MUM needs our help!

Rachel (Mashupmom.com) just made the cut in a top 10 deal bloggers contest sponsored by SavingStar. She would be so grateful if you all could vote for me and pass it on to your social networks.  Gratitude expressed as a $100 gift card… Remember, she’s up against some very heavy hitters (and we ain’t talkin’ obese folks either)

So, as we say in Chicago, Vote Early – Vote Often…

Another Wags drifts over to the Dark Side (yay!)

Whether you are aware of this or not, Walgreens has a policy of shifting management from one store to another – great when you have a crank, but not so good when you’ve got an über-couponer working with you.  Having said that, maybe we can use this to our advantage…

The Wheaton store recently “lost” two asst mgrs (including their ExA, RIch), but I’m certain that the policies Steve has in place will continue with the two new members:  Michelle and Mark.  I’ve spoken briefly to Michelle on the phone and she was very upfront and knowledgeable about coupons.

Many of you may know Jackie from the Lisle store.  She recently made a voluntary transfer to a Bolingbrook store, where her only requirement during the interview was that she could really push coupons and all that that entails.  Here’s the email I just got from her:

Hi Chris,

Now that I am settled in at my new store could you add me to your list of coupon-friendly Walgreens in the area? We would really love the business and this is really a friendly store to shop at. The employees are great….. I have not encountered any you know whos there yet, haha. After my recent experience with disgraceful customer service at Target, I further understand the importance of shopping where you are welcome. Target flat out told me to go to Walmart. Ugh gross.

Here is our info-
Walgreens #9919
695 W Boughton Rd
Bolingbrook IL 60440
Ph: 630-771-1494

This is at the corner of Boughton and Whitewater right across the street from the Johanssen farms pumpkin patch. If people want to call to order anything, they can ask for me, and if I am not there, the manager on duty.

Thanks Chris!

Jackie

I’ve shopped this newer store…actually, it was this Wags where I found the last eight travel Degrees in Chicagoland during that MM.  One of the slowest stores in the district, let’s help them achieve some of those bragging-rights numbers, okay?

All the News that fits…

How about the weirdest laws on the globe, courtesy of International Business Times:

1.  In Samoa, it’s considered a crime to forget your wife’s birthday. well, i see nothing weird about that…

2.  In Paraguay, pistol dueling is legal as long as both parties are registered blood donors.

3.  In Australia, only licensed electricians may change a light bulb — failing to do so can result in a $10 fine.  So all you Chicago union-bashers can just stfu!

4.  In the United Kingdom, a pregnant woman can legally relieve herself anywhere she wants – even, if she so requests, in a policeman’s helmet. Yet it is illegal for a lady to eat chocolates in public transportation.  and they know this how?

5.  In France, it is against the law to sell dolls that do not have human faces. ???

6.  In Singapore, walking around your home nude can result in a $2,000 fine if caught or three months in prison. And it’s illegal to chew gum.  the gum part i already knew, but  what if you chew gum at home in the nude?

7.  In Italy, anyone considered “obese” is forbidden from wearing polyester. While in Capri, a ban on “noisy footwear” means you can get arrested for wearing flip flops.  i really can’t argue with the first part…although i’d also tack on corduroy

8.  In Switzerland, clothes may not be hung to dry and you cannot wash your car on a Sunday. It is also considered an offense to mow your lawn on a Sunday, because it causes too much noise.  sounds like they have a pretty stiff homeowners association

Visit Alaska! Meet Sarah Palin

…or not, as the case may be, now that she’s officially decided not to run for President because “her family comes first.”  and good luck with that ’cause from where I sit, your family values suck donkey …

But if you just wanna dream-plan a future vacation, order yourself some free Alaska travel guides.  I’d really like to go on an Alaskan cruise…

Steve Jobs 1955-2011

Horrible news and yet not completely unexpected.  I hope “his” company continues to beat the pants off the also-ran…what’s their name…oh, yeah, Microsoft.

All the news that fits…would you like fries with that?

All the news that fits… – pictures updated…i hope

Okay, I deleted all the photos and will try again.  Please let me know if you can all see these pictures now.

And I’ll end this evening on a high note, with an email I received from someone’s Dad…

Christina shops Wags for gum & eye candy

I’ve posted before some of the trials and tribulations of Christina – remember she of the no water?  Here’s her latest…

So, I had to share my gum experience and such… When I went on Friday, I had previewed my Wags ad and didn’t see much for this week, so I decided to burn some of the RR. I ‘needed’ a few things and some gum, of course. And, of course, you know this story is always going to be longer, because, well… it’s me!

I assume you guys got some weather on Thursday night, as I think we run a little similar in weather patterns. We had lots of places without power. Wags had a outage problem and they spent 2 hours reprogramming the computers. Then, I came in. I got my goodies and watched the register tick down. I had given 15 year old money for coffee, since school had a delay as well, and so I just grabbed my debit card for my $1.52 purchase. When I swiped it, I took the system back down.   Mind you, it has taken awhile to run ALL those coupons.  I know you know what I mean. She looks at me and I look at her and we burst out laughing.  There is no way I am going to make her rerun all this manually to pay with cash.  We decide I will come back later and grab my stuff.   It turns out the sale did ring all the way thru and I only needed to hand over my coupons. Bonus, as Hubs and I were both there and he may have just fallen over if he had to stand there and watch a ringing up of that magnitude. He is male and while patient, he is male.

Needless to say they are all getting to know me there.  The one manager (assistant???) that is a supreme asshole is gone, I believe. He has issues and has no business in management or perhaps even working with the general public. (Especially in the snooty area I live in. They eat you alive out here!) I won’t even deal with him, because he is so condescending. I have witnessed him arguing with so many customers.  On the flip side, the other managers are all awesome! I’ve never cleared a shelf (Minus the ‘Fruity Pepples’ for camping, back in the spring, and I spread the wealth around and covered all of them! And they didn’t ‘know’ me yet either.) So, that great news is that the manager that’s helped me the most lately, is so HOT!  Seriously!  It is making Wags my favorite store all over again! I happened upon another 32 of the coupons for gum and went last evening. He rang it thru and I gotta tell ya… HE made getting FREE gum sheer joy! He has figured out I am not paying for much or he is paying ME to take stuff off his hands.  He is the first one that seems to get it, yet he sees the value in his sales too. And did I mention that he is hot?! Skippity do dah!

Now that I have this huge patch of grass that’s currently dirt, I plan on building a friendly little graveyard on the side of the house. The neighbors aleady know we are batshit crazy and ran a bout with waterlessness, so they shouldn’t even bat an eye at this.  It IS Halloween soon, so this is good clean family fun!  (At least for our family…) The heads are currently being stipped of paint.  Giggle, giggle… I am sure some photos of the progress shall abound!

and we look forward to those photos….

Great week for inserts!

I held off on posting the fantastic number of inserts in today’s Tribune, mostly because I wasn’t certain what inserts were actually going to be in there:  There is (sadly) quite often a difference between store and delivered and distance from Chicago proper.  Here’s what showed up in my eight delivered papers, as shown left to right:  Moments to save (Pepsi products); P&G; redplum; Hasbro; GM; two Smart Source and Jewel (note the Jewel coupons are mostly store coupons and expire 10/15).  There is also a peelie on the Trib front page for FREE, small (16 oz) pumpkin iced coffee.
