through the end of December.  The timing part is okay.

You earn a stamp for every $10 in purchases.  Fill the entire Stamp Saver booklet and get 6 free items.  For 20 stamps you get 1 free item.  For 10 stamps you get to purchase 1 item for only $2.99 (their wording, not mine!)

The rub:  Under Terms & Conditions, slick old #2 states:  Coupons are not included for purposes of calculating the total spending.

Yeah, they can program the cash registers to calculate the amount excluding coupons and show that on the bottom of the receipt, but they can’t correct the software glitch that causes coupons to automatically adjust down on a sale item or allow the second coupon on a BOGO sale to actually record a value!  Sure, Target, I mean Jewel, of course we believe you…

Jewel for shave gel…

photo.JPGThis is a “just for giggles” post because I don’t recommend running around buying little cans of shave gel for the overage – at some point you have to say “this is nuts.”  Remember, most stores won’t have very many cans and unless you have a free gas supply, not worth it.  I prefer the larger sizes, even with less overage, because this is strictly a donation item – might as well give as much as possible.

I picked up 9 cans of the Gillette foamy shave gel, two quarts of half & half and more chips (we seem to be out of sync with our guac consumption).  Paid $1.54 OOP —  58¢ was the subtotal.  And here’s the fun fact:  I paid using a P&G gift card!

PITA found a $1 OYNO, which wasn’t as good as yesterday, when she found a $3 one!  Go, PITA!

more Jewel “shopping”

photo.JPGFruttare bars have a few discontinued flavors at the Lisle Jewel – one is Lime, which we love!  Even att $2.28, it’s too pricey; luckily we had a couple of cats for $1.50 and $1.25 to help ease the pain (there are lots and lots of $1 blinkies out there, too).  Picked up 6 cans of Gillette – the overage basically paid for the tortillas.  OOP was $2.74.  ouch

Stopped at Dunkin Donute for a couple of orders of those little Dunkin Dogs.  Not bad at all and it helped to ease the hunger pangs on the trip home.

Jewel clearance cart & MM shave gel

Clearance cart at Jewel had Wild Harvest diced tomatoes for 40¢ a can – I took the case at Lisle, but check your local store.  I also saw boxes of Equal (115 packets), stevia and generic sweet n low.  Ghiradelli dark chocolate was clearanced out at $1.25.

imagesThe 8/11 rp has a $6/3 Gillette products – the coupon picture includes one of the shave gels.  That’s all fine and good, but if you use the coupon on the $1.88 shave cans, you’ll have a slight moneymaker.  The $1.88 is the normal shelf price, so no need to rush for the sale.  Comes in regular, menthol and sensitive skin.  Coupon has that limit 4 per household per day wording…if that concerns you.

Jewel for cheap organic milk

Why bother with a picture?  Picked up a gallon of Wild Harvest milk on sale for $5.49, along with 15 bottles of Wet n Wild nail polish.  Paid with the $5/$20 Wags store cat and 15 $1 W&W coupons.  OOP was $1.43, most of which was high tax on the nail polish.  I have no need for the polish (expiration on coupon is tomorrow), but it will make a very nice donation item.  I stopped at Walgreens, bought a .19 ruler and got no cat – no more rulers in my future!

Finally, free food returns to Jewel!

photo.JPGRight at this very moment, the insane cat machine at Walgreens is spitting out $5/$20 on EVERY order!  I picked up some rulers for 19¢ with in-ad coupon, paying 20¢ with high tax on each separate transaction.  It’s a store coupon and Jewel’s official coupon policy (as restated here on their Facebook page) allows their use – – it’s $4.80 worth of FREE GROCERIES!

Some Walgreens have even cheaper items, but I’m in the high rent district and have to make due with 20¢!

I would suggest grabbing lots of FREE items (with coupons) to get up to $20 in groceries and then use the $5 catalina for the overage items.  Osco has lots of 99¢ wet n wild products (nail polish, eye liner, lipstick) on which you can use either the $1 or $2/3 coupons in the 7/28 rp1.  Or you could stock up on free BIC pens using the $1 coupon from 8/04 S.  And if you use coupons on overage items, well, that’s just more overage!  I need more cosmetics like I need another flood, but there are lots of organizations that drool over this stuff – and I’m not talking about Boys Town, either…

$1 Sparkle coupon – use @ Jewel or CVS

Look for Sparkle 2-ply Paper Towels with Thirst Pockets in white and a variety of prints. Sparkle paper towels soak up spills big and small.  Soak up the Savings with this $1 coupon!  This is a link to Georgia-Pacific and requires you to check the box allowing them to send promotional emails and other communications.

CVS has the 8-pack Sparkle paper towels for $5 (limit 4) this week – starting tomorrow, Jewel will have the 8-pack regular rolls or 6 pack jumbo rolls for $4.99.  Use the above coupon or the 50¢ coupon in the July AY or the 50¢ in the 7/28 rp1.

everything is free shopping

Lots of stores have BIC pens on sale this week, but I’m fond of overage, so I picked Jewel, with their 88¢ price stacked up against the $1 coupon in today’s 8/4 S.  Remember, it’s their official coupon policy to apply the overage to other cart items, so make sure you have something else – I’ve been stocking up on those Lightlife burgers so a little something to bring down the clearance cost even further was welcome.

Walgreens has an in-ad coupon for Gain dish detergent for 89¢ – the $2/2 coupon in 7/14 rp works beautifully here, with no beeps.  It helps that the bottle says detergent (in Spanish) on the front label.  And I’ll admit that the lavender Gain is my favorite dish soap, given the fact that I hate cleaning.  Again, you’ll have to throw something in the cart to eat up the slight overage on each bottle – I chose death by chocolate…

not quite vegan burgers

photo.JPGI posted a few weeks ago about buying up all the Lightlife black bean burgers for a buck a pack at Dollar Tree – well, now Jewel has the entire line clearanced out at $1.98 (yeah, yeah, I know – twice as much!).  Picked up six packs of these grill ‘n burgers last night to try – PITA and friend ate two packs!  I don’t recommend grilling any of their products because they dry out and your dogs will be enjoying them, not you.  We lightly fried these in oil and served on toasted English muffins with a dollop of EE horseradish brown mustard (all 187 bottles made it through the flood) and a slice of the Kraft cheese from Dominicks.  Very, very, very tasty and we’re going back to grab the rest.

Please keep an eye out for these and the black bean burgers in your Jewel’s freezer section and/or Dollar Tree.  don’t bother checking stores by me…
