Jewel for OR popcorn & 2L – almost like old times…

Photo.jpg

Not quite as good as the time they paid us to take home 2L bottles, but close!  This week’s Jewel ad has BOGO OR popcorn PLUS two 2L bottles of pop with each set (unfortunately, the stupid ad says “select varieties” so you can’t know what coupons will work until the actual first day of the sale).  I used 7 45¢ coupons for the Naturals from 1/19 S2, one $1 peelie for a popped corn white cheddar bag (on the OR boxes) and 8 75¢ coupons for the 2L Ten products from 1/12.   Make sure the register accepts the full coupon value – on BOGO deals they like to give you either zero or say it can’t be accepted.  OOP for all you see was $2.02.

And since we switched over to the jars of OR popcorn, these are going to Rachel, but we get to keep the 2L bottles!  This is a great deal to buy coupons for, if you don’t have enough since you can stock up for the entire summer!  And since you can return within 60 days to Jewel with your receipt and coupons… WeClip has the OR coupons for 8¢ each and 10¢ for the 2L ones (there’s a limit of 40 per day on the pop coupons).  He’s usually the cheapest of the clipping services.

my new addiction – vinegar

Photo.jpg
Over the years I’ve read about the wonderful world of vinegar and how it can be used for cleaning practically everything. Yes, it makes a great window cleaner, dyes Easter eggs fine and I’m sure that using it on kitchen counters is also good (I’ve even used it in homemade wipes).

I also know that fabric softener coats towels, clothes – heck, anything you wash – so I’d been omitting it on clothes that went on the line.  But I started pouring white vinegar in the liquid softener section about two weeks ago and was amazed at how soft and thirsty the towels came out, along with pretty much everything.  The slight vinegar smell I noticed when things came out of the washer was entirely gone after the dry cycle.

A couple of nights ago I broke it to DH:  Have you noticed how much fluffier and more absorbent the towels are over the past couple of weeks with my new fabric softener?  (He obviously hasn’t noticed, but plays along).  And how do you like the smell?  (He takes a towel and says he doesn’t smell anything.)  At this point you spring the trap and tell him you switched to white vinegar instead of fabric softener a couple of weeks ago.

He’s stuck now, cause he’s already admitted there isn’t any smell and he’s been using towels and wearing clothing softened with vinegar.  so now i need to sell my Bounty stockpile…

Oh, and I used the 75¢ EE coupons from today’s inserts to get them each for 24¢ or 96¢ a gallon (gallons are $1.99 or $1.75 after coupon).

Walgreens & Target – – before the Snow Days

Photo.jpgAnd yes, once again PITA will be staying home on Monday and Tuesday – oh, joy – so decided to run everything at one time and be a bum tomorrow. wait, that’s my usual modus operandi…

Walgreens is just a roll between the 10,000 points generated by pur Absorb and the $10 RR from Culturelle.  One nice thing is that if you find a bunch of pur Absorb in one location, you can run them all in one transaction and then use those points to buy the Culturelle at another location (those have to separate transactions, though).  Pay 18¢ per transaction.  I actually started with last week’s RRs on the food cream, so it was just the 18¢ OOP.  Obviously, you’re better off buying the Culturelle with points to start off.

Photo.jpg
Then on to Target for pizza, pop and Nicorette.  Do not ask me to explain how the registers at Target calculate totals because I don’t think it’s humanly possible.  Suffice to say the total OOP for the pictured items was $17.77; that’s with four $10 Target Nicorette coupons, four $15 mfr Nicorette coupons (printables); Cartwheel (10% off pizza & 20% off Nicorette), two B2G1 DiGiorno mfr coupon, 3 $1 off 2 DiGiorno pizzas Target coupons and 5% off using REDcard.

Out and about shopping: Staples, Jewel & Dominicks

First stop was Staples for my weekly pick up of free paper.  Completely out of stock.  They sold out on Saturday (people coming in all day) and said some stores sold out even earlier in the week.  Told me the warehouse is currently out of stock.  I’ll check back later in the week, since it’s not likely I’l run out before then. bwahahahahaha

Wanted to check out the remaining inventory at the Dominicks on North Aurora Avenue.  Locked up tight.  However, it’s very possible that the store I’ve always thought of as the North Aurora location isn’t – and the store on Eola is the one they’re talking about.   It’s certainly not worth driving around to check.  If any of you have more info, please post.  I would pick up more organic whole milk and eggs.  Or any of the still-open Dominick locations, for that matter!

Photo.jpg

Jewel has, once again, the Yakisoba noodles for 99¢ BOGO.  Use the 50¢ coupon from 1/12 S for more free noodles!  Remember that Jewel registers won’t accept two coupons on the BOGO, nor the 2¢ in overage even though it is in the Jewel coupon policy, so watch that darned thing and make sure you get credited. Cashier said “Didn’t you buy about a million packs of noodles last year?”  Lots of clearance cheese left over from the Holidays – I grabbed a couple of brie tubes for $3 each.  I also grabbed what I thought was $1 pineapple in the 9 oz cups – was marked $2.49, but figured it was just a weird pricing error.  Turned out to be mango, not pineapple and frankly, even if it were $1 I wouldn’t buy mango that color!  also turns out i can’t read ’cause it said mango on top…

braving the elements Jewel shopping

Photo.jpgReally wanted some fresh vegetables or a nice salad – alas and alack, it was not to be.  Couple of things to mention:  The $1 9 oz fruit cups refers to volume, not weight.  In other words, the fruit is sold in a 9 oz plastic cup.   It’s a very good price for something like cut-up pineapple, since the weight and volume are pretty much the same, but for something that took up lots of space and didn’t weigh much?  Not so good. I ended up buying a couple of packs of the $1.99 Green Giant shredded sweet carrot slaw – use the $1 coupons from the previous Big Book of Savings.  Everything else is crazy-high.

Lots of clearance Holiday items.  I took all the Twinings Pumpkin Spice Chai and Christmas tea for a dollar each.  No current coupons, but I have 60 days to hope!  They had quite a few of the candied fruits for baking ranging in price from 50¢ to $2 for what looked like quart sizes!  Scary colors, those things.  So I guess it’s once again CC PIZZA NIGHT!

PSA – Last day for CC pizza sale @ Jewel

CC pizzas are $3.99 through today – after that they go up a buck.  Use the $1 CC coupon in the 1/12   stacked with the 50¢ on the front page of the current Big Book of Savings for $2.49 pizzas.  If you have never tried them, CC frozen pizzas are the best frozen pizzas we’re ever eaten – – bar none.

Remember, if you don’t have your coupons now or are just too lazy to clip, you can always buy and post-redeem within 60 days of purchase.  And please, don’t say you have no room in the freezer, especially if you’re not removing the pizzas from those space-hogging boxes!

Jewel for cheap CC pizzas

Photo.jpg
Culinary Circe frozen pizzas are $3.99 through January 12th. There is a 50¢ store coupon on the front page of the new Big Book of Savings.  There will be a $1 manufacturer coupon in the 1/12 rp.  I bought 30 more of the BC Pumpkin Bar mixes for the overage and will return with more coupons and the pizza coupons (since I have 60 days to post-redeem).  If your store is marginal about post-redeeming coupons, then you can either pick up a Sunday paper on Saturday afternoon at any of the dollar stores or Menards, shop on Sunday with your home-delivered Sunday paper or order $1 coupons from Klip2Save, which says they’ll be out in the next morning’s mail.

Either way, a great way to stock up on fantastic pizzas for $2.49 each (these are probably our favorite frozen pizza).

out & about shopping during a heat wave

Photo.jpg

Hey, if you compare today’s 5º high to yesterday’s -17, the teenage white boys are gonna be wearing shorts!  Stopped off at Walgreens to see if the Colgate $1.50 RR was still working on the .75 oz travel size – it was!  While I read about this much earlier, there was no reason to face the elements for the possibility of a free tube of toothpaste.

Photo.jpg Stopped at Jewel for tortillas and naturally gravitated towards the clearance cart. Lots and lots of Planters nut mixes (chocolate, butter toffee & more) – there’s a $1/2 coupon in the 11/17 S. Also lots of Pringles holiday flavor chips like Pecan Pie and Cinnamon for 40¢ a can – use the $1/4 coupon from 1/5 rp2.  They pulled out another large load of the Betty Crocker Pumpkin Bars pouches for 25¢ – use the .75/2 from 12/15 S for overage.

My first thought on the Pringles Pecan Pie was that it was gonna be a total yuckfest.  I wanted the two cans of cinnamon, but some guy ahead of me grabbed them both – he didn’t have coupons so paid the full 40¢ price – sucker!  These are actually kinda cool-tasting!  And I shall probably grab a few more cans…

Jewel shopping…or was it Dominicks???

Photo.jpg

Bread, water and pizza – the shelves are all bare at my little Jewel!

But I was able to find a “few” deals…
Photo.jpg

The clearance cart was full of the Betty Crocker Pumpkin Bar pouches for 25¢ each – use the .75/2 coupon in the 12/15S, which gives you 25¢ overage on each set of two.  These are mostly going to the food pantry ’cause I kinda got a lot… The Pillsbury gingerbread cookie chub – value size – was only $1.  Use the $1 coupons in 12/8 S2 and 12/15 S for free cookies (or donate ’em).  Cinnamon imperials were 25¢.  Candy cane Tootsie Roll Pops were 50¢; we opened a bag to try ’em and they passed the PITA test.  EXTRA Root Beer Float dessert gum was 98¢ for the 3 pk – no current coupons, but I can hope for some in the next 60 days.  CC pizzas shelves were wiped out, but we found two; they’re on sale for $3.99 and the new Big Book of Savings has 50¢ coupons on the front page.

The Buddig Deli Cuts are also in the Big Book of Savings, showing BOGO through 1/28 with a single item price of $2.49.  Normally this would mean 2/$2.49, but they are ringing up at $4.99 (and the $2/2 coupon from 12/8S is ringing up as a buck!).  Since corporate has not issued any “We apologize…” printing errors to the store, they adjusted the price to $2.49 and I used the $2/2 coupon for 49¢ a pound lunch meat.  I will be the first to say that this is definitely a ymmv situation.

And this concludes my shopping day – got my free ream of paper at Staples, visited a closed library parking lot and then Jewel.

more free & money-making shopping

Photo.jpg

Remember that new $5/2 Almay coupon that just appeared? Well, use it at Walgreens with the new January IVC $2 coupon on the B1G1 50% off sale and you, too, will be suffering the pangs of “What to buy with my extra $$.”  In my case, I grabbed a few RR items, since I didn’t need anything and the clearance wasn’t.

$5.00 off any TWO (2) Almay Cosmetic Products $2.00 off select Dove Men+Care products $15.00 off any Nicorette Mini Lozenge 81ct $1.00 off any one mini Babybel cheese product $0.50 off ONE Pampers Wipes 56 ct or higher $1.50 off 20-pk. or larger Angel Soft bath tissue $1.50 off any LUBRIDERM product

The $15 Nicorette coupon has reset AND Target has issued a  so even without Cartwheel, you’ll be paying $1.49 for the $26.49 CQ patches .  Taking 10% off with Cartwheel…  This is their regular shelf price, so don’t worry about stock – you can wait.

Photo.jpg

Don’t forget about those wonderful $1/2 EE coupons from the 12/8 rp – the little cans of veggies are 50¢ each, which means…FREE!  The clearance cart had tons of holiday items, but I was mostly able to resist.  Mostly (mincemeat was $2 and the chocolate was $1).
