Groupon

Great, like they don’t already have more money than Bill Gates, now they’ve gone and bought the rights to April Fool’s Day!  Click this link to read Groupon’s latest acquisition, answer the quiz and download their patent application.

Almost as wrong as Warner Chappell purchasing the rights to Happy Birthday and demanding royalties…

wait, that really happened…April’s Fool’s

day trippin’

Off to visit mommy today, so stopped first at Bleeding Heart Bakery in Oak Park.  You remember, it was all due to that Groupon from months ago that I even tried this place.  In this case, the Groupon definitely worked, because I stopped without a coupon, they don’t take register rewards and I was forced to turn over large amount of US currency.  it’s that good.

Remember that Freezooka from a short while ago:  Big Fish?  Well, we decided to head on over there for a late lunch and made the short drive from Oak Park.  Most people, seeing the name “Big Fish” would assume that this was a seafood emporium, right?  This is where that ass u me saying comes in – it’s a Polish restaurant!  Yes, they have a number of fish items on the menu, but they also have pierogis and goulash.  and tiramisu.   and steaks. hmmm, maybe time for a name change…

Anyway, the food was really good, service was excellent and prices very reasonable – we took home lots of leftovers.  In case any of you have this $25 voucher in your Buyzooka account, here’s some pictures of the various dishes we enjoyed.

Enough people must read Chicago magazine, since they’ve been publishing a long time, so I figured I’d post this deal for a Chicago off-shoot.  Today’s Groupon is $6 for a two-year subscription to Chicago Home + Garden, a $12 value.  just so you know, there’s not the slightest chance of my Home +/or Garden being featured…

Deets:   Expires Jun 30, 2011. Limit 1 per person. Not valid until 3/29/11. Must activate subscription by 6/30/11, subscription expires 2 years from activation date. Online only. Valid toward extending current subscription. Tax and shipping included.

Lemon Tree Groupon

GOT MINE! I see some nice Groupons here today. The first is Lemon Tree Grocer in Downers Grove, where $15 buys you $30 worth of food in the Zest Café section.  I’ve checked out the menu, and believe you me, this is not your typical sandwich with chips café.  But here’s the kicker:  You also get a 20% discount on all your groceries!

Deets:  Expires Sep 29, 2011. Limit 1 per person. Limit 1 per visit. In-store only. Valid only for Cafe Menu. Must use in 1 visit.

Groupon the 3rd

Update: bought two. Ooh, I’m on this one like lint on a cheap suit!  The best deals today are all out in the suburbs and on the sidebar, like this one for Tamale Hut Cafe in North Riverside, where you get $30 worth of food for $15.  This Groupon is slightly different because you get a 5-meal punch card to use, not a bunch of vouchers.  I checked their menu, and the tamales are around two bucks (so $1 using this Groupon); they have other items like soup and a shredded chicken on tortilla thing.

Deets:  Expires Sep 28, 2011. Limit 2 per person, may buy 1 additional as gift. Limit 1 per table. Limit 1 per visit. Non-transferable.  how the devil would they know you were sharing punch cards?

Groupon the 2nd

Wow, Groupon’s on a roll today!  Another right sidebar deal is the $10 for $20 worth of Sicilian pastries at Palermo Bakery at either their Chicago or Franklin Park locations.

Deets:  Expires Sep 28, 2011. Limit 2 per person. Limit 1 per visit. Not valid for special orders. Not valid on 4/22 or 4/23. Must use in 1 visit, no cash back. Not valid with other offers.

Groupon

Since we have so few deal sites reporting in on the weekend, this is a nice surprise:  $5 for $10 worth of subs at Fontano’s Subs at two Naperville locations.

Deets:  Expires Sep 27, 2011;  Limit 2 per person, may buy 1 additional as a gift. Limit 1 per table. Limit 1 per visit. Valid only at listed location. Not valid for delivery. Must purchase 1 food item. Must use in 1 visit. Tax and gratuity not included. Not valid with other offers.
