Like anyone’s noticed, right? Well, I spent most of the day at the National Restaurant Association Show – eating lots of free food. which isn’t too much different than my usual practice, now that i come to think of it… Tomorrow is the last day and most of the exhibitors prefer to just donate or give away their products rather than pay the shipping expense.

I heard earlier today from a Walgreens employee who was upset over the planned move this fall to loyalty cards to replace the Register Rewards program. When Walgreens ran this program in test markets, it was very easy to see that those people earning points got the shaft when compared to the RR-earners.
So now we have a company whose management team has taken their geriatric customer base and forced them to go online for half the new sales ad, buy two items to get the best price (rather more product than they want) and now force them to use a loyalty card to buy those same items. Oh, but you earn points and can save up for valuable prizes! woot!
So toss all those ingredients into the retail pot, together with a huge helping of pissing match with Express Scripts and Medco and a milder than usual flu season and what do you have? Walgreens sales have tanked and honestly, I don’t know if our purchases will be enough to support them.
Readers have said that they’ve found the 5-ct Allegra at Walgreens for $6.99, plus there is apparently a non-advertised price of $4.14 on it at Kroger. Since it’s unadvertised, I can’t check if it’s also at Food4Less, but if anyone is heading over there, please check it out and report back. Also, some CVS locations are substituting other brands – I’ve personally experienced this during other sales because the manager didn’t like giving out rain checks.
If you’ve been having difficulty finding the 5-ct packs of Allegra at Walmart or CVS, Osco has them on sale for $5. make sure you have sufficient items for overage… ’nuff said… word to the wise and all that… Soft Soap is a buck a bottle…

PITA and I spent all afternoon clearing out expired inserts. March 31 was a big expiration date; I have a CouponTom widget on the right sidebar that magically tells you if there’s any coupons still extant. Just click the month, then the date on the next screen. You’ll see all the inserts and they’ll either be red (toss) or green (keep). If they’re still good, there will be a notation as to when the last coupon expires. We filled up a couple of recycling totes already – that’s the downside to getting lots of inserts you know!
aka The Mall! PITA was off from school, so we picked up some way-overpriced coffee at Caribou, a few chocolate bars at Fannie May and lost a few hours in Forever 21. Stylish clothing with incredibly cheap manufacturing – FAIL! I think the full corporate name is Forever 21 – minutes, ’cause that’s how long they’re good for. Then headed over to Kohl’s where PITA exchanged some birthday clothing for other clothing. Hit up customer service for the returns, behind a woman with so many returns they could not have fit comfortably in a Smart Car. Waited until PITA grew into the next size…
Day actually started off good with a call from Rachel about getting together for lunch. What? Get dressed before noon? Is she serious? Lunch was good – used a Groupon Now (I love the convenience of Groupon Now, since if you don’t use it you don’t pay! easy-peasy).
But I’m back – with a vengeance!
