$25 MM at Jewel – do not run this

Update:  Rachel points out that it sounds like I am giving tacit consent to this deal – I am not.  I post this only because others have been running this and I didn’t want a reader to post it under Deals & Steals, where I might not have seen it readily.  So please don’t do this deal, because the few bucks you’ll make (and yes, in the general scheme of things, it’s only a few bucks) will be the last you’ll do at any coupon-friendly store.  And if they’re not coupon-friendly why are you shopping there?

Was out checking on this $25 moneymaker – I am not gonna run it, but check it out for yourselves.

The OneTouch Verio IQ blood meter originally had a shelf tag of $69+.  It’s currently ringing at $19.99, system-wide (your store may or may not have changed the tags).  Last week’s Smart Source (8/5) had a $45 coupon for this very meter.  You do the math.

I didn’t run this because:  1) the coupon states one per person (oh, hell, that wouldn’t have stopped me!) and 2) coupon wording says “coupon value not to exceed actual purchase price.”  And that, folks, was the deal-killer for me.  If I picked up a few (okay, maybe a 100 or so?) and Jewel somehow didn’t get reimbursed, I’d be SOL.

which is why I say run this at your risk.  funny, i never thought i had scruples…

Dannon breakfast blend coupon update

If you haven’t seen the Dannon Breakfast Blend yet in your local Jewel, it’s part of the latest reset, so ask the dairy person.  Lisle had two cases in the back waiting to be put on the shelf.  The full line is now available, so if your store hasn’t yet gone through the dairy reset, either ask for a special order or come on down to Lisle and stock up.

that is all.

making $$$ the old-fashioned way – rolling cats… – only $8 now?

Note: The Jewel fresh summertime fun booklet with the steak on the cover also contains a $1 mfr coupon for any size Truvia – this coupon does not expire until 8/15!
Read on CW that the Truvia catalina promotion that started 8/6 was running wonky:  Buy two of the 40 (dumbass!) 80 count boxes on sale for $5.99 each, use the $1 mfr coupon from 6/17 rp to bring your cost down to $11.98 less $2 or $9.98 plus low tax.  Pay and an $8 and a $4 OYNO print out.

Subsequent transactions you use the $8 cat and the two $1 mfr coupons to pay $2.19 OOP and get back that extra $4, so almost a $2 MM and you stock up on some very expensive natural sweetener.   You could also toss in something small like a pack of sale gum to use up the tiny overage and then use the $4 cat, too.  I don’t know how long this double cat will be printing, so I wouldn’t hold off for a few days or anything…

Jewel/Osco Reach cat

I did not see any Ivory soap pump bottles at all, but the Dial pumps were on sale for a buck, so I used two of them for each set of 4 kid’s toothbrushes I bought.  Do not procrastinate on this deal, as you only have until tomorrow (Friday) to get the sale price.  I had rain checks so it doesn’t matter to me, since the cat promo runs for another few weeks.

Second and subsequent transactions run high tax only (in my case it was .58) for four toothbrushes and two liquid soaps.

Reach $2 MM at Jewel/Osco goes through Friday

The Reach catalina currently running through September just got better.  Although the current ad says the sale ends today, both the shelf tags and the Osco mgr says it runs through the 10th.  Starting tomorrow there will be lots more choices for overage.   Buy four kid’s Reach toothbrushes.  Use the $1 coupons for both kid’s and ALL Reach toothbrushes from the 7/29 RP (Chicago had Skinny Cow cover) or the $1 IP here.  Pay $2 and get back $4.

Subsequent transactions involve rolling the $4 OYNO with the $4 in coupons plus $2 in overage.  Starting Thursday Jewel will have a nice selection of .88 items (like the ever-popular CBAD); Osco will have a sale on Ivory liquid pump soap (not in the ad, so don’t look).  The Ivory is a premium product and usually sells for much more.

Used my Jewel fuel card for the 1st time!

I had 90¢ expiring at the end of the month and figured I try out this thing.  First thing you have to know is that it is super easy.  Seriously, they have a thing of beauty here.

You pull up to the Shell pump and the first thing you see is the screen asking if you have a Jewel card!!!  Obviously you touch the YES key.  Then it asks you to slide your Jewel Fuel Rewards card, after which it tells you how much of a discount you have earned.  It then asks for a credit or debit card (this machine ain’t stupid!).  After you’ve swiped the cc or debit card, the price per gallon on all grade levels drops by your discount – it’s really neat!  In my case, the gas dropped to $2.49.  I was hoping to get to a penny a gallon gas to play with the big boys, but…

The main thing to remember is that you are getting up to 20 gallons of gas – you can’t carry the balance over to another fill-up.  In my case we had my car and my husband’s car right behind so I filled up and then handed the nozzle over to him.  You can also fill up a can or two for the lawn mower and/or generator if you want.

I wanted to pay using some of those $10 Shell gas cards we all “earned” at CVS, but I couldn’t figure out how to make it work, there was only one person working the station registers and a long line of people – I’ll use the cards on my NYC road trip.

Jewel – tacos muy barratos

Jewel is clearancing out most of their Mission line of products. This can make for some seriously cleap stuff when you use a coupon – – which is conveniently dispensed from the box on the shelf! woot!

The $1 manufacturer coupon covers taco kits and dipping sauces.  The pictured taco kits were marked $1.48, so 48¢ after the coupon.  The sauces were $1.78 and $1.98, so a buck less.  If you see the coupons, but a cleared shelf, take the coupons anyway – this deal can be found at all Jewels.

Kraft Fresh Takes are on sale 2/$5.  Use the 75¢ coupon from 7/22 s to get them down to $11.50.  You will get a $1 OYNO for each pair you buy – these six generated three $1 cats before I paid.  You know what that means, don’t you?  I grabbed them and used them to pay down the total.  So yeah, I’m going to hell…or on EC.

Those of you with Valli grocery stores will find $5 Supervalu coupons off Kraft cheese products in the current ad.  Since it’s a store coupon, you can stack it with the 75¢ mfr coupons.

Jewel for cheap cheese & cherries

Stopped at Jewel for cheap cherries and cheese. Thursday through Saturday they have cherries on sale for $1.49 a pound. Use this link to print two $1.00 off 1 lb or more store coupons. The cherries are pre-packaged in larger amounts, but there’s no law that says you can’t split them up into one pound sizes, right? In point of fact, we started out with TWO pages.  Coupon expires 7/20.

Also on the Thursday-Saturday sale is the Essential Everyday or Jewel chunk or shredded cheese at 3/$5.00. Print this $1.00/2 Jewel or Essential Everyday cheese store coupon two times. Remember, just because they say it’s 3/$5, doesn’t mean you have to buy that quantity.  This coupon also expires 7/20.    Note that these are store coupons and say limit one per transaction, so ymmv.  In other words, break it up into two transactions if you’re getting the stink eye.

Pepsi is on sale 24 pack, 2/$10.00 but you have to buy two.  Personally, I’d hit up Dominicks (like I posted previously) because you not only can use the Pepsi insert $2/2 in this Sunday’s paper, but they have their own $2 coupon in the ad!  AND they’ve automatically put the Jewel price on price match.   This is for those of you who have already gone through their 200 bottles of Pepsi Next.

Cheap food at Jewel

I’m stealing this from MUM because my paper didn’t come today (new carrier who has screwed up twice so far – his days are numbered – and it’s a very low number ifyoucatchmydrift).

The best by far is the Tyson grilled & ready seasoned steak or chicken strips fully cooked 6 oz $2.00. Print two $1.10 coupons here and two $1.10 coupons on the Target site (it’s a mfr coupon) for pouches under a buck!  Strangely enough, I’m eating a quesadilla leftover from last night made with the steak one, corn tortillas and mozzarella cheese.  Fast and easy and cheap – wait, were we talking about the dinner or the cook?  Note:  I was unable to print either coupon using Chrome, but Firefox printed fine.

Michelina’s entrees, all varieties, are 88¢.  Print $1.00/5 here.

Eggs are 99¢ a dozen, limit two (per card).  This is the kind of price (other than FREE store cats) I use for stock-ups.  And hot weather screams out for egg salad and deviled egg lunches.

Gift cards are generating a catalina for $5 off a fuel card when you buy $100 (July deal through the 27th) plus they are counting towards your fuel rewards (so 10¢ earned for every gift card),  Hmmmm, I wonder if these roll…just a thought…

Readers’ pix

Couple of pictures that caught my eye – you’ll appreciate them, too, I’m sure.

This reader read the Walmart post and ran out to stock up on bug stuff.  He says he’s placed an order for 200 more boxes of fly paper.  whoa…

Another reader just had to outdo me on the Shell cards at CVS – – to the tune of $550!  Way to go!  Combine these puppies with the Jewel fuel rewards and you can be driving on fumes for the next year.   Of course, the fact that gas jumped up 30¢ overnight is gonna impact us somewhat.
