CVS for freebies

The Magic Coupon Machine today started spitting out $1/2 Mars candy bars, which ties in nicely with the 2/$1 sale on Snickers (my favorite)!  Every card is getting this sweet deal, folks!

In today’s Smart Source there is a $2 off any Stayfree product.  While I know the Chicago Tribune insert got the coupon, some of the smaller papers did not.  It might be worth buying a few coupons for stock up purposes.

Wags has these on sale for $1.99, CVS has an assortment of them for $2 and RiteAid has a $3 deal where you get a $1+ Up back.  Don’t forget that you can always price match at Walmart, too, if your store(s) don’t have sufficient stock.

Today’s Smart Source (all papers) has a $2 off any Organix body wash or hair product – check your drug stores for clearance products because I’ve been seeing lots of Organix at 50% off.  CVS has a Spend $10 and get $5 ecbs, but unfortunately Organix is higher than $5 and less than $10.  Cheapest deal would be two of the $6.99 shampoos or conditioners, use the two $2 coupons to pay, after ecbs, about the same as the 50% off clearance prices!  It’s your call, but this is a really good shampoo/conditioner line – the smell from the coconut one makes me hungry for Mounds bars.

Readers’ pix

Couple of pictures that caught my eye – you’ll appreciate them, too, I’m sure.

This reader read the Walmart post and ran out to stock up on bug stuff.  He says he’s placed an order for 200 more boxes of fly paper.  whoa…

Another reader just had to outdo me on the Shell cards at CVS – – to the tune of $550!  Way to go!  Combine these puppies with the Jewel fuel rewards and you can be driving on fumes for the next year.   Of course, the fact that gas jumped up 30¢ overnight is gonna impact us somewhat.

Walmart for very little $$$

In fact, I was using OPM entirely!  It all started when SC started talking about going to Walmart to get some “stuff.”  The robot started waving its arms and yelling “Danger Will Robinson.”  Stuff? What kinda stuff?  Stuff to a guy means wander around the store looking at the really cheap things I could take home ’cause I need it.  (Last time, he bought a bug zapper…which is a joke and now hides in shame in the back porch).

Brought out the inserts for Black Flag and Cutter and lucked out on both:  The cans of Cutter Wasp/Hornet spray were $1, the Black Flag flypaper was 97¢ and the Cutter citronella candles were also 97¢ (had to disuade SC from taking the larger $5.88 citronella candles because they smelled better) – I also had a coupon for a FREE container of Meow Mix pate toppers (thanks Rachel).

Total haul was 18 packs of fly paper, 6 cans of wasp/hornet spray, 18 citronella candles and the lonely little cat food.  Tax was $3.44 – I paid $2.42…using my Walmart gift card I got with some serious Christmas Holiday overage.

$3 SB One Step at WM

The Scrubbing Bubbles One Step toilet bowl cleaners are on clearance at Walmart for $3 – – and most of the boxes have $3 peelies!  If you picked up any of these from the freebie deals earlier this year (or was that last year?), you should have $3 non-expired coupons from those boxes, just in case someone has taken the peelies.

Food4Less & Walmart

Hit up the Walmart on Rte 53 first (Glen Ellyn), checking if they had any of the Black Flag fly paper in stock – no.  They did have ten packs of the Ball brand pectin, which they paid me 14¢ to take out of the store.

Decided to drive down to Bolingbrook’s Food4Less (after first calling to see if Nutella had come in).  Yes, they’d received 10 cases and sold about seven already.  Yikes!  So PITA and I drove over and picked up ten, along with ten bread products, using a $1 off an bread product when you buy Nutella.  This coupon was from a tearpad at Pete’s Market.  Ended up spending $14.11 for ten Nutella and ten bread products (English muffins and bagels, primarily).  Since the Nutella was still on sale for $1.98 a jar (shelf tag says it’s $3.58 retail), I did not have to use my rain check for ten jars, which was written on June 4th.  Since it’s not likely I’ll be needing more Nutella this decade, the first person to comment gets it.  The $1 mfr coupon is in the 5/6 rp (exp. 8/5).

We stopped at the Walmart across from Food4Less and found seven of the Black Flag fly paper boxes at 97¢ each.  Because not only is this stuff high tax, Bolingbrook tax is 8.5%(!), so ended up spending 44¢ OOP.

Ken’s salad dressing and Lawry’s marinade PSA

If your local Jewel follows corporate coupon policy and won’t adjust down your coupons (let alone give you overage), you can always trot over over to Walmart and do the price-match thingy – not only will you get the sale price, you will also get overage to reduce that tax (1.75% food tax).  I’d advise taking the ad with you – they claim you don’t need it, but…

Remember, the Ken’s sale is only valid for Thursday-Saturday, while the Lawry’s goes through the entire sale week.

FREE fly paper

I was sorting through today’s inserts and noticed the $1 coupon for any Black Flag product in the red plum (note that this coupon appears in most papers, not just the good Trib).  They had the same $1 coupon last June and I was able to grab boxes and boxes of Black Flag fly paper, selling at Walmart for 98¢ a box of four rolls.  Price is still the same, coupon doesn’t expire until July 15 and you won’t have to worry about my clearing the shelves this year!

I prefer fly paper ’cause then I don’t have to worry about storing or disposing of chemicals.  Yes, it’s nasty to see, but I only hang them in the back porch (which is Fly Central anyway).
