I had 90¢ expiring at the end of the month and figured I try out this thing. First thing you have to know is that it is super easy. Seriously, they have a thing of beauty here.
You pull up to the Shell pump and the first thing you see is the screen asking if you have a Jewel card!!! Obviously you touch the YES key. Then it asks you to slide your Jewel Fuel Rewards card, after which it tells you how much of a discount you have earned. It then asks for a credit or debit card (this machine ain’t stupid!). After you’ve swiped the cc or debit card, the price per gallon on all grade levels drops by your discount – it’s really neat! In my case, the gas dropped to $2.49. I was hoping to get to a penny a gallon gas to play with the big boys, but…
The main thing to remember is that you are getting up to 20 gallons of gas – you can’t carry the balance over to another fill-up. In my case we had my car and my husband’s car right behind so I filled up and then handed the nozzle over to him. You can also fill up a can or two for the lawn mower and/or generator if you want.
I wanted to pay using some of those $10 Shell gas cards we all “earned” at CVS, but I couldn’t figure out how to make it work, there was only one person working the station registers and a long line of people – I’ll use the cards on my NYC road trip.
you were probably better off not using the $10 Shell cards because that would have limited the amount of discounted gas you could get to only $10. From what I heard, people are pissed because they said they found out you can only use one form of tender per transaction–and NOT 2 different GCs. And your fuel rewards will only apply to ONE transaction.
Some people are saying they are able to use multiple gift cards but they have to be done at locations with new registers. It is so frustrating. My shell said they couldn’t.
Did you have more than the $0.90 expiring at the end of the month? If not, where did you find $3.39/gal gas? If it’s not too far, I’ll start checking that station.
I had .90 expiring, but $1.20 in total discounts. That’s the amount that was immediately taken off. So now I start back at zero, I believe.
