Dollar General

Well, let’s what I can clear from Rachel’s DG…hmmm….10 Gain dryer sheets 40 ct; 3 lemon-scented bleach; 3 Mardi Gras napkins; 5 Dove Radiant Silk deodorant and 1 Dove deodorant twin-pak … drum roll please. $4.28damned high taxes!

Dollar General

Wanted to grab some of the free Gain fabric softener, so headed on over to poach in Rachel’s territory.  Only had 7 boxes of the sheets left on the shelf – so I took them – and none of the $1.85 Radiant Silk Dove deodorant.  what to do, what to do…  Since the sheets were $2.75 with a coupon value of $3, I decided to use the overage to buy a couple of the Dove twinpacks.  My numbers worked out fine (.25), but that damned high tax was $2.08.  So total OOP came to $2.33.  The Gain fabric sheets are the lavender scent and boy, do they smell purdy…

Dollar General – $1.10 OOP

Ran up to see how many free deodorants I could snag at that nice, clean Lombard Dollar General.  The Dove “Radiant Silk” sticks are $1.85 regular price and the 1/30 r1 has a $2/1 coupon.  Can you say overage?  I sure can.  Only had these five on the shelf, so I only needed some gum to eat up that overage.  Oh, and that total was mostly high tax.  grrr

If you don’t have a Dollar General near you, I’ve been told that Family Dollar carries this for the same $1.85 price and Rachel says that it’s at Ultra for $2 (pah, only free).

Dollar General

They’re again posting a $5/$25 coupon for purchases made on 1/22/2011, so if you’re heading over there anyway, print it out here.  There are quite a few other coupons on the same page, both mfr and store.  If  you see any sales/coupons match-ups, let us know.

Dollar General

I signed up to get Dollar General emails, etc. ’cause often I overlook the sales insert – big mistake, since I’ve gotten some great free stuff there in the past.  We all tend to focus on the big players and their sales when the truth is, deals are everywhere!  Some things to possibly pick up:  Quaker Oats $1 package of 5 envelopes of instant oatmeal would pair up nicely with a $1/1 (1/2 rp2).  They quite frequently have deals on Olay and Nivea products, making them free with the usual high-value coupons.  Click the link to their site to print out a $5/25 coupon good on this Saturday, the 8th, then register to get periodic emails with coupons and contests.

Dollar General

You should sign up for Dollar General emails.  They send out sales info and lately a $5/25 coupon has appeared at least once a week.  Not worth it for me since there isn’t a close one, but if you combine your free coupon deals (Frank’s red hot sauce, anyone?), it’s the whipped cream on your sweet deals…

Target and Dollar General redux

PITA and I had lunch today with MUM and her son, then off to DG for the last of the Libby’s vegetable coupons/sale. You know, the one where I bought 14 cases of vegetables for about .12 a can WHEN I COULD HAVE WAITED AND GOTTEN THEM FREE! ! Grrrrr! ahem. excuse me…  The problem with waiting on this stuff is that 1) I can’t predict the future and 2) I can’t predict the future. If you think .12 a can is a great price for Libby’s vegetables, then go for it and rejoice that you still have some coupons when it’s free. Any way, imagine an additional 30 cans in this picture, done in three sets: mgr said that the registers were limiting the purchases to 12 a transaction. So I did the three, moaning and groaning loudly over having to pay “.23!” “.06!”, etc. Her son thought this was hysterical and kept laughing – mine is inured to this, obviously. Glad I can still gladden the heart of one and embarrass the soul of another.

Then it was off to Target in search of the elusive clearance pj’s – have that Target coupon for $10 off three sleepwear items. What, you thought I would pay full price? Nada, zip, zero, so made me some happy scents with the Air Wick candles. I threw in the Secret and Olay bars because I needed the overage to get the 2 lavender-scented candles for cheap – the other scent was covered by the three $3 coupons I still had. If you clip out the $5 off Olay when you buy Secret deodorant from the 10/31 P&G, you can just get the trial size Secrets and a single bar (this Target only sold the doubles) of Olay and $5 will come off your order. Can we say $1.54 overage for each coupon? I know I can! Ended up spending 6.39 (of which $2.70 was tax), which I paid with one of my many razor gift cards.

Hurry to use these coupons before they expire on 11/30.

Dollar General

I’m not posting any DG deals or anything, just letting you know that DG has store coupons on their web site which stack with mfr ones for extra savings.  I suggest you click here for coupons and then sign up for weekly emails.  In addition to the world’s largest supply of Frank’s hot sauce in my basement, I’ve also picked up Gain dish soap, Olay body wash both for men and women and 8 o’clock coffee.  Almost forgot about the 20 cases of Libby’s vegetables.  All were either free or MMs (except for the small OOP on the veggies).

We’re so programmed to think in terms of food = grocery stores, that we miss some sweet deals in other places.  If any of you have favorite non-traditional places to pick up grocery and household items for free or cheap, post and let us know.  We’re all over the map here, so don’t worry about protecting your own private treasure store!

DG Veggies update

For those of you interested in picking up cases of the cheap Libby veggies at Dollar General in Lombard (on Roosevelt) – don’t bother with the road trip!  Took 11 more cases out of there this morning, leaving one or two cases to fill the shelves.  Do I feel guilty?

Tomorrow becomes today…

Whew!  Talk about whirlwind shopping.  First I hit Jewel for 16 of the Fuze drinks; this is high tax peeps, so plan on spending at least a few pennies.  Nobody needs to see a picture of 16 bottles!

Then off to Meijer, where even a peripatetic Meijer shopper like me knows to stop at the cs desk first to see what’s out of stock.  First day of a sale and they’re already out of the Smart Balance milk (got rain check for 6 – the limit) and the free w/ purchase Mrs. Ts spinach and feta Pierogies (got a rain check for 2 free).  I was able to get 8 of the Maxwell House coffees for .27 each, after the $1 cat.  Note that, like the previous sale, not all coffees are the same price.  The breakfast blend is the only one for $1.79, so get 2, use two coupons and a $1 MFR cat spits out, which I then used on the next transaction.  Obviously I ran this in multiple transactions, to get the $1 coffee cat each time, which leads into my next comment – I’m missing some receipts!  Guessing on the total for Meijers…$7.50?  Bananas are heavy, so maybe a quarter more.

Off to DG next.  Took 54 cans of Libby’s vegetables (mostly kernel corn), 2 Gain (all they had) and 5 Franks hot sauce for a total of $ 7.36.  PITA is busily clipping more  Libby coupons even as we speak; I’m going back with another 55 coupons (165 cans) for $19.25 plus low tax, so less than twenty bucks.  Note: DG’s registers won’t take off the entire $1/3, probably the same glitch as the Target ones.  However, DG is not out to cheat you and will break up the coupon value into .40/.40/.20 for each one.  Yes, a royal pain in the ass for both parties, but what else can you do?

Finally, an oddity:  you’ll be relieved to learn that this was not found in the grocery section…
