Jewel tripping

Read about the Oxiclean 56 oz clearance on CW, so ran over to check it out – SCORE!  They only had four left on the shelf, but I liberated them all at $1.50 each.  Use the $3/2 coupon and we’re talking our favorite word:  free.  PITA also freed some wts from bottle bondage and that explains the Coke bottles.  Also purchased but not shown are 14 4-pk double rolls of Cottonelle on clearance for $1.49.   I picked these up for Rachel, who will go back with those .50 IP coupons to end up with $1/pack toilet paper.  The Lisle Jewel also had Northern 4-pack double rolls for $1.99 and 3-roll packs (big rolls) of Brawny for $1.99.  There was still lots of stock on the clearance cart in the back when I left.

Please read the shelf tags for the Oxiclean carefully.  Rachel’s (crappy) Jewel had them marked at $1.50 OFF (she even scanned one), so double-check.

Montgomery Wags

Made the drive out to our latest Wags, which wasn’t as far as I’d thought; didn’t even have to pack a box lunch!  Sooooo, you see here a shitload (professional blogging term) of Aquafresh training and pump toothpaste.  And for all you nay-sayers – – the apple/banana flavor rocks!  I was kinda hoping the car would break down on the return home so I could finish the tube(s).  The picture here is about 90+ tubes; I spent high tax.  hate high tax

So on the way home realize that we have nothing for dinner and I ain’t about to start cooking.  Remembered the one-day sale on Culinary Circle pizzas.  Well, $3.47 isn’t as good a price as the last time ($1.98?), but then, this time it’s not a computer glitch.  sigh. Ad says “limit 8.”  Ad lies…  Threw a bunch of RRs and OYNO cats at the register and walked out after spending $1.49 in US currency.

Jewel on a short Fuze

hahahah ahem.  Since it’s the last day of the Fuze BOGO sale, I ran in to grab a few and get a rain check…which I did.  160, to be exact.   I’ll order coupons when Dede gets them back in stock AND eliminates that stupid limit.  If I want 80 coupons, I damned well better get them!  I believe that Coke experienced some glitches with delivering this stuff, so it’ll be some time before it comes in.  Even if it comes in before my coupons do, we all know what to do, right?  Buy and return with the coupons within 60 days of purchase to get the cash back.  Put it on a credit card so you don’t have to front the funds, then have them credit your account.  See?  easy-peasy.

CVS, Wags, PetSmart, pet shop, library, Jewel, collapse…

CVS for the Aquafresh toothbrushes and pump. They’re part of the $5/5 oral health care promo, so buying 5 or more brings you down to coupon price.  Sadly, this was all they had on the shelf so ended up .51 OOP.  I’ll check back later in the week for toothbrushes when their next shipment comes in.

Wags was only a quickie stop to grab twelve Capn Crunch clearance boxes using the .50/1 from today’s inserts.  OOP was .11, probably the only thing I’ve bought at Wags for low tax!

On to PetSmart, where I just noticed that they are charging up to 10% tax on some pet food.  Wheaton basically sucks donkey balls when it comes to taxation.  If I had to actually pay cash for this stuff I’d be broke.  They let me run everything in one transaction, using three of the $5 store coupons and the various mfr coupons:  22 cans of Friskies; 40 cans of Mighty Dog; 2 pedigree.  OOP was $4.  Note the coupon matchups were from the prior post.  I’ll hit the DG one another day to empty out my wallet.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  I really hope you are using the PetSmart coupons with your name and PetPerks number on them.  They checked my coupons against my card (!) because they had received a corporate memo that the ones with the blank space where the names/numbers are usually printed are fraudulent (with copies of coupons people had tried to use taped to the registers).  They told me that mine weren’t right because the print type was different than what corporate sent out, but since my name and number were on them and matched my card, that wouldn’t fly (I don’t know why the type would be different, unless I have a mac?).  Either way, they were very courteous and I do not mean to imply that it was anything but a pleasure to shop there.

Stopped at Puppy Parlor to drop off ten Sunday papers (not all mine!) – wait, you actually read the print edition?

Jewel was almost completely out of Fuze – apparently some sonofabitch came in last night and took 500 off the shelves and out of the backroom.  There is a reason why we special order, folks.  Otherwise mgmt gets pissed because there’s nothing left for those regular shoppers and especially today because there was a table set up for sampling.  Hard to sell and sample limited product…

Ended up with four SB milk, 16 Fuze, seven Allegra (for MUM’s House of Plague), Deans light cream and two packages of Jewel brand lima beans.  I used the $2/25 from the Jewel email, coupons on everything else except the cream.  PITA found three FREE jewel veggies cats, so used one.  OOP was $5.13 and I freaked, thinking I’d missed a coupon.  Realized at the very end that my cream alone was $4 – silly Goddess.   I’ll probably hand over a small RR to get cash back when I return tomorrow for more Allegra and Fuze.

NOTE: Jewel warehouse computer had a glitch/hiccup and no Fuze was sent out yesterday, so 17 stores are short.  ouch! Deliveries will be made tonight, so it should be back in stock, although I don’t know of the quantities available then.  Get a rain check.

I love sausage… a G-rated post

Last day of the $3.99 price and last day of the $1 OYNO, so ran over and picked out 11 sweet packages of brats.  PITA found a $3/30 to add to the mix so I ended up at $8.61.  Tossed a $4 RR and 3 $1 cats and handed over $1.61 in US currency.  and got back 11 $1  cats.

So now we can grill all summer with the good stuff…

Jewel and Wags with new info

On the Wags front, picked up seven of the Luster White because I was only rolling my $3 Colgate RRs; the white box contains six more packages and I used more of those Easter pencils as fillers.

Jewel – Ran in for the Mrs. T and to check on the expiration date of the brats deal – TODAY!  OK, must return later.

While at Wags, I checked out the Aquafresh training toothpaste and the children’s toothpaste.  The week of 4/20 Wags will issue a mid-week sale ad and one of the items will be these two items for $1.99.  Well, the April IVC book has a $1 coupon AND there is supposed to be a $1 mfr coupon in the 4/17 r, so we’re talking .01 overage (make sure you have something else or have them mark down the coupon or mark up the item – either way it’s free).  Now, I don’t need to stock up on fluoride-free products, but I’m hitting them up for at least 20 because the flavor on the pictured item is apple-banana.  and i am so done with mint…kwim?

Jewel .31 and a shocker

I spent the afternoon watching over the puppy shop while a friend ran errands.  Good thing that the browsers asked questions about the only couple of dogs I remember.  Breed?  Age?  way too demanding, these customers.  you can now understand why i don’t work in the service sector…

So, apparently the house elves took off with all the tortillas since no one in my family ever eats or uses up anything (yes, that’s right, I’ve got ’em too, the one teaspoon of milk in the gallon container – but it’s not empty!), so ran to Jewel to get more.  Might as well get some more brats, too.  Paid $3.31 using cash and 3 of the $1 cats from prior sales and got back 3 $1 cats…go figure.

And now for a shocker….I had a long conversation with a store manager the other day about the use of wine tags – good or evil from the store’s perspective.  Apparently there really isn’t much difference between the Jewel brat coupon and the mfr brat coupon (I specifically used this as an example).  The promotion is somehow managed by Bud (in this case) and the store gets credit for each wt that scans.  If it scans, they get credit for it.  Understand?  Don’t feel guilty and feel that you are somehow going to singlehandedly bring about the fall of Supervalu or otherwise reduce ole Craig’s 2010 bonus.  Ain’t gonna happen.  I asked, well what if it were not just one or two or even a couple hundred OR A THOUSAND Jewel/Bud brat wts redeemed?  This is where one of the parties gets a strange look in their eye and starts facing shelves…in other words, it doesn’t matter at all.  I should say that this manager has been in management for years, at numerous stores, and continues to work up the ladder – they know their stuff.

You may believe what you wish, of course, but if I am told by management to back up the truck, I am going to assume that there is no hidden meaning in that statement.

Jewel $2.53

Ran out quickly to get the car washed (yes, seriously) using those Spirit of America deals (Groupon?).  Very nice for an automatic wash.  Then on to Jewel where I just planned on dropping off all the plastic bags I seem to accumulate.

OK, then I remembered I needed to give a heads up to the mgmt about the free Fuze starting Thursday…what the hell, might as well pick up some “stuff.”  Stuff in picture is the  Johnsonville Brats with paid for with the infamous store wt; 2 Celeste pizza for one (wt); 2 1/4 lbs green beans (wt) and Gonnella mushy buns.  Total came to $3.53, so paid with 3 $1 OYNO cats and .53.  Got another $1 OYNO.

If any of you are looking to score large quantities of the Fuze for next week’s sale, head on over to the Lisle Jewel.  They are expecting a large quantity… free yum…

Free Fuze @ Jewel

Just saw this on CW (thanks Barb) that the sale starting Thursday, April 14 will have another one of those (mostly) lackluster $5 off when you purchase ten participating products.  However, Fuze is part of the promotion, which brings down the per bottle cost to .49.  There just happens to be a $1/2 coupon on Fuze in today’s Smart Source insert so free Fuze!  If you can score extra inserts from family and friends, do so, as coupons are going for .20+ each on eBay and clipping services seems to have very limited quantities.

Jeweless

Since I was on Butterfield anyway, decided to keep on driving west and hit the 24 hr. Jewel at Danada Square.  I’d been hearing about some deals with the OYNOs that sounded sweet, but weren’t.  I’ll explain…

The Tyson prepared meats packages are part of the cat promotion, but you have to buy 2 packages to get the $2 cat.  Even with the peelies for the puny 4-packs of Kings sweet rolls, you’re talking $3.99 x 2, or $7.98 less the $2 cat.  Sorry, but these are only about a pound each and you’d need a hell of a lot of filler – potatoes, rice, noodles – before you could feed a family of any size.  Now, as someone pointed out to me, if you are single and dislike or are tired of frozen meals and don’t have a lot of time or desire to cook, well, then this is a nice deal.  It would be nicer with coupons, but it is what it is…

Since I was there anyway, I decided to liberate some wts.  Noticed that there were full tearpads on the Tostitos display and wts taped to the Budweiser display.  The fact that they expired yesterday did not escape my notice.  I was able to get a few (and I actually mean that) beer tags, then decided to pick up the Johnsonville brats for the $1 cat.  I had a wt for $3 off any Johnsonville brats or other sausage and a previous $1 cat, so figured I would pay low tax.  I told the self scan woman that the tearpads of coupons on the Tostitos display were expired.  She first said that they would still accept them.  Apparently the look I gave her was enough to make her go and take them down and then go over to the beer display and remove those as well.  When I scanned my sausages and hit the “coupons” button, self scan lady read the wt and said I needed to buy beer to use it because it’s not like some of the other coupons that say no alcohol purchase required.  I said that Illinois law prohibits the purchase of alcohol as a requirement of coupon use and to call the manager;  she replied that she was the manager.  I also told her that the information was directly from Jewel corporate in the Tribune and the two cs women both said that they never got any information from corporate and they would have about this.  Since I never engage in a pissing match (and I don’t want to imply that they were being mean in the least), I said to cancel the transaction and left.  Well, I’ll pick up the sausage at my Jewel, where they know Jewel policies.  But at least I gots me more wts!
