Meijer sale preview

I’ve told you how much I like the Meijer Madness site ’cause of the great deals she posts, even if I have no use for them!  Remember how I always tell you to print out high value coupons in advance of sales?  Yeah, let’s all wait until the last minute so we can see that “print limit reached” message appear on our screens…Oh, right, you’ve never had that happen to you?!  and your check is in the mail..

Anywho, click here to print out two $3 coupons for Similac; there’s a sale acomin’ next week where you’ll be able to bring down the cost of a can of ready-mix to less than a buck.  Get as many computers as you can and print, print, print…  If you want to just click the coupons.com button on the right sidebar you can do that, too.  Sometimes it’s more profitable to scroll through all the pages, just to see what new coupons have appeared.

Meijer update $3.74

Just back from Meijer with a warning to always check your receipt!  Case in point:  Today there was an old guy in front of me buying just a few items, among them a loaf of bread.  When he sees the total he comments that the hamburger buns are supposed to be free when you buy a loaf of bread.  Cashier points out that he has the deluxe buns and not the hamburger buns.  He trots off to get the right one…again the cashier scans them and it doesn’t come off.  Wrong ones.  He says that these are the buns in the cardboard display with the bread!  I say get a manager to make them free because you have to pay more attention to what you’re putting in the display.  Now my turn.  Total comes to $6.34 for the items show here.  I knew it was a couple of bucks off, so asked and cashier said that the mPerks $2 had come off.  Took the receipt off to the side and scanned it.  Sure enough, the Purina cheez treats, marked on the shelf as $1.09, were actually ringing as $1.39.  Now, an ordinary shopper (certainly not us) would have purchased one or two of these and would never have noticed an extra .30 or so…  In my case, though, with eight it was apparent that an overcharge had been made.  So off to customer service and a return of my $2.60 ($2.40 + high tax).   Also, mPerks takes the place of a mfr coupon, so the post that talked about using paper and mPerks was incorrect.  This is why I always like to run the deals before posting…

Crappy weather out today, certainly not the day to grocery shop, but….I’ve seen this on a couple of boards, but haven’t yet checked it out:  the Taco Bell seasoning packets are on sale for .34 and coincidentally there is a Mealbox coupon for $1/3!  There is also a mPerks coupon for Milkbone Essentials which may tie in to their $2.50 sale price, don’t know yet, will check it out.  Combine that with the $1/1 from the 9/26 rp and should be more free dog stuff.  I’ve run out of computers to print the olive oil coupons, so right now I’m stuck with only 10 – not too many when you figure out I want them to last a year.  Remember, I like to stock up, not do the weekly stuff…

Meijer on 8 bucks – update with credit

Well, the sale on the Friskies treats was over, didn’t see any of the Purina chews, but was able to get 10 bottles of the olive oil and 10 packs of Mentos (hey, Rachel, don’t look now, but here’s your holiday present!) – can never have too much gum – then four packages of this gourmet-y chicken sausage and more friggin’ bananas.  What is it with this family?  Are they all nurturing their inner gorillas?  I was thinking that the sausage would have flavors like andouille (to add to my HC zesty gumbo), but I can substitute sundried tomato.  Actual OOP was $8.63.  And I still have to add that mPerks thing to my “shopping list” to get more cash back.

Very belated credit to Meijermadness whose sausage link this is.  She has a second link, but using that one makes you register and, more importantly, you don’t get any more coupons, so piss on ’em.

Meijer ahhhhhhhh! Update the 2nd

Update: Even though the mfr coupon (on the mfr website) reached its print limit, there is RIGHT NOW a $1/1 coupon on Smart Source print here. Print one, then return to the coupons and click and print again – no hitting the back key.  Again, the limit is two per computer.  Thanks for the timely heads up to Jennifer at Meijer Madness.  Her site rocks!  While you’re printing, might as well print out a couple of the GM cereals coupons…

God help me, I’m going back in!  Read on CW last night about free Pompeian olive oil starting next Thursday at Meijer.  (This showed up on a Sun-Sat store ad, so hope, hope, hope).  Sale price is $2.99 so stack the $2 Mealbox and $1 mfr (print limit reached) coupons.  Normally I’d wait to purchase before posting, but realized that since this deal depends entirely on online coupons, they might disappear before the sale actually starts in this area.  Print two per computer for the mfr coupons and unlimited prints for the Mealbox.  The Meijer link is to their Mealbox site; look to the right side and click the tab marked “specials,” which will bring up all their current coupons.

Meijers and other mishaps

Oh, Meijers, I am so over you now.  You lure customers in with promises of low prices and huge savings, all in a huge store.  Well, I decided to drive over to check out the Gain freebie, Purina dog freebie and the Friskies freebies.

Still out of the Purina, they did have quite a supply of the Bestlife spread – back up to the  $2.19 price – got 11 of the Friskies treats.  On to the Gain debacle…ran the deal three times:  3 gain each transaction.  First one went smoothly, but it was a damned STORE cat that printed out; I hadn’t read last night’s post clarifying this.  So used the cat to pay for the second transaction – which then didn’t produce a cat (rather like Wags).  Third transaction didn’t produce a cat, didn’t give me my mperks $2 coupon and the damned bananas were .10/lb more than at Ultra.  I did not realize until setting up the bottles for the photo that two of them are just slightly smaller (really slightly smaller), so even though they were all mixed in on the same shelf and marked as part of the same sale, their UPC must not produce the cat; also the mPerks needed to be added to my “shopping list” and then saved on my account.  Having it on my phone alone does no good.  Again, I don’t shop there often enough to know the little idiosyncrasies  involved.

Bottom line?  Had I known, I would never have driven there for cat treats; next time I’ll just get the small bottle for free at Wal Mart.  OOP ended up at $13.65.  On a positive note, however, I used my Discover card and got cash back (to use at Jewel and garage sales), so let them eat the service charge!  yes, i am petty and take my revenge where i can

Free big bottle Gain dish soap

I know I mentioned that the Sunday paper had an extra P&G insert with another $1/1 Gain coupon.  But don’t rush out and grab these just yet…there is a probable dealio coming up later this week where you can score the BIG bottles for free.  The bigger bottles also have more of a fragrance selection.  Update later when I have more info.  The exp date is 11/30, so no hurry…

Dinner

Tried out the breading – it rocks!  Dinner was sauteed salmon fillet, breaded catfish fillet and 5 massive chicken breasts (the poultry equivalent of Heidi Montag), all courtesy of Dominicks.  Actually, they were donated to us by a friend who came across the two 50% off fish packages and a .99/lb manager’s special on the chicken – and then used wine tags to pay!   Side dishes were GG steamed broccoli and a Zantarin rice combo.

So, what’re we talking about here for a total?  Maybe a buck?  For everything?  See, you can eat very, very healthy for very, very little cash.

By the way, the chicken is an incredibly golden color, which doesn’t seem to translate to the picture.

Meijers – sigh, again

Figured I had nothing to lose by checking out another Meijer, so headed over and lookie lookie what I got:  18 Fast Shakes; 11 Nivea lip balms; 6 Bakin’ Miracle, 2 Mentos and 3 dozen corn tortillas (for which I did not have coupons).  Total ended up at $2.99, which I first thought was high, but then realized that 1) damned lip balms and gum are high tax and 2) no coupons for the overpriced tortillas.  the cashier was flipped, though.

Boy, all this stuff better be good!  We’re trying the fry stuff on some catfish tonight…

Meijers Boughton Road today – $3.06

Learned a bit more about Meijer store policies…I already knew that if a shelf tag read “price drop” you were not able to get a rain check on that item.  Now I learned that only items appearing in the sale flyer are eligible for rain checks; which means all those 50% off sales popping up aren’t going to do you any good if/when they don’t have the item in stock.

Case in point, today:  No Bestlife buttery spread (don’t ask and I won’t tell), no pancake mix on shelf (associate found one case in back), no Nivea (although I could have gotten a rain check on these, didn’t bother) and only a few of the Frying’ Magic (or Bakin’ Miracle) breading mixes with the .75 peelies.  Also no Purina chew sticks (at .96 with a $4/4 mfr coupon).

Ended up getting 28 Mentos gum which is not even for me (Rachel, of Mashupmom infamy is an addict – hey, rachel, when did I turn into your bitch?  Oh, right, you will whine “But I never asked you to get them for me!”  Just kidding here folks, I love Rachel, she’s my bud (at least until she pays me back for the high tax) and this is not the forum to defend other sites/people.  Not likely that those worshippers with the Jill Cataldo home altars will be checking out deranged.me.

To recap:  28 Mentos ($1/1 q 10/3 S); 12 pancake mix ($.25/1 hangtag on 8 bottles and four $1/3 Meijer Mealbox coupons); 6 Fryin’ Magic ($.75 peelies and two $1/3 Meijer Mealbox).  Note that they still have a few boxes on the breading mix on the shelf, but these did not have the .75 peelies, so even at 50% off, it wasn’t that great a deal.  Using only Mealbox coupons you’d pay about .64/each box, less for each peelie you can find.

My total OOP was $3.06, of which $2.46 was tax; $2.36 was GUM TAX.  I consider gum part of a food group, why can’t the legislators?  Oh, right, if they had their way, they’d consider bread, milk and eggs as high tax items.  I honestly don’t mind paying high taxes since I know they will spend my money in a responsible and judicious manner. snort!

Many, many thanks to all those posters who contributed to these deals:  CW, The Coupon Artist, Meijer Madness.

Monday morning Meijers OOP $.60

Started off the day with my wonderful FREE Panera breakfast sandwich.  Then off to see what I could scrounge up at Meijer.  Sadly, they were out of the Bestlife buttery spread, but since I still have about 40 between the freezers and refrigerators, I can make it through the drought.  They were also out of the Purina chewy things (.96/each, get 4 for free), but again, got lots last week, so the dogs can wait.  Since I was there, I decided to check the selection of Nivea lip products, the same ones that are on sale at Wags this week for a buck.  Mostly the same selection, but they did have the Rejuvenation Q10 balms as part of the .99 deal.  Took 4.  Also grabbed another of the Good Start ready mix formula since it was $5 and I had another $5 coupon.  What I was really interested in, though, was the Fast Shake pancake mix.  It’s on a 50% off sale, so .49, but then there is a .25 hangtag on some of the containers.  Still not low enough for me, so I checked and there are $1/3 coupons on the Meijermealbox site (If you have never used this site before, the coupons are on the right hand side under specials.  Click and add to shopping list, then print).  So I ended up getting 9, used 6 hangtags and 3 MM coupons.  Note:  If you are unable to find any containers with hangtags, don’t despair:  using the MM coupons will reduce your cost to less than .50/3, an excellent price.)  Because the MM coupons are store coupons, they reduce the entire price, meaning less tax, so could only use 6 of the mfr coupons or I’d go into tax  (this is definitely “Danger Will Robinson” territory).  I ended up with .60 OOP, of which .45 was tax.  Don’t forget that while free is good, the tax’ll eat you alive.  Nivea products are obviously not food and, thus, are high tax – most of the tax I paid was on the Nivea.  Something to always remember when doing your deals.
