Finally, free food returns to Jewel!

photo.JPGRight at this very moment, the insane cat machine at Walgreens is spitting out $5/$20 on EVERY order!  I picked up some rulers for 19¢ with in-ad coupon, paying 20¢ with high tax on each separate transaction.  It’s a store coupon and Jewel’s official coupon policy (as restated here on their Facebook page) allows their use – – it’s $4.80 worth of FREE GROCERIES!

Some Walgreens have even cheaper items, but I’m in the high rent district and have to make due with 20¢!

I would suggest grabbing lots of FREE items (with coupons) to get up to $20 in groceries and then use the $5 catalina for the overage items.  Osco has lots of 99¢ wet n wild products (nail polish, eye liner, lipstick) on which you can use either the $1 or $2/3 coupons in the 7/28 rp1.  Or you could stock up on free BIC pens using the $1 coupon from 8/04 S.  And if you use coupons on overage items, well, that’s just more overage!  I need more cosmetics like I need another flood, but there are lots of organizations that drool over this stuff – and I’m not talking about Boys Town, either…

Walgreens has Lysol products on sale this week at 2/$5 earn 500 loyalty points.  Use the $2/2 coupon in the Walgreens Cold and Flu booklet or the .50/2 wipes or .50/1 spray,  both in f8/4 S.  I would definitely recommend the Walgreens booklet because 1) it’s a higher value, duh 2) it’s a manufacturer coupon that can only be used at Walgreens and 3) it expires at the end of August, whereas the insert coupon extends for a few more days (and if it’s Ultra, another month).  I had a booklet come in the mail a week or so ago with additional loyalty point deals – Lysol was in there!  So I ended up earning 2,000 points for one transaction.  You’ll pay $1.50 a container, unless you get the 15% senior discount, in which case it’ll be $1.125 a container (plus high tax) and you’ll earn 50¢ in loyalty points on each set of two.

On to CVS for more vitamins.  Remember how I told you to print, print, print those Magic Coupon Machine $2 coupons last week?  Well, now it’s time to use those puppies!  The Naperville store only had three of the gummies (goddess forbid PITA be forced to swallow a pill!), so one was 1/2 price and the other a BOGO.  Ended up at $2.24 with .25 tax or $2.49 for all three.  I’ll check at a couple more stores before the end of the week because each bottles will last less than a month.

By the way, the new store manager is coming from a store in Aurora and is currently splitting his time between that store and Naperville.  If you know anything about a Sean (or Shawn?), please share, although so far I’ve only heard positives.

Lots of stores have BIC pens on sale this week, but I’m fond of overage, so I picked Jewel, with their 88¢ price stacked up against the $1 coupon in today’s 8/4 S.  Remember, it’s their official coupon policy to apply the overage to other cart items, so make sure you have something else – I’ve been stocking up on those Lightlife burgers so a little something to bring down the clearance cost even further was welcome.

Walgreens has an in-ad coupon for Gain dish detergent for 89¢ – the $2/2 coupon in 7/14 rp works beautifully here, with no beeps.  It helps that the bottle says detergent (in Spanish) on the front label.  And I’ll admit that the lavender Gain is my favorite dish soap, given the fact that I hate cleaning.  Again, you’ll have to throw something in the cart to eat up the slight overage on each bottle – I chose death by chocolate…

Free 8×10 collage @ Walgreens – today only

The latest collage deal at Walgreens is a one-day only freebie.   Use code DEAL8XTEN at checkout, choose store pick up and your 8×10 collage will be totally free.  Great way for William & Kate to save a few £s.

’cause free is good.

cheap TWIX bars @ Jewel!

Newest coupon today is the TWIX bar one – use it at Jewel this week for 25¢ candy bars! The $2 Glade scent holders will be 2/$5 with a $2 RR at Walgreens starting tomorrow – $1 MM!  Use your REACH RR plus a school item or Arizona tea (50¢ with in-ad coupon) for fillers and extend those RRs another week. And BOGO pop coupons are always good!

Greetings from BlogHer2013 – Day 1

Flickr was down last night for maintenance, so no pictures were loaded – here’s a couple from yesterday’s parties.  The first one was Toy Book, a two-level madhouse of both small and large toy companies.  I ended up spending 2 1/2 hours there and it wasn’t until Rachel got a text asking where I was that I realized I was supposed to be SocialLuxe with Jill!   The little robots were like an updated Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots – this time you use electronic controllers and each time you hit the head the light changes color – turns red and game over.  The MegaBlocks people made us build our own Hot Wheels racers and then race them – mine kept flipping over and crashing…must have been a defective one…

SocielLuxe is, for want of a better term, a pampering party.  The main sponsor was Cottonelle (remember my Fed-ex delivery?), who provided not only manicures, massages and henna tattoos, but also large swag bags containing the items shown here – we lugged the case of toilet paper back to my car and then walked to Pioneer Court for a snacky meal of mini-hamburgers, chicken wings, drinks and probably other stuff but we got there so late that that part was pretty much over.  It was hosted by Womensforum and Escalate Network and we spent about an hour+ snacking and talking with Escalate people.  It’s great to be able to finally meet the people with whom you interact on an almost-daily basis.

Carmex is regularly-priced at $1.69 at all the Walgreens around me – in downtown Chicago it’s not! Yes, the sale price of 5/$5 remains the same, but for someone picking up one or two items, yikes!  And the high tax is 9.25%.  Seriously!  Tax would be the deal killer!
photo.JPG

Resolution for next year’s convention is to make sure I schedule about 18 hours for each party – otherwise you just can’t do all, see all and meet all – and that’s the purpose of this whole convention, to meet and develop relationships with companies.  but we never turn down free stuff…

math update: moneymaker @ Walgreens with Carmex

Walgreens has a monthly Carmex deal:   Get 2,000 1,000 points when you buy 3.  Right now the small tubes and jars are $5/5. Use the $1 mfr coupon in the Walgreens cold and flu booklet and pay only high tax.  Great way to rebuild your points balance before the next RR round!
