Duggars – Next Gen

OK, the newest big news from the TLC reality/whore channel is that the married son and his wife are having their second child after suffering a miscarriage last summer; their first child turned one last month.  Oh, and they also plan to leave the number of children they have in God’s hand…although if stuff stayed in the hand we wouldn’t be reading so much about the Duggars...just sayin’

They are part of the Quiverfull movement, where you are expected to produce as many litters children as possible so the Christians can overwhelm the heathen by sheer numbers. pah…

Jewel this week – PF Chang for under 2 bucks – Update

I’m gonna post as I see things and right now I’m not majorly impressed.  Don’t like these piddly little .50 off sales when you buy 10 items.  Makes no sense that the discount is the same on a .99 item as on a 4.99 one – but hey, I’m not a marketing genius…although I don’t think grocery chains are hiring the Einsteins of the marketing world, either  –  but I digress…

Check your Avenue card(s) to see just what’s lurking.  The past months have been horrible, mostly Shoppers Value 5 lb tubs of potato or pasta salad – so not what I want.  My cards now show one promising item, the PF Chang Home Menu Meals, with a $2.50 discount (limit 6) through midnight of November 16, so I plan to stack the $2/1 coupon (9/12 rp) and the buy 10 get .50 off.  If I get all 6 I can add four of the other sale items, look for applicable coupons and then pay the whole thing off with the RRs from the Sinex deal, which starts up again on the 14th!  shhhhhh, don’t tell anyone we’re eating free Chinese for the next few weeks! Cost per package:  $6.99 – .50 – 2.50 – 2 = 1.99 each.

Update the 2nd: The mixers have been pulled from three of my cards, only one of which was used today to purchase the mixers, but the CF Changs remain on all three.  Remember, we’re the dark side, so here’s what you do…Go to the Avenue site and register your Dominicks card(s).   The mixer deals will reappear on each, limit 8 but no PF Changs.  Use the card at SCOT. hehehehehehehe. As posted on CW, the Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers are on sale for $2.50 and on most Avenues for $2/1.  Stack them with the mfr q in 10/24 s and we’re talking either free or a .50 MM.  I know this is a love/hate product for many of you, but my PITA likes these, they’re easy and quick enough for her to make without whining and, did I mention…they’re free!

Cool mac stuff

Well, obviously everything mac is cool, but this is über cool: a leather case/cover for macbooks and ipads designed to look like you’re carrying a leather bound volume of the classics.  Read about this company (twelvesouth) recently, so checked out the site – warning:  this is Danger! Will Robinson territory for apple addicts.

Black Friday Ads

Since so many of you follow Black Friday deals, here’s a peek at some of the deals, courtesy of Black Friday Ads.  They’ve just posted the full 64-page Target insert.  Also note Radio Shack, Staples and Lowes are among the retailers with ads already posted.

Moi?  Too busy to even read them…I’m off now to pick up a few more last minute freebies at Jewel and then head over to Meijer to see if any of the milk came in or I’m getting more rain checks…I’ll post when I return (’cause I’m checking out some pizza deals while there).

Ooh, ooh, a giveaway! And the Winners are…..

I put all the names on a numbered list and had the PITA yell out a couple of numbers.  Can’t get more scientific than that, so take that you random number generator people!  I’ve sent emails out to the winners.  Again, congratulations.  I’m already planning the next giveaway.  A holiday present giveaway

Time to shill the product folks, Time to talk about some great pasta here.  I received a package from Dreamfields Pasta as part of their “Taste and Tell Team” campaign.  I agreed because we actually use and like this product.  Although we are all healthy, there is a history of diabetes on my DH’s side, so I attempt to CONTROL HIM err, excuse me, he grabbed the keyboard for a moment – moderate our pasta eating.  Dreamfields is great because it doesn’t taste like anything but pasta!  Believe me, that’s critical to getting your family to eat healthy – don’t let ’em know…

The two winners will be selected from all comments posted before 5 pm on Friday, November 12.  Each winner will receive 5 $1/1 coupons (exp. 7/31/12) and several recipe pamphlets.  I’m not looking for pitiful stories (been there, done that) so don’t start with the lies.  If you want to share a recipe or the way you prepare your pasta, well, that’s different – that we’d all like to hear.

In fact, why don’t you let me know if you’ve ever tried Dreamfields, if you use it now or even if you can’t stand the lousy taste of it and won’t let the name be whispered in your hearing!

Bacon lip balm anyone?

I admit to being on some strange-ass mailing lists.  Jones Soda company makes great sodas and poor business decisions (witness the tens of thousands of dollars I lost on their god-damned stock …. deep breath … deep breath ... happy thoughts).  I’m linking here to their site with some of the oddest soda flavors around:  Bring home the bacon; Whoopass and the ever-popular Tofurky and gravy.  I’m actually thinking of the bacon one for shits and giggles.  Just imagine putting the balm on your lips and having everyone think of breakfast.  Or the smell of the bacon popcorn.

Well, I posted about the Twinkie diet.  Maybe it’s time for a bacon one…

Cheap Trib Sunday paper

I’m gonna attempt some codes for deals on Sunday home delivery.  Obviously codes will change all the time – the only constant is that there will always be a deal.  The sites don’t show much difference between an O (the letter) and a 0 (number), so have them check it out both ways before you call it quits.  Remember, just because the success rate shows as 33% on something, doesn’t mean you won’t get it.  I tried one with a lower rate of success and shazam! it worked!

The main thing you have to remember is that you cannot order on line when combining codes – their system doesn’t allow it, so use the phone.  And don’t let the operator tell you that you can’t order more than one paper for each address.  If you get this nonsense, your choices are to either order one, then call back at a later time or hang up and try for someone else.   Go with the first option.  As of today’s date, the following codes show as active for the .50/week rate with the stated success rate in parens:  X277 (94%); X692 (100%); X573 (74%); 0bqj (new – not rated),

============ combine the top with one from the bottom on EASY PAY (where they split up the payment into two parts)

$25 Target gift card:  39 (33%);  Restaurant.com 25% gift card:  OKBV (100%).

As more codes become available I’ll update the post… If any readers have ones that have worked for them, please comment.

Meijer today

Checked out the non-stock of Smart Balance milk – then picked up two 12-count rain checks.  If they tell you that the default is 6, tell ’em you want two then.  They actually have these printed out under the counter, but for some reason are loathe to part with them.  I had a call from a reader who was told that she could only have one rain check for 2 and that the reader’s boyfriend could not have one “because they obviously came together!”  God grant me the serenity  to accept the things I cannot change and  the strength to not bitch slap that broad into tomorrow. amen

At Meijer today the cs guy said that they were out “because we’re obviously giving it away.”  I did mention a little thing like a $2 mfr coupon, but you cain’t fix stupid.

There is a national catalina running with Kellogg’s Pop Tarts:  buy 3 get 2.00; buy 4 get 3.00; buy 5 or more get 4.00 from 11/6 to 11/28.  There is a $1/3 coupon on the Kellogg’s site (you have to register for all their coupons) so printing two would bring you down to $4/6, or .66666 each box.  I’ve read that it’s a mfr catalina.

You’ll be pleased to know that the Bestlife Buttery Spread is back in stock and back down to .99 – unfortunately the $1 coupon has expired.  Coincidence?  I think not.  There is a current .50 coupon in 10/17 s (exp. 12/16) if you need it.  I, on the other hand, am busy stocking the Meijer warehouses…

Restaurant.com 80% off

Restaurant.com. Again mit the coupons?  If you haven’t bought these or used up a bunch in the last month or so (guilty!), here’s your chance to stock up for $2 for a $25 voucher.  Click on the link and check out all the details.  The code for this promo is “give.”  For more info, read earlier posts (yes, I’m too lazy to retype).

These are great deals – we use them all the time.  Since they never expire and you can keep them in gift certificate form if you can’t decide on a restaurant today, what’s the down side?  I’ve never found one…

Lose weight on the Twinkie diet

Saw this in the Trib, folks. You’d normally expect articles of this caliber in the Globe or something.  A professor of nutrition dropped 27 pounds stuffing his fat face with junk food.  Hmmm, this bakery box I’m plowing through, then, is actually part of a rigorous healthification program, starting with my yummy, gummy vitamins…Read the whole (short) article here:
