the sky is falling, the sky is falling…

Just got a call from a reader who stopped at the Woodridge Dominicks a few minutes ago to pick up some steaks:  The store is wiped out!  She saw maybe 20 packages of butter, 12 gallons of milk,  only organic eggs, no RR porterhouse steaks (pretty much all the meat gone) with the frozens cleared out (two little pizzas sitting in an endcap).

is there snow predicted?

Dominicks for tomorrow

While at Dominicks a short while ago…checking out the cheap meat to use with my $2 coupon, dontchaknow… the butcher comes up to me and asks me if I like Porterhouse steaks.  It’s only my favorite type!  She tells me that starting Sunday, the Porterhouse steaks will be $4.99/lb in the large value packs and (she thought) $5.49/lb for the individual ones.  You know which ones we will all be stocking up on, right?  We’re talking a couple of bucks, MAX, for non-clearance stuff.

Yet another time when the clearance meats will be more expensive than the sale stuff!

And I only took one coupon booklet.  see how considerate i am?

Dominicks’s still hot!

the store, not the guy…perv

I pick up the PITA at school and head over to Chick-fil-A for their today only promo of a free sandwich when you say the secret phrase:  Chick-fil-A rocks my socks…. shudder… the things I do for free.  After that, decided to check out the grapefruit sale at Dominicks (3 lbs/$1); hoped I’d get maybe ONE coupon booklet…so not only is there a sale on the ruby red grapefruit, the honey tangerines are 2 lbs/$1! This is a great deal, especially since my aborted trip to Ultra shithole included a very small bag of these for $1.39 lb.  So here’s what I ended up with, besides the two sets of coupon books pictured:  1  RR cube steak for $2.58 ($2 RR q); 2 Horizon organic puny milks ($1/1 ip); 2 quarts Lucerne clearance creamer; New York Style bagel chips ($3.99/1 ip);  almost 5 pounds each of the tangerines and grapefruit.  Total was $9.77 and I used an expired $6 RR to get down to 3.77 – sweet, pun intended.

I had to pass the deli section looking for the bagel chips (and I did not intend to stuff my fat face sample the wide selection of cheeses put out with little toothpicks).  They had a full freezer of gelato and a cooler of sushi (pictured).  Both were extremely reasonable and fresh-appearing.  Even using restaurant.com at sushi places, there are times when you just want to sit in your underwear and eat – – not that i would know about going out in my underwear — except for that time….no, wait, I’m sure that that’s been expunged.

Dominicks what, again!

I cannot in my life remember a time when I hit Dominicks three times in one week – and I wasn’t there just taking coupon booklets, either!  Today’s excursion into the Twilight Zone went smoothly, with clean, well-lit aisles, friendly cashiers and customer service people all happy to take all my coupons and register rewards.  Understand the Twilight Zone reference now?

This was a very pleasant shopping experience for me.  I split the order into two,  just because it’s hard to see what coupons go with what.  Ran 5 (put in trunk) and then 4.  Total of 9 Van de Kamp fish, 18 steamer veggies, 9 steamer brown rice and 2 10-lb bags of russet potatoes (supercoupon).  Total was $33.12 for both transactions; I used the $3.50 Chex RR, the $5 Go! RR, 2 $10 Sinex RRs and paid out $4.62.

Dominicks we lubs U

I cannot believe I am hitting Dominicks so hard and fast!  Stopped in for the fish fillets, Bird’s eye veggies and a brown rice steamer.  OOP was $2.08  Used an expired BOGO (10/24 s) – in addition to the expired $2/2 coupon from the Dominicks “Muscle” booklet  – to get your choice of either another lightly sauced steamer or a whole grain one.

and picked up another 3 booklets…

This is a mash-up post…

with apologies to Rachel … Spent the day with MUM, basically hitting every store within a 10 mile radius…and this includes  *dum dum dum*  Sam’s Club.  Yes, even though I espouse the coupon party doctrine, I secretly wanted to see if there was any merit in the warehouse clubs.  Since Sam’s Club has a free membership promotion going until January 25th, we stopped in.  But first:

WagsOOP $2.80; got $24 in RRs:  6 Maalox; 20 Chex Mix and 2 Splenda.  20 Chex $1/1 coupons from the Dominicks Football booklet; 6 Maalox $5/1 (1/9 S1) and 2 BOGO Splenda (1/9 S2) and $2/1 ip (from MUM, ’cause I’m too lazy to link it myself).  Since this was the only day the cat was working with the free Chex, we hit ’em hard and fast.  The Maalox deal continues through the week and boy, do I wish I had ordered coupons (shoulda, coulda, woulda)

Dominicks:  3 loaves of their incredible artisan breads (no coupons, but sheer heaven); 5 Van de Kamp fish fillets and 6 Birds eye steamers; 4 packages clearance Johnsonville Brats; 1 Ranchers Reserve steak.  Used a $2/1 Ranchers Reserve coupon from the new book, so the steak was .02,  2 $1/2 Johnsonville Brats coupons (long expired); 5 buy Van de Kamp fish and 1 Bird’s eye steamers and get $2 off, combined with the Dominicks $2 instant savings when you buy them this week (ended up costing $2 for each combo).  Had an additional free Bird’s eye when you buy the fish (from the Feb. All You).  Total was $22.46, but I used RRs to get down to $8.96.

Target:  4 Chobani quarts of vanilla yogurt (2 pictured):  used a rain check to get them for $1.20/each, or $4.88 OOP.

Sam’s Club:  The big kahuna, the main event, our raison d’etre … $39.10 before coupons — $39.10 after.  Honestly?  I just don’t see the allure of this place.  I took pictures of some of the items for comparison purposes, so you be the judge…

I think this 5 gallons of Coke bag is odd, although I realize that it’s strictly a business-type purchase.
Paying for Chex Mix seems funny, since they just paid me to take it out of Walgreens. And the salmon? You’re paying almost eight bucks a pound here when it’s less than $4 at Ultra, Jewel or even Aldi.   That’s sheer lunacy.

My favorite thing of all?  The hand dryers in the washroom!  I knew Dyson sucked, but didn’t know it blowed…

Ooh, ooh, ooh

or stuff I keep forgetting to post about…

If you’re looking for the $70 Football coupon booklets, avoid the Danada Square Dominicks.  An empty display at the front door with no other display anywhere in the entire friggin’ store and most employees clueless.  Asked at cs and the young man gave me one.  You know you’re screwed when they’ve turned young men into coupon nazis.

Update on the K-Clark $25 Jewel gift card rebates: Peeps who sent in for their rebates within the first few days of the promotion have already started getting their cards in the mail.  Catch is that they are coming CERTIFIED MAIL!  Yep, so far it’s 100%, so if you get a notice in your mailbox, that’s what it is.  Please notify any and all who may or may not be getting a gift card in the mail so they’re aware of it…

I shop Dominicks!

Pinch me, please, ’cause for sure I must be dreaming.  Picked up all the “stuff” in the picture: 5 Sobe; 4 of the .99 Jimmy Dean clearance sausage; 3 1/2 pints blueberries; 2 Jolly Time popcorn; 2 50% off cottage cheese; 1 package bulk cinnamon; 1 HerbaShine hair color; 2 Cottonelle; 3 dozen corn tortillas; 3 Del Monte smoothies; 4 lbs pork loin chops; 4 loaves of various artisan breads and 11 Football coupon booklets!  woot!!  I used as many of my free coupons as I could but no coupon for the breads, which just about killed me.  I don’t remember the subtotal, just that it was high!  After my coupons, it was down to 28.20, so handed over $25 in RRs (remember, the $10 Sinex ones only ran me $1.30 each) and $3.20.  The bottom of the receipt shows Total Savings Value 99% $101.93, which works for me.  Check out the picture on the right of cake slices.

Oh and Rachel?   Mary says “hello”  or something with the word hell in it…

Coupon Nazi update

Well, apparently Mary aka Coupon Nazi is back and completely refreshed after her few days off (stalker-cam). A reader stopped by last night to pick up a few items: OJ, produce, just a small order. Mary refused to accept wts, saying “I can’t take these because they’re expired.” When told that Dominicks takes expired coupons back one year (news flash!), she replied that Dominicks had changed their policy effective January 1. Reader asked to see a copy of the new policy and was told that employees aren’t allowed to hand out corporate documents. (again, no surprise). So reader said that the new policy should be available on the website, right? (hello smart phones!) Apparently, corporate hasn’t gotten around to updating their coupon policy online… Reader left items on belt and walked out. lather, rinse, repeat…

The only thing that surprises me about the above is that psycho broad continues to use the same lines – can’t she come up with anything more original? And no matter how many calls get placed to corporate about her, like the Energizer Bunny, she just keeps going and going. unfortunately, not out the door…

Dominicks Just for U (just not me)

MUM always posts about the various deals that show up on her personalized Just for You emails  – I  hit delete.  Decided to check it out this morning – just for grins – but nothing funny about it.  Now I’m certain they don’t want my business, ’cause my Haas “personalized” avocado is gonna cost me $1.25, while Rachel’s is only .99.

So if the cereal prices they compare favorably to Walmart (!) don’t suck me in , they’ll wave (semi)cheap avocados in front of me.  pah
