Jewel today

Yeah, tho I wander the crowded aisles of the grocery store in the midst of plenty… well, so much for biblespeak…

Ran in to grab a few (few meaning more than three) of the Zone Perfect candy nutrition bars on sale for $10/10, using a $1/1 coupon (10/31 s) and paid for the Chex Mix with a wt expiring 11/30.  Total for 16 bars and Chex Mix was .31 (damned taxes).

Jewel $1.06 OOP

Went to help a friend with her shopping, and decided to pick up a few things myself…you know how that goes.

So here we have the 10 GG vegetables (free after the coupons in the Doms book), 6 Swiss Miss (Doms book), 6 Melitta 40-pk filters (10/3 S) and a bag of Beneful dog food (found cat).   Total was $4.06 (!!!), but I used two $1.50 cats from the Meijer coffee deal and ended up at $1.06 which was the tax.

Jewel updates

Not gonna take a picture of Scotts toilet paper and the Pure Protein bars, even if it was all free – boring

Make sure you check with your local Jewel before heading out to pick up the BOGO DS games – not all stores are carrying them.  My store did not receive any games and may or may not get them during the sale period; I’ll check other locations later today and post back.  Also did not have any of the Halloween pillsbury tube cookies which other stores have been clearancing out (and which tie in beautifully with the $1/2 blinkies above them and the $3 cat.

Back from scavenging tour…crap on a stick!  Went to the 24 hr Jewel/Osco in Wheaton to see about the DS or wii games and the Pillsbury clearance cookies.  Steerike 3 and you’re out.  Seriously, no games whatsoever (old computer games which you see everywhere), no cookies.  but there were winetags everywhere…

Jewel early bird specials

Apparently Jewel is getting into the games business for the holidays…In Sunday’s (21st) ad, there is a “Pre-Black Friday” sale of DS and wii games:  B1G1 for $14.99.  Sonic Rush, maybe HS Musical, something about ice cream, some cop games…won’t know more until tomorrow morning.  Some stores have already started selling the DS, but not the wii games.   Great, one more thing to pile on my plate for tomorrow…no rest for the wicked.

Many, many thanks to Barb on CW.

Jewel – even better! – $1.36

I was only going to check out the skirt steak – honest!  Ended up with:  6 Scott tp ($1 ip); 4 Pure Protein bars ($1 ip); CC cranberry/ walnut bread ($3 store cat); 2 pkgs skirt steak ($4 and $3 off in clearance stickers); 4 Porterhouse steaks ($16 off in clearance stickers and 2 BOGOs on top of the butcher case).  Used a $4/40 found in cart and 2 $5 RRs.  Total OOP was $1.36.

maybe i should feel the luv at dominicks…

Free Scott TP

Here is a link to a free roll of any Scott product, bath tissue (fancy-schmancy toilet paper) or towel.  Bottom right hand link says Scotts Natural, but what prints is a generic $1 coupon.  Soooooo, single roll of Scotts for free!  Print one, hit back and you’ve got two.  Thanks to OP on CW, who picked them up at Jewel.

And while you’re at Jewel picking that up, how about a couple of free protein bars?  Click here, print, hit back and two $1 coupons.  The .99 sale ends at Jewel (today?), so hurry on over.  I just remembered that the magic coupon machine at CVS spit out a BOGO Pure Protein Bar coupon, sooooo 2 free!  Even better (or worse, depending on how these taste).

Whirlwind shopping tours

Saturday is ME day, which means I expect my family to take care of themselves.  In between time-consuming tasks like mani/pedicures, sigh, I squeezed in a few shopping runs.  Wags was a last minute – Oh, I forgot the Kleenex sale ends today!! – run and the Jewel?  Well,  let’s just say I have no great faith in the mixers or PF Chang still showing on the preferred cards after tonight.  May be wrong, but I’d rather buy them all now and return with my coupons within the next 60 days.

Found Kleenex at only one Wags, and they were the cube ones, not the 200 ct boxes, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers, right?  So 8 boxes with 4 coupons; ended up OOP $4.37 and got back a $3 RR.  On to Jewel…

This Jewel had a goodly selection of the HC mixers, so ran two transactions of 8 each using my Dominicks Fresh Values cards.  What, you want me to lie about it?  No PF Chang on either of them, only the mixers, but hey… So I ended up OOP $4.35 on each deal, but I’ll go back with the coupons later.  Had I used the coupons at the time, I could have used 8 on each transaction and gotten $4 in overage, which would have been sweet, but in this case, I’d rather go back with only 4 coupons and not worry about missing out on the deal completely.  PITA daughter loves these things, so anything that gets her to eat is fine by me, especially if it’s free…

Jewel today – Heads up!

Just got back from Jewel…will take pix later, but wanted to let you all know to:

Check your Avenue before you leave the house; people have been reporting that the PF Chang and HC Fresh Mixers have disappeared from their preferred card without being used, even though the expiration dates are next week.  This happened to me, so here is what you do: Take your Dominicks, Speedway, anything loyalty card with a bar code of 12 numbers and register that on the Avenue site.   Print out what your deals are, so you don’t forget – they will all show as a preferred card – so make a notation about which tag to scan.  Obviously, this is at SCOT.   Today’s transaction was on a Speedy Rewards tag with both items showing (although the Chang discount was only $2.25).  Score!!  My Dominicks’ cards don’t have the PF Chang, but do have the HC Fresh Mixers.  Buy your limits NOW, don’t wait until Monday or you can be sure they will be pulled.  Buy now and return in the next 60 days with your receipts and coupons.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Vendors are apparently asking Jewel to yank the Avenue deals when the volume purchased becomes more than anticipated.  This has to be a customer relations nightmare for Jewel!  Imagine the person who checked his/her card the evening before and printed out the offers, then went shopping first thing…can we say majorly pissed when nothing comes off?

Second item of note:  Jewel corporate has had meetings with store management making them aware of the number of “extreme” couponers out there (my choice of words).  Corporate is aware of the sheer volume of business that couponers bring to each and every coupon-friendly store and is now trying to ensure that all stores maintain a coupon-friendly attitude.  Mind you, this doesn’t mean anyone ever has the right to act rude or throw things or in any way attempt to demean the poor schnook who has to take the abuse.  and yes, these things have all happened to cs and cashiers… so don’t even go there…

Jewel for dinner

Here’s the deal:  Picked up six of the $6.99 PF Chang because that was the maximum on my preferred card, then added “stuff” to come up to the ten needed to discount $5.00.  Obviously I don’t need any more cake mix, but this is a case where it’s cheaper to throw them into the basket to get the discount on the other stuff.  Vanity Fair napkins are a total rip-off at $2, but when you don’t have any and your family balks at using toilet paper…what’s a mother to do?  The Macaroni Grill product was thrown in to get up to $30 to use a 3/30 coupon I found – don’t worry, I had a free coupon!

Just cooked up a few packages of the PF Change – the general consensus is that it’s right up there with take out:  I agree.  Wish I had more preferred cards…

Update here:  I cooked 3 of the bags which state “Meals for Two.”  There is not one bit of food left over, people.  My take on this?  Extremely fine quality, but very expensive:  the regular shelf price is $10.99, but even the sale price of $6.99 is too high (it you’ve gotten the price down to $1.99 or free with RRs, then it’s a great deal and I wish I had like a zillion preferred cards).  If you’re going to spend that kind of money, might as well go out and have tons of doggy bags.

Jewel – It works!!

See sticky for coupon info 8 Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers, 2 PF Chang and 1 package of Gonnella rolls (for the Papa Charlie’s)  for a total of $1.12 OOP.  Note that I used a $3 RR from the Kleenex deal, so if you’d like, add the 3 bucks back into the equation…still cheap, huh?
