Wholly Guac site

Sometimes I’m glad that I’m such a sucker for sign-ups…case in point is the hilarious Wholly Guacomole site where you can play games like Smash a Haas or the YouTube videos from the Get off the Ranch link.  Go here and waste some brain cells.  I also entered to win “stuff.”  I suggest you do the same – ’cause free stuff is good stuff ...

Free Starbucks? (well, almost)Deal is dead (sold out)

Even sadder note:  I was so busy setting up an account and calling people to let them know – – – I forgot to order my own card!  Boo hoo.  Well, there’s always another deal.

NOTE:  Site has been working hinky, off and on and crashing completely.  Now it’s back down, now up.  Just keep checking.

Jumping on the bandwagon here (albeit late) for such free stuff.  Click here for a $5 Starbucks card for only a (non-Starred) buck – sorry about the bad pun.  really.

Well, this is another one of those sites were you join up and they send you emails, etc. (like that cbs one where we all got the $10 in free gas).   Join, pay a buck and they will mail you the $5 card within two weeks.  Purchase limit of one per person…I sometimes suffer from the Sybil Syndrome – how about you?  Click here and drink cheap.  i think i did this right…need caffeine…

Kikkoman BOGOs

While surfing around Facebook (only for deals, I swear!), I ran across this great deal on two BOGO offers:  BOGO soy sauce/ponzu and BOGO soy sauce.  And just what the heck is ponzu you may well ask?  According to our beloved Wikki:

Ponzu is made by simmering mirin, rice vinegar, katsuobushi flakes, and seaweed (konbu) over medium heat. The liquid is then cooled, strained to remove the katsuobushi flakes, and finally the juice of one or more of the following citrus fruits is added: yuzu, sudachi, daidai, kabosu, or lemon.

Commercial ponzu is generally sold in glass bottles, which may have some sediment.

Ponzu shoyu and tuna steak.

Ponzu shoyu is traditionally used as a dressing for tataki (lightly grilled, then chopped meat or fish), and also as a dip for nabemono (one pot dishes) such as shabu shabu. It is used as a dip for sashimi. In the Kansai region, it is offered as a topping for takoyaki.

Sounds ideal for a springtime dressing.  Click here to get to the Kikkoman FB page and print two copies of each.  Note that you don’t have to do anything stupid like “liking” them or “friending” them.  Domo arigato, Kikkoman.

Kikkoman Corporation was founded in 1917, a combination of 8 family companies, some going back to 1603!  So you can see why advertising that boasts “since 1990” or even “since 1890” fails to sway me.

Wags once more…

Last  summer (mostly over the 4th of July extended week-end) I really, and I mean really, stocked up on the Celsius 4-pk green tea in both flavors (well, when you consider how much they were paying me to take it out of the store, what could I do but oblige them?).  I still remember how odd it was that one flavor rang up high tax and the other low…but as long as our tax dollars are being spent wisely, I have no problem with paying them…ahahahahaha, I crack myself up sometimes…

Well, Celsius is once again on sale for $3.99 with a $3 RR.  But I just couldn’t see paying a buck plus tax…sad, isn’t it?  So I learned earlier today that there is a pdf (!!!) coupon for a buck that’ll give you the stuff for the right price:  FREE!  Now my plate will really be filled with RR deals at Wags.  Thanks to CWer JRL for the link and info.

2010 Teacher’s Gifts

Every year your kid starts whining about Christmas gifts for the teachers, aides, therapists, drivers, pool boys (oh wait, that’s my list) and you immediately start wondering how you’re going to pay for all the stuff….did you ever think about shopping your stockpile?  with a twist?

For 2009 we put together “Depression Care Packages” which contained organic pasta sauce, pasta, paper towels, toilet paper, Nivea lip balm, shampoo and conditioner (especially funny for the bald guy), anyway, you get the idea.  We used a brown grocery bag and believe me, it was filled to the top.  People that somehow got left out were know to pout until I made more…

So this picture is this year’s gift:  The 2010 Sniffle Sacks for 12, just in time for the cold and flu season.  Each bag contains….well, you can see everything, right?  And I would hope you would remember the deal.  Except that the 3 bags of the teddy bear cookies are something I just kinda “lucked” into – 6 cartons of luck – …maybe I’ll have a giveaway

Wags II and SuperTarget – Update the 2nd

Apparently Target changed the price in their registers and quarts are now scanning at $5.99.  Not all shelf price tags were removed, though, so some readers were able to get them for the $1.20 price.  There is some concern that they might not honor the rain checks, but I can’t see that happening.  A computer glitch is one thing, but to advertise the price in all your stores with a shelf sign?  happy sledding with that one…  Odd how Target was able to so easily change the prices when it was not in their favor and three months was not sufficient to make changes when it was…

Got so excited about my beloved Greek yogurt I forgot to put in the link to Chobani, where you can print out coupons for .30 off the 6 oz size and .50 off the 32 oz size (print 2 times for each email but not on the same computer…hint, hint). Chobani

Heard about the almost-free Greek yogurt at Target, so I jumped on my broom and did a quick drive-by (stopped first to pick up the free Omega Factor 3 at Wags).

Wags…The free after RR Omega Factor 3 held no interest for me, until I heard about the $3 coupon inside!  woot!!  Ran in, grabbed a box and paid with a Sinex RR and .18.   Tomorrow I’ll hit a few more Wags and see how much cash I can generate.  I’m going to use clearance Christmas stuff as fillers, so I’ll keep rolling those Sinex RRs – should work out beautifully.

So here’s the dealio at Targét:  the Chobani 6 oz size of Greek yogurt is $1.20, the same price as the 32 oz size – guess which one I’m stocking up on.  Quarts come in two flavors:  vanilla and strawberry.  Unfortunately, they only had the two quarts pictured here.  Fortunately, it’s a regular sale, running through the 8th, and I was able to get rain checks for each flavor.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get as many as I wanted, since the register was putting a limit of 8 (don’t ask how I arrived at that number).  Fortunately, I was able to do multiple rain checks of 8.  and i won’t tell you how many i got…let’s just say i like yogurt and leave it at that.

My advice here?  Hie on over to Target and get as many of these as you can carry.  If they are out of stock, get as many rain checks as you can – they are good until February 18th.  I might actually go back for a couple of the 6 oz ones in pomegranate,  ’cause that one sounds yummy and then pick up a few more Goodlife recipe cat food single serving trays ($1/1 1/2 rp1) which will be free.

Wags

Slow day on the deals front.  Stopped by Wags to see if there were any Sinex lurking about (found four) and run a possible deal.  Wasn’t certain, but so it is…

Picked up my four Sinex using a rain check and 6 clearanced ($2.59/each) L’oreal Bare Naturale for lips.  Used four $4 Sinex coupons and 3 $5 L’oreal coupons (1/2 rp2).  Paid $6.02 OOP and got back $15 RR.  While I could have thrown in a Christmas clearance item for filler to use another RR, decided it just wasn’t worth it for me.  Note that the L’oreal coupons say for face cosmetic; aren’t your lips on your face?  Mine are.  The $1 Planters Nu-trition coupon was from a tearpad – it has a exp. of  9/12/2011, which is long enough that a damned fine deal had better come along to use it (well, it and its brothers).

Many thanks to brittneysmith on CW for the L’oreal deal.

Some freebies – Update

I’ve been trading emails with the clever folks at Cool Juice about their entry into the Chicago market.  Even though they are based in the southeast, turns out that they are very familiar with our area, having lived and/or had Chicago as a territory for other juiceries  (made-up word; just like how it sounds).  Good news is that they will be rolling into Chicago in February – bad news is they’re starting with Dominicks.  Well, high value coupons on quality juice blends is enough of a reason to run in and out.  and at least there’s always tons of parking spaces…

Just “liked” (god, I hate that stupid idea) a company called Cool Juice, which produces a 100% fruit juice blend in four flavors/colors.  I like the look of the blue one (blueberry, etc.), so first you like them on Facebook, then send a “shout out” email with your deets and they will mail you a coupon for a free 64 oz carton of your juice choice.  Free is always good – crummy “likes” and “shout outs” are not.  pah

A note here: This product is not yet available in the Chicago area; it seems to be spreading out from the southeastern states.  The stores that do sell it are Albertson,  Supertarget and CUB (all stores with affiliates in the Chicago area), so you have nothing to lose, since the coupon should be good for quite a while (unlike Sobe…)

Jewel – $1.97

Decided to burn through coupons and wts before expiration so ran a quick transaction at Jewel: 4 packs hot Italian Sausage (BOGO and $4 meat wts), 2 packs bratwurst (BOGO and $4 meat wt), 3 coffee ($4 wts), 20 lb bag white rice ($2 store q) and two Macaroni Grill (2 Free q’s).  Total was over $50, so used a “found” $5/50 cat and the previously mentioned coupons to bring my total down to $15.47, which I will admit is rather high…so I threw in a $10 RR from Sinex and a $3.50 RR from Chex Mix to end up at $1.97 OOP.

Let’s figure out the real cost here: the $13.50 in RRs cost me $7.95, so add that to the $1.97 and we’re at $9.92.  Pretty good way to start the week.

Wags .01 MM

Quickly, here…picked up four of the Finish no-phosphate detergents; I’ll get more inserts during the week and pick up more.  The Oscillococcinum (3 x quickly!) that’s generating the $9 RR is the children’s version, while the $5 IVC is for the adult version.  Tried it, beeped, no thanks.

Total, including tax, is $1.49/each transaction.  Get back $1.50 RR.
