PSA for any Jewel shopping

Just came back from Jewel where I picked up 12 more POM, eggs, yogurt, bread, etc.  Just stuff.  Paid $1.55 OOP.  The trick is to pick up any and all stray cats you find ’cause you never know when they’ll be useful.  If you are running the Ken’s dressing this week, you will easily hit a threshold where you can use one of those $ off $$ store cats which gives you some wiggle room with groceries.  I’ve been able to score free bakery bread, free EE wide pan bread, free Jewel veggies and eggs…lots of freebies with very little trouble – best thing is that the items you buy with a store catalina don’t trigger tax.

All the news that fits…

And speaking of great clearance deals, a reader sent over this picture — this is a hot one, folks, so don’t pass it up.  Buy a couple of hundred and you’ll have saved – – – almost two dollars.

Jewel clearance shopping

Okay, you win. Here's some of 'em

Just stopped in for some potatoes, onions and cabbage, honest!  Force of habit sent me to the clearance cart in the back of the store.  It was full of Clorox and HomeLife bleach; the Clorox also came in little tiny bottles.  Big bottles were a buck and the puny ones were .50¢.  I took them all.  so don’t bother with Lisle.  not kidding.  but not that clean.

Clorox is changing their packaging and labels – the new bottles will be smaller, but the same cleaning power ’cause it’ll be extra-concentrated.  huh.  Had a few $1 store cats for HomeLife cleaning products, so those bottles were completely free.  Oh, well, actually, I only paid $1.04 for everything, given the $2 and $4 OYNOs that PITA seems to always find…go PITA!

This clearance is not limited to Jewel – it’s also at Target and probably all other stores that sell Clorox.  Jewel made a point of telling me that their clearance price was lower than Target’s…go JEWEL!

I could have taken a picture of the back of my car filled with bleach, but boring.  Was kinda hoping someone would rear end my car, just for the shock value!

PSA – Jewel ad with $3.49/lb salmon is a typo

Saw the front page of today’s Jewel ad with the $3.49 salmon and drove like a demented person (shut up, Rachel) to check it out.  Sign up saying it was a typo:  Supposed to be $3.49 a portion, which, given that it’s only a 6 oz piece and farm-raised to boot, makes it a why bother deal.  I mean, do the math and you’re paying $9.30 for farm-raised, when Whole Foods had that wild-caught Coho deal for $8.99 a few weeks back.

But on the other hand, I got two small packs of catfish nuggets, both with $1 coupons on them.  Cornmeal batter and fried makes them tomorrow’s dinner.

booze & rebates = happy readers

I haven’t posted about this deal because, frankly, it’s not a money-maker and unless you are/were a big Smirnoff Ice fan…

But here’s a new twist:  Sunday’s Jewel ad has a $3 coupon off any 12 pk of Smirnoff Ice.   Clip and take it over to Ultra, where it’s on sale for $9.97.  Use this $25 Smirnoff Grocery Rebate and come out ahead!  The rebate form says you have to spend $25.01 on groceries to get the $25; they can be multiple receipts and different stores, so long as they were purchased within the promotion period.  You can use this pdf with no problem as it was downloaded from the Smirnoff Facebook.

The beer is from Jewel, purchased for the $10 Corona rebate, using the $3 off $10 meat purchase coupons from the booklets being handed out the past couple of weekends at the Lombard Jewel’s grand reopening.  The ribeyes and strip steaks are on sale in today’s ad.

I’ve also heard from people who were buying $10 Corona rebate forms on eBay for under $3 that don’t require any beer purchase.  I’m leery of those because a MIR puts you too much at the mercy of the fulfillment monkeys.  If they decide that your state isn’t eligible for this rebate, what are you going to say/do?  Well, unless you’re fluent in flying monkey.

Free Ken’s dressing

Had to double-check on this deal, but starting Thursday the 23rd, Jewel will be running one of those Buy 10 for $10 promotions  – one of the items is Ken’s salad dressing.  Last week’s (8/12) Smart Source had a $1 coupon, so FREE Ken’s! this deals seems to come around every 4-6 months or so…

Lisle is placing larger than usual orders for this, but if you are looking for a sizable quantity, please contact your local Jewel (or Lisle) to place a special order.

Jewel “put ur $$ where ur mouth is” shopping

Although I need dog food about as much as Romney needs a loan to pay income taxes (that’s a 2fer joke btw), I headed on over to run the following transaction:  6 POM (various flavors), 2 Kibble ‘n Bits and three Dannon yogurts.

Paid with the following:  two B2G1 POM IPs and four $1 coupons; two $1.50 Kibbles coupons; three FREE Dannon coupons and a $3/$30.  Obviously I tossed the yogurt into the cart to reach the $30 threshold.  Although we are eating a lot of this very tasty yogurt!

OOP was $2.30 – 92¢ of which was TAX!

Jewel BOGO dog & cat food

If you’re looking to stock up on some dry dog and/or cat food, Jewel has the 3-4 lbs bags of Meow Mix and Kibbles ‘n Bits on BOGO.  Ad says Meow Mix is $5.49, so buy two, use two 75¢ coupons from the 7/8 rp or the 8/5 rp and get $2 bags of cat food.

Kibbles ‘n Bits has a $1.50 coupon in the 6/24 rp, so buy two bags at $6.29 (according to ad), use two coupons and you’ll pay $1.65 a bag.  This is a very good price (works out to $8 for a 20 lb bag…which they don’t make any more anyway!)

very cheap POM juice for REACH filler

By now you should know that I don’t do weekly grocery round-ups – MUM does that beautifully, so why compete?  And frankly, I’d prefer to stock up and then shop my basement – it’s the cheap and lazy way to shop!

Jewel has some GREAT deals you can use if you’re looking at fillers for the Reach toothbrush MM.  I took a rain check last week, since I didn’t see anything that rocked my world (I mean, does anyone really need another 100 bottles of liquid pump soap?).  If you haven’t yet run your deal, I’m going for the BOGO on the POM juice.  Last time we got those little 8 oz bottles – these are their bigger brothers:  16 oz.  Here’s how I will work it:  4 Reach toothbrushes for $6 less $4 from the coupons and get back a $4 OYNO.  Second and subsequent transactions will be for 4 toothbrushes, two POM at $4.49 and pay with the $4 coupons, the $2 in POM coupons from 6/24 S (and here) and the $4 OYNO.  Net OOP will be .49.  While I love free, I love POM juice and am willing to pay .25 a 16 oz bottle.

There are B2G1 IPs available on the POM site (note: you do not have to register to print), but again, you are limited to two prints per computer, so not workable for a large quantity deal.  You could buy six of them for very little by working it this way:  Buy 6 for $13.47.  Use two B2G1 coupons, which will take off $9.98, then use four $1 coupons  and you will end up paying 49¢ for all six!  Again, this deal only works with the high-value IPs, so run it a couple of time for grins.  POM juice must be kept cool or refrigerated – although I don’t see why you couldn’t freeze them (if you’ve already cleared out your pub burger freezer).

Wags and Jewel (with RRs!!!)

I was in no hurry to pick up more mouthwash, even free or almost-free, but a reader ran this deal yesterday with no problems – today it didn’t work.  So the question was:  Is this deal still working and she just experienced a hiccup or did they somehow kill the deal?

Buy two Scope mouthwashes and get a $3 RR.  The pictured bottles are also part of a monthly B1G50% deal (tags are under the RR shelf tags).  Use two 75¢ coupons from  the 7/29 P&G and, depending on what registers you have, you will either pay zero or 24¢ (50% off the lower-priced bottle) and high tax.   Ran the deal 6 times and got 12 bottles of mouthwash and six $3 RRs.  the things i do for my readers…

The great part:  These RRs do not state “redeemable only at Walgreens.”  My guess is Wags lost the pissing match with P&G.  I headed over to Jewel and bought some frozen EE ravioli for $3.29, used a $3 RR and paid .35 in cash.  If you are unsure of your Jewel’s acceptance, please print out the Jewel-Osco Coupon Policy Summer 2012 and carry it with you.  They’ll probably be happy for clarification.
