Pringles, my new health food

Today I bought a few cans of Pringles, the 3-pk with the multigrain one FOR FREE.  ahem.  so anyway, I decided, purely as a scientific experiment, to compare the two.  Puhleeze.  There is nobody on the face of this earth who could lie convincingly and say these taste the same (well, except for either Joe Isuzu or just about any politician).  Don’t get me wrong, they’re not bad,  more cracker-y tasting, but not Pringles.

In fact, if you are looking to improve your health, this grocery store aisle is definitely the wrong one for you to be in!  There is no way to pretty this up, peeps, but Pringles are not a health food.  As silly as claiming gummy vitamins will healthify you back from the comatose.  but i do so love my gummy vitamins…..

Can’t trust the media?

Honestly, I just don’t know who or what to believe any more!  One magazine claims that Scott and Kourtney have eloped, while another claims they’ve broken up and she’s seeing a runway model.  Not that I really give a flying fig about what happens with these two pseudo-celebs, but if you can’t believe what you see in print, how will you ever decide on a candidate?  Not so easy, is it?  Seems like each candidate for every office can prove (through 3 second sound bites) that the other candidate is a giant steaming .

Oh, and just so you know…I’m talking about your candidate.

Moosies update

Well, the moosies are now almost 10 weeks old.  Big Moose is over 5 pounds, while the next largest (a male) is only 3+; I think Big Moose ate a couple of his siblings in utero…  The smallest baby is 2 pounds.  Mom in picture is 10 pounds, so you can estimate their size by that. Second picture is of them all eating lunch – that’s the only way you’re going to get then all in one spot without moving!  They’re eating from a large dinner plate (for comparison sizing).

Farmers markets

I love going to farmers markets.  Well, up until this year, anyway.  Don’t get me wrong, I still love the fresh produce, bakery items, etc., but my garden really turned out well and I found myself needing fewer and fewer items:  admission here – I haven’t gone in a couple of months!  I literally have the world’s largest supply of butternut squash in the yard waiting to be picked and stored for the winter.  My tater tower tires should furnish a bumper crop.  My cukes need to be picked again and while my pumpkins didn’t turn out in plural, I still got one gigantic one to carve and put out for Halloween.

So I’ve been meaning to make a trip just for my winter stock-up items, in this case, only onions.  Onions store very well all through the winter, kept cool and dry in the basement.  Today is the last market day, dumbass!  Got out there and got this big box of yellow, sweet and red onions for $20.  DH says why so expensive?  obviously he does not do the grocery shopping…
Note:  I also try to pick up some bakery stuff from Elena’s Cucina, which has the most incredible biscotti and pizzas.  If you’re ever in the Roselle area, it’s at 809 West Lake Street, suite 106.  I’ve never been out there, but since the market will be closed until spring, might just make a trip there.  Not cheap, but very high quality foods.

Candy talk

Quick post here before I go to run some errands/deals.  Don’t forget to click on the coupons.com button on the right side.  Since they reset on the first, today and tomorrow will be the last days you can print some of the candy coupons.  If I were interested in stocking up on Halloween candy after the fact, I’d print out the Nestle and Wonka high value coupons.  With the various deals going around even before the holiday, afterward it should be MMs all around.  Print two for each coupon and call your dentist.

Giveaway winners!

I didn’t use a fancy-schmancy number generator; I just put the numbers on a paper and had my PITA pick 5.  If you didn’t pay her off in advance, that’s your problem…

Congratulations to the following people:  mimi; Pat Gates; Jamie; eb and Silviavm.  I’ve already sent out emails asking for your deets.  Please respond as soon as possible, as I’d like to get them in the mail this weekend.   Rachel, you’ll get yours as soon as the check clears…

If I don’t get a response from a poster by 5 pm Tuesday (not likely, I know), I’ll pick alternate winners.  Again, thanks to all who entered.

Cheap Puffs at Staples

Was browsing through Staples, when I saw this cart of clearance Puffs 3-pks, priced at $2.40.  Since we just ran out and the cat deal starting on November 1 doesn’t give any prices, I’m thinking it’s a pretty good idea to stock up for now, especially if you have Staples Rewards checks to use.  There is a .25/3 coupon in the 9/26 P&G (pink cover).

All Staples are clearancing these out, as they were part of the “back to school” promos.  I’m going back for another couple of three packs, just in case the cat deal price points suck…

Today’s really cheap Groupon

Now this is a fantastic price for hair removal!  I don’t use this sort of thing myself (thank the goddess of cheap), but know people who do and it’s expensive as hell!  Six treatments for about the cost of one.  Fine print is not too bad, expires one year from now, yada yada yada…check it out for yourself.

Time travel (outside of romance novels)

and no, this is not about buying the Microsoft IPO…

Have you seen this You Tube video yet – it’s already gone viral.  A “time traveler” in 1928 clutching a cell phone.  Why everyone jumps on this thing is beyond me.  The main problem: no cell towers or satellites in 1928.  Don’t need any more info than that…

Dinner for 4 plus lunches….$2.50?

As part of my continuing effort to clear out my freezer…presenting steak fajitas – ¡olé!

Four round steaks from Jewel, sliced thin, one TGIF steak fajitas package meal (clears out freezer space), one onion and the leftover GG corn.  Simmered with added water.  Rice in the cooker and tada!

Obviously the big splurge was the TGIF (although I can’t remember the exact cost…but it was cheap…)
