I’ll go out and buy a lottery ticket…

Rachel needed MIO and I was happy to oblige. The MIO is on J4U at $2.49 with a store e-coupon for $1; limit 4. Use the $1 mfr coupon in the 6/9 S (exp. 7/7) to bring the price down to 49¢ each. Well, that’s how it worked in theory. You see here two orders totaling 12 bottles of MIO, two packs of pork country-style ribs, one thin sirloin steak and fourteen Zevia 6-packs natural soda. I had a $1 off Zevia on my J4U and mistakenly believed it was $1 off each. Nope! Zevia was on sale 3/$10 (a very decent price) and I used the $1.50 coupons from 5/12S.

Here’s the odd part: My total for all that was only $30. Granted I don’t like paying anything, but these numbers just don’t make sense. That total should be for pretty much the meat and MIO, so what happened to the Zevia? At times like these it’s best to just GET OUT OF DODGE!

Here’s shot of some inserts that happened to fall into my car…I’m gonna have to start driving with the windows closed!

And here’s where I was headed: Dominicks, for chips to go with my drinks! Yes, Dominicks has been rocking lately, and it’s worth driving a little further. I did not have the JFU deal on Lay’s chips, but I did have a 10% off the purchase of any chips, so that had to be enough. Right now these chips are $3.49 and BOGO. There is a double instant savings working in our favor on this: Buy 10 bags, pay the price of five bags and get an instant $5 + $5 savings. I spent $8 for ten bags of Lay’s Kettle Cooked chips and a container of sour cream.

Mix one full card of the tikka masala variety of the McCormick recipe inspirations into the sour cream; it is an absolutely addicting dip for plain chips and/or vegetables. You can even pretend it’s kind of a health food!

Dominicks for extreme hydration

You’re looking at 80 bottles of Ice Mountain sparkling water, six 12-packs of Schweppes ginger ale and a 20-pack of Coke.

Ice Mountain was free except for low tax, the Schweppes was $3.75 but if you bought 5 (or more), the price dropped to $2.75 and if you added it to your Just4U account, an additional $2 per pack came off (limit six). Coke was $5, nothing that fantastic, but FirstBorn constantly complains that PITA drinks his Coke (that he bought with his own money!. Total was $13.70.

Be careful if you are running the Schweppes ginger ale deal because the price did not drop to $2.75 after purchasing five and I had to go to customer service to get my cash back…

Dominicks for more water?

Along the way I hit up a few more Walgreens, looking for ground flaxmeal: Not one Walgreens I’ve visited has had any stock. A few didn’t even have shelf tags for them. Given the classic Walgreens scenario over the past five years, my guess is that the stuff was selling so well the warehouse decided to stop shipping stock and then corporate will discontinue it. ’cause it’s a twofer with them, dontchaknow…

Since I was passing a Dominicks anyway, stopped in to check out the Ice Mountain supply. Took the only 28 bottles they had…then got lured into the bakery black hole where I was forced to buy a clamshell of plain croissants and a loaf of cinnamon bread. Large displays in front for Arm & Hammer cat litter for $5, with $2 peelies on ’em. Since FirstBorn had just informed me that the cat needed more litter, I figured that this was a sign from the goddess of cheap (I am only her high priestess). They also had carts of ice cream pints near self-check, being marked for clearance. Obviously they had no Cherry Garcia or you would have seen that in the picture, too. Ended up spending $13.72 – stupid cat!

My first stop was to Jewel to pick up a few $1 Challenge butter coupons. This has been going on sale for $2.50 at Jewel; it’s a good butter, especially for $1.50! Exp. is 8/30, so plenty of time to hold for a sale.

Next stop was Walgreens, where I was looking for the ground flaxseed. Something we actually use and I’ve now been to three stores with nary a pouch. But there’s lots more Wags around…

This is a picture of the duck tape clearance at one of the Walgreens – the 75th Street store in Woodridge. New manager is our old friend from Wheaton, Steve! At least you know they’ll have RR products in stock!

Stopped at the Dominicks on 63rd to check out the Ice Mountain. No signs, nothing in the ad, but I’d read that it was actually on sale for 2/$1. I had them scan a bottle to confirm, then loaded up a cart. I’ll come back when they get another truckload, since I have those beautiful $1/2 coupons from 6/16 rp. Free water – in bottles (the only free kind I want to see, thankyouverymuch).

While there, I checked the freezers for $1 Frutare coupons – there they were in a little ole blinkie! I took a few and drove over to Ultra, where they are $3.50, unless you buy four, when they magically drop to $1.88 each. So my four boxes, less 5¢ for bringing my own bag, came to $3.60. The mango bars are awesome! Puny, but awesome! Can’t wait to try the banana and milk one.

Since I was hitting up Walgreens stores anyway, decided to pick up a few more of the roll deals (as pictured). I’m tired of cleaning products, so picked up a few Campbell’s pouch soups – had the coconut curry one a few months ago and it was super. One side of the roll was 12¢ – other was 45¢.

Make money buying Herdez salsa at Dominick’s, then make pozole

So Dominick’s has 7 oz cans of Herdez salsa for $.39 each when you load a JFU price this week (limit 8). Well, it’s foolish to pay for salsa, isn’t it? So here’s what you do. You load yourself that $.39 price. THEN, you use the $1.00/2 from the Corona booklet at Jewel or the $.55/1 printable on Coupons.com (ZIP 10001).

Now, you have yourself money making salsa. The coupons don’t beep. Make sure you have something else in your cart to absorb that overage, though.

And then if you buy the salsa verde, you can use it to make pozole. Isn’t that what you always have for Mother’s Day? It’s what we’re having…

Dominicks this evening

Originally went in for the Ziplocs, cat litter and McCormick spices, but found some great stuff on the clearance rack. The GOYA cilantro cooking base was $3.39, so 50% off that. I always seem to run out of cilantro, or it’s gone bad just when I start making tacos or rice. The germinated brown rice (GABA) was only 85¢ and it’s something I’d like to try. Sadly, my 100 boxes of Better Oats went into Hefty bags, so this was a deal for $1.25. Never heard of SWAI fish before, but at $5 for a 24 oz bag of individually frozen fillets, it’s got to be worth it. Another flood victim was our cinnamon, so naturally that’s the spice I picked. Arm & Hammer cat litter 20lb boxes are $5 for Friday, but you can add them to your card and the deal is good all weekend. The boxes have peelies for $4 MIR when you purchase two. So final cost will be $3 a box.

On the McCormick spices, clip the $2 in-ad coupon and add it to your J4F card. Since the sale is B2G1Free, you’ll end up with three for FREE if two bottles total $4 or less! The Ziplocs also have a coupon and an e-coupon and they’re on sale for $2.99. Total OOP here was $30.40. Subtract the $4 from the Arm & Hammer MIR and you’re at $26.40. While I don’t like spending money, this is all stuff we desperately need!!!

Wanted to check out a deal at Target. Inventory checker said it was in stock – it lied. I did see an entire end cap filled with Sheba 4-packs that had once again been reduced – now down to 80¢. Took 12 and lots left. Guess they assumed more people would be making senior gift baskets for the Holidays…

Since I was so bummed, decided to hit Dominicks for some comfort bakery goods. Remembered something Rachel had said earlier about Hillshire being BOGO and weird things happening with the clearance ones. So of course I had to try it!!

Seriously, do you even need to ask? Picked up four of the clearance Hillshire Turkey Breast and three Reser’s cole slaw (salads are still 99¢ through the 10th on J4U and the cole slaw rocks). Here’s a 55¢ coupon to get that Reser’s even cheaper (used mine last week).

Three cole slaws and four Hillshire packs came to…$3.01. Mind you, they rang me up at customer service, so this was no mistake by a cashier. I really like this store’s service and the way they treat me.

Added the $5/lb battered cod to my card, along with the McCormick spices and the Ziploc bags. The JFU ad coupons for both items came off, together with the ones on my card. The McCormick spices were part of a B2G1 sale. Had mfr coupons for both bags and spices. Total for all this pictured was about $31. and wait, another box of Snickers? how did I end up with all these? must be sleep-Snickering.

OMG! I spent $66 at Dominicks!

Every discount came off and every coupon was accepted! Now to run out for a lottery ticket. Bill included 16 Muller yogurts, 2 Yopa! yogurts, one Tidy Cats (got a rain check for 6 more), 11 Pepperidge Farm breads, six Gevalia coffee (you can add it to your card and get the $5 price through Sunday), six Fresh Express salad blends and one carton of ten apple strudels (which you will kindly ignore, please). Rachel asked me to pick up a Udi’s (well, it was more on the order of a dare), so instead I grabbed this unmarked Food for Life from the clearance freezer – – no price so they gave it to me for a buck! Ha! See you and raise you, MUM! oh, and i also picked up a few of these little coupon booklets to use on the Starbucks Frappuccino buy four get $4 off instantly. I have it on my JFU card(s) for $3.99. It’s worth $1.99 to me.
