there are no deals & other urban legends – – – P&G update!

photo.JPGHigh tax and subtotal equaled about $2 OOP.  The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser 2 pk EXTRA POWER is working and there’s that wonderful, beautiful B2G1 coupon in the same 9/1 P&G insert!  Note that no other Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is working for this promotion – I tried them all.  I also used the B2G1 Febreze coupon with the $1 coupon for the whatever that sleep thing was!  This gave me some very nice overage and, since the deal stacks so high, the ability to really make out!

FYI, Lisle Jewel is taking special orders on all P&G products.  You know the drill at this store:  You must pay for special orders when placed, not when you pick them up.  But since you are able to stack this at least 21+ high, you won’t be tying up any registers for very long!  And if you don’t yet have coupons, you can buy your stuffs and post-redeem.

Jewel P&G – what works, what doesn’t – 21+ stack

The following transactions were run between 10 – 10:15, so it’s possible that other UPCs have now been entered into the system – we can only hope!  Also, except for the Puffs, I only tried one or two of the items, not all the varieties/scents shown in the ad and marked with shelf tags.  Without further ado:

Tide 150 oz.  – NO

Bounty 12 ct  NO

Charmin bath tissue – NO

Puffs, all varieties – YES.  Note that both the ones in the ad (124-180 ct) and the smaller size (96 ct) Puffs Basic are on sale for $1.79.  In fact, they look so much alike that I accidentally grabbed the wrong ones at first!  Be certain you’re grabbing the larger boxes – oh, and there aren’t any cubes as part of this promo, so don’t even try them!

Dawn – YES

Cascade – NO

Bounce – NO

Downy liquid – NO

Downy Unstopables or Gain Scent Boosters – NO

Bounty Napkins 200 ct – YES

Swiffer Sweepers or Dusters – NO

Mr. Clean – YES

Iam dry cat food 5-5.7 lbs – NO

Iams dry dog food 16.3-17.5 lbs – NO

Febreze air fresheners both cans and cars – YES

The Lisle Jewel will be issuing $5 cash/credit for those transactions that don’t work, but my best advice is to only stop in for those items that are guaranteed to work and wait on the others…otherwise you’re gonna be for a long wait at customer service, kwim?

free shopping at CVS & Jewel

photo.JPGThe Magic Coupon Machine is printing $1 off P&G products – hey, Puffs is a P&G product, right? So use that coupon to buy the 88¢ boxes of Puffs!  Tide you over (Tide, get it?) until you can get to Jewel tomorrow for the deal that had better be working…

And back at the familiar confines of Jewel, PITA remembered the EE stevia 40 ct boxes were 50¢, so free after the $1/2EE coupons.  If you happen upon an odd number of any of the EE products, you can always grab a small can of EE veggies for 59¢.

possible deathblow to P&G Jewel deal?

photo.JPGOkay, here’s the picture of the ad once again so you can follow this in pictures.  Only shelf tags received for this sale (on Jewel items) were for the Bounty, Charmin and Tide – the hugely overpriced items in which we have no interest. Now I can see a store posting an ad disclaimer for one or two or even three items, but to claim that only three items are part of this instant savings?

In the past, when something similar (though not on as large a scale) has happened, Jewel has honored all those items pictured, but these are new owners.  However, because they are new owners, can they really afford the shitstorm of bad – and I mean really, really bad – publicity when first the media and then the Attorneys General start looking into bait and switch or whatever they’re calling it now.  Hey, everybody, come on in for these great deals.  Hey, everybody, 12 of the 15 products pictured in the ad really aren’t part of the deal; they’re just showing all the cool stuff that P&G manufactures…and even though we all approved this ad beforehand, we didn’t pay close attention to all those pesky details

yeah, right.

Jewel P&G instant sale – picture added

photo.JPGSince Jewel has now posted their weekly ad online, I feel comfortable with posting the ad pic of the P&G page for you to see.  We still can’t be certain that this deal will stack and if so, how high, but the wording implies that it will stack (doesn’t say “3 or more”).  One of the best things is that you will be taxed on these high-tax items after the instant savings!  While other items might be tagged throughout the Jewel side of the store, Osco people have said that only the items listed below will be tagged as part of this P&G promotion.

Just because I’ve grouped the following individually, remember that this is a mix and match sale.  Obviously the Mr. Clean will work best with 3, but on the others?  Pick and choose what you actually use!

Starting tomorrow, Jewel will have a P&G Buy 3 mix and match Save $5 Instantly promotion.  Normally these are pretty decent, but this one blows open the stockpile doors.  For example, you can buy:

3 boxes of Puffs (124-180 ct) select varieties for $1.79 Use 25¢ when you buy three boxes of Puffs from the 9/1 P&G insert.  Pay $5.12 and $5 comes off instantly – 12¢ for three boxes of Puffs!  Even without the coupon you’re only paying a quarter more!

Febreze Air Effects, car vent clips, stick & refresh or candles are $2.59. There are BOGO refresh coupons and $1 coupons in the 9/1 P&G.  You could end up with overage on this one on a two or more stack.

Mr. Clean all purpose cleaner 32-40 oz select varieties will be $2.79.  Use the B2G1 Free in the 9/1 P&G. Pay $5.58 and $5 comes off instantly – 58¢ for 3 bottles of Mr. Clean.  These are the 40 oz bigger bottles, too!

Cascade is $4.99, for those who just don’t like Finish.  Buy 3 for $14.97, use the 50¢ coupon in 9/1 P&G, pay $13.47 and $5 comes off instantly for $2.83 bottles/pouches of Cascade!  I’d recommend running Cascade deals with the Febreeze to use up that overage and bring the price of Cascade down to zip (or close to it).

Bounce is shown at $8.99, as is Downy for the same price.  Large (150 oz) Tides are $16.88, Bounty paper towels are $12.99 for 12 ct big rolls, Charmin bath tissue 24 ct double roll or 12 ct mega roll are $12.99.  pah.

Swiffer Sweepers or Dusters are $7.99 with a $1 coupon in 9/1 P&G.

Iams Dry cat food is $9.99 and Iam dry dog food is $16.99 – no coupons.

Very, very few items on the Osco side of the aisle:  Always Infinity and Tampax Pearl are $6.48 – a $1 coupon for each in the 9/1 P&G

Gillette Good News, Custom Plus or Daisy razors (10-13 ct) disposables are $6.88.  The 8/18 rp has a $3/1 Gillette disposable razor.  I don’t like to actually pay for razors, but if these are your favorites, you’ll pay $2.22 a pack.  Again, use the Febreeze overage to reduce the price.

Remember, even if you don’t like something like Puffs or Febreeze, these make incredible donations to your local food pantry – these aren’t items they normally get in any quantity.  and we know quantity…

fasten your seat belts – ’cause Jewel is taking off!

First of all, my server was down for quite some time (more bot attacks), or I would have posted this deal much sooner.  I’m not posting pictures, ’cause Jewel gets kinda pissy…  One thing nobody knows is if this deal will stack and if so, how high.  What does that mean?  Well, do we have to run these in individual sets of three items for the $5 or can they be purchased in multiples of three times however many we can do?  Obviously I’m in favor of door number two!  One of the best things is that you will be taxed on these high-tax items after the instant savings!

Also, just because I’ve grouped them individually, remember that this is a mix and match sale.  Obviously the Mr. Clean will work best with 3, but on the others?  Pick and choose what you actually use!

Anywho, starting next Wednesday, Jewel will have a P&G Buy 3 mix and match Save $5 Instantly promotion.  Normally these are pretty decent, but this one blows open the stockpile doors.  For example, you can buy:

3 boxes of Puffs (124-180 ct) select varieties for $1.79 Use 25¢ when you buy three boxes of Puffs in the 9/1 P&G insert.

You could theoretically end up with overage on this one.

Mr. Clean all purpose cleaner 32-40 oz select varieties will be $2.79.  Use the B2G1 Free in the 9/1 P&G. Pay $5.58 and $5 comes off instantly – 58¢ for 3 bottles of Mr. Clean.  These are the bigger bottles, too!

Iams Dry cat food is $9.99 and Iam dry dog food is $16.99 – no coupons.

Dollar General for $1 hair color & Ultra for $2 charcoal

photo.JPG
Dollar General sells Clairol Balsam hair color for $3 – that’s their every day price, so no need to rush out. Use the $2 coupon from 8/11 rp and pay a buck. Wait until Saturday for the $5/$25 coupon or buy something and it will print on your receipt. I bought five boxes, used five $2 coupons and a $5/$25 printed on the receipt, good tomorrow. So I will return and buy nine boxes ($27) less $18 in coupons, less $5 store coupon and pay $4 plus tax. I like having a hair color reserve for PITA and her friends, so it’s worth paying the buck.

photo.JPGThen on to Ultra where we encountered what I thought (hoped) was a large breakfast sandwich, ’cause blogging builds up an appetite!  Alas, the box said “product enlarged for detail.”   How depressing.

photo.JPG

Then on to the stuff we really came for:  charcoal, Bayer aspirin and shaving gel/foam.   Kingsofrd charcoal is on sale for $6.48 with a $2 store coupon in the ad.  Stack with the $2 mfr coupon in the new Jewel ad.  There isn’t any limit, but you will need an Ultra store coupon for every bag purchased.  Weird.

Many varieties of Bayer were on sale for $1.88, so I grabbed 16 boxes and paid with a $2 expired coupon.  Unfortunately, they reduced each and every one by .12.  sigh  The Gillette shaving creams are also on sale for $1.88, so I used the $6/3 coupon from 8/11 rp.  Customer service wanted to see the coupon because it was over $3.  At first they were going to reduce the value to match the items, but it turned out that two of the cans rang at $2.19 (really odd, because I bought 3 cans of each variety!), so that would have taken up the overage and they left the coupons as they were.  Remember that Ultra has a 12 like coupon limit unless the coupon indicates a lesser amount, as these Gillette ones do (4 like).

Some of the Food4Less locations have a huge display of Gillette shave gels/foams for $1.78 – even cheaper, but this is definitely a ymmv and you may or may not encounter resistance with the 4 like coupon wording.

My advice?  If at all possible, head over to Walmart for a price match.  I’ve been very pleased with all the employees of any of the Walmarts I’ve actually shopped (the store in Villa Park was a creephole and I walked out without buying anything).

Walking the Jewel EE aisles

I’ve done a bit of extra walking up and down the Jewel aisles in search of the best use of those $1/2 EE coupons from the 8/25 rp and found pretty much what I expected.

Lots of canned vegetables and beans for 69¢ to 89¢.  Yeah, I know frozen is better, but with only one large upright freezer (though my new refrigerator has a much larger freezer section, it’s not the same), I have to optimize my use of that space – canned works much better because there’s no urgency in use…and they do well in flood conditions.  don’t ask.  The EE version of Rotel is on sale for 69¢ – paying 19¢ a can after the coupon is a stock up price for me (they have both the mild and medium).

The single rolls of EE paper towels are $1 – the BIG rolls are $1.49.  120 ct  packs of casual napkins are 10/$10, which will probably be where I put my coupons.  EE bleach comes in three sizes:  gallon for over $3(!), the smaller one (is it even a 1/2 gallon?) is $1.69 and there’s this tiny little one for 99¢.

What EE products are you planning to stock up one?  There are probably lots of things I missed or didn’t consider a good deal – prove me wrong!  shame the guacamole isn’t EE…’cause I’m sure sucking down containers!

Nice $1/2 MorningStar Farms coupon – use at Jewel or Target

You can print and use at Jewel starting Wednesday, when MorningStar Farms products will be 2/$6 or check out Target, which is having the same 2/$6 sale, but where you can often find selected varieties on clearance.  Either way, PRINT ’cause there aren’t any other coupons available.

screen-shot-2013-08-26-at-10-08-50-pm

If you don’t see the coupon, change your zip code to 06607 and it should pop right up!  To change zip codes, click the “LOCAL” tab on top.  You’ll see your current zip code next to the categories button near the top left.  Click and put in 06607, then click the coupons tab.  Voila!  You’ve just moved to Bridgeport, CT!

Just so you know, I linked to that high-value $7/2 Triaminic coupon ’cause that’s an extremely high value!

Jewel – 8/28

Well, so far next week’s Jewel ad is a snoozer – lots of big noises, but nothing really happening – – not making any sex jokes, okay?  The EE butter is $2.49, so $2 a pound with the $1/2 EE coupon in 8/25 rp.  Same with the EE chunk or shredded cheese at 2/$4, so $2/$3.  Corn is 10/$1 which is the cheapest I think I’ve seen it, so that’s a stock up price since I now have a freezer…I’ll have to eat all the Klondike bars I just bought, but doable.  Oh, the sacrifices I make for family!  There’s a $2 mfr coupon in the Osco section for Kingsford Charcoal 15.7 or larger.  Seems like lately all the good coupons are mfr ones that we use elsewhere!

Weird combos, like Tropicana Orange Juice and Oberweiss chocolate milk 2/$6 or Simply Lemonade and Kraft Singles 2/$4 or Bailey’s coffee creamer and Sargento sliced cheese 2/$5.  Odd pairings in the frozen favorites part, too.  Cherry Garcia is 3/$10…yummmmm

Stupid teaser pictures that say BOGO or B1G2 without giving any price.   I’m talking about the pork baby back ribs B1G2 – without any notation of prices you can’t tell if it’s a good deal, a bad deal or a well, I need it anyway deal.  Same for the BOGO Jewel sausage, BOGO pork tenderloin, BOGO Philly-gourmet burgers and BOGO Cook’s bone-in ham steak.  Even if you know what the price is today, there’s no guarantee that price won’t change on Wednesday.
