I love sausage… a G-rated post

Last day of the $3.99 price and last day of the $1 OYNO, so ran over and picked out 11 sweet packages of brats.  PITA found a $3/30 to add to the mix so I ended up at $8.61.  Tossed a $4 RR and 3 $1 cats and handed over $1.61 in US currency.  and got back 11 $1  cats.

So now we can grill all summer with the good stuff…

    • I actually ran all these at one time with a cashier…who naturally had to have the manager OK this (which wasn’t a problem). I’ve picked up a couple of packages before, but I guess since I was self-scan the cs person was able to override it. With eleven the amount was much higher. Again, I heard from someone who shopped there a couple of hours later and she picked up about 20 and the same cs manager came over to override (I think she ran them in sets of four or five).

  1. the people at the Jewel I went to were trying to tell me that the $3 brat coupon had to specifically state that no liquor purchase was necessary in order for them to accept it…. I told her she was reading the coupon policy wrong, and she ended up photocopying my copy (they don’t have a copy of their own policy…?) and saying she would ask the store manager about it tomorrow. She ended up honoring the coupon but seemed suspicious about it. So what exactly is the deal? Does the policy cover all liquor coupons whether or not it states a liquor purchase is not necessary?….. I’m so confused.

    • Somehow I don’t believe that IL law changes based on whether or not a coupon has specific wording, do you? Were I a manufacturer distributing coupons in multiple states, I would omit the wording specific to that state.

The fact that your Jewel had no copy of their own corporate coupon policy is probably a good thing, because their willingness to accept your copy means that they will now be following the official Jewel coupon policy, not waffling and making up craziness like Dominicks. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if Dominicks required you to buy the brats and then gave you the Bud!

      • I confirmed — again — with a Supervalu spokeswoman today that the policy allows you to use this type of coupon without buying the beer, despite the wording on the coupon. But training on this issue is not widespread, it seems. I also had the experience last night of my store’s night manager not knowing where the coupon policy was. She did very nicely call someone to check.
