Kung Hei Fat Choy: Eat like a Horse today – FREE @ Panda Express

UntitledIt’s that time of the year again – free food from Panda Express to celebrate Chinese New Year. This year is the Year of the Horse and a return to Firecracker Chicken Breast. This was the freebie two years ago and it’s fantastic, if a trifle spicy for some (not us!).

There’s a limit of one coupon per person per day per location so plan your dinner route accordingly; put your rice steamer on and you’ll have plenty of good eating when you return.

free and cheap @ Jewel

Jewel has coupons on their website – but the only ones I like are the EE ones:  $1 off EE refrigerated rolls, $1 off EE brown sugar and 75¢ off EE french-fried onions (the onions are nutzy priced at $2.69 a large container).  Jewel has EE brown sugar and powdered sugar on sale for $1.39 and their EE biscuits are regularly 99¢.  However, that’s not quite good enough for us, right?  Use the BOGO EE coupons from 11/17 rp and get two tubes of rolls for the price of FREE and two bags of sugar for 39¢.  That’s the kind of shopping I like to do.

Also picked up a few of the Tombstone pizzas on sale 2/$7 instead of the $7 each they were last week.  Really?  The catalina you got wasn’t that good to make up the difference in price.  I used the $1 printables from last week (hit print limit).

PSA: free fruit & bodacious dumpsters

downloadYes, there is actually a website that identifies locations around the world where you can glean free fruits and vegetables:  fallingfruit.org – mapping the urban harvest!  It also identifies public water wells and – – trash bins and dumpsters with excess food waste.  alrightly then!

You click on the number and the map becomes more and more local – I did not know that there were black walnut trees in Downers Grove with nuts free for the taking!  Somebody figure out how to locate the best dumpsters, please.  This is intriguing!

Finally, free food returns to Jewel!

photo.JPGRight at this very moment, the insane cat machine at Walgreens is spitting out $5/$20 on EVERY order!  I picked up some rulers for 19¢ with in-ad coupon, paying 20¢ with high tax on each separate transaction.  It’s a store coupon and Jewel’s official coupon policy (as restated here on their Facebook page) allows their use – – it’s $4.80 worth of FREE GROCERIES!

Some Walgreens have even cheaper items, but I’m in the high rent district and have to make due with 20¢!

I would suggest grabbing lots of FREE items (with coupons) to get up to $20 in groceries and then use the $5 catalina for the overage items.  Osco has lots of 99¢ wet n wild products (nail polish, eye liner, lipstick) on which you can use either the $1 or $2/3 coupons in the 7/28 rp1.  Or you could stock up on free BIC pens using the $1 coupon from 8/04 S.  And if you use coupons on overage items, well, that’s just more overage!  I need more cosmetics like I need another flood, but there are lots of organizations that drool over this stuff – and I’m not talking about Boys Town, either…
