Free groceries – nah, yah always pay tax

Photo1.jpg

Six bags of Seattle’s Best, two boxes of Purina One Beyond dry cat food and seven Schick razor packs. Coffee was $3.88, price-matched to the current Utra ad and used a $2 printable, cat food was $2.98 each and used $5.15 printable and seven razors were $1.97 and used the $3 coupons from 12/08 S for the overage. Total OOP was $1.57.

Side note: Cashier said that were was someone who came in a few days ago and did the same coffee thing. Looks at me and says “Oh, it was you!” Lady behind me laughed and said that they should pay ME to shop. I turned to her and said that Walmart policy allows that. She was shocked; said she was only making a joke.

Second side note:  I got one bag of No. 5 for you, Rachel.  I mean, I love you and all, but this is coffee we’re talking about!

Good price for Quaker oatmeal…

photo.JPGI really don’t like paying for groceries, but since I’m still rebuilding my stockpile, there are going to be times when the bullet gets bitten.  Ultra has these Quaker Real Medleys on sale for 78¢ each when you buy six.  Since Walmart will price match without quantity requirements, they should always be your first choice if you just don’t want or need 10 jars of Nutella (although why you wouldn’t want 10 jars of Nutella is beyond my ken).

So you price match the oatmeal to get the price from $1.99 down to 78¢, and use the $1/2 coupon from the 8/18 rp.  Then you use anything you can to get overage.  I had only a few of the BIC disposable razor $3 coupons and my Walmart is on the high-end of the pricing scale, but I was still able to get 20 cartons of oatmeal and 10 packs of razors for $4.86 – with the price match and coupon alone my cost would have been about $5.70.  ‘nuf said…

Jewel for shave gel…

photo.JPGThis is a “just for giggles” post because I don’t recommend running around buying little cans of shave gel for the overage – at some point you have to say “this is nuts.”  Remember, most stores won’t have very many cans and unless you have a free gas supply, not worth it.  I prefer the larger sizes, even with less overage, because this is strictly a donation item – might as well give as much as possible.

I picked up 9 cans of the Gillette foamy shave gel, two quarts of half & half and more chips (we seem to be out of sync with our guac consumption).  Paid $1.54 OOP —  58¢ was the subtotal.  And here’s the fun fact:  I paid using a P&G gift card!

PITA found a $1 OYNO, which wasn’t as good as yesterday, when she found a $3 one!  Go, PITA!
