Edit (wrong date!): Stockpile swap meet photos April 19th

Photo.jpg

Unbelievable as it may sound, the four bloggers in attendance ALL forgot to take photos! That’s how great the stockpile swap meet went last Saturday at the Lisle Library. And since I am a notoriously bad photographer (I can even make other people take bad pictures – – just look at my driver’s license if you want proof!).

The products pictured are those things that remained – mostly personal care items – which are the best things for the Lisle food pantry to receive, since most people never think to donate them!  There were at least 75 cans of Iams cat food, pet food is also something that doesn’t come in too often and a few jars of pasta sauce, which I don’t see in the picture.  These are very large Rubbermade carts – there is a lot of stuff here.

We’re talking about holding another event during summer, making sure it’s not the day before a holiday this time (although I don’t know that we could have handled much more traffic in the one room).

for those who said cancel home paper delivery on Easter

A very nice surprise when PITA brought in all the papers – she said it’s cereal! And I was soooo hoping it wasn’t anything like Frosted Mini Wheats or any variety of Bunches of Oats that we’ve kinda stocked up on. But no, they’re dark chocolate crunch Cheerios and Cinnamon Toast Crunch plus there’s a $1 coupon off ANY of a huge list of GM cereals and a 75¢ off the dark chocolate crunch Cheerios on the flip side.

MUM & .me Coupon and Stockpile Swap this Saturday – don’t forget

UntitledJoin the first Mashup Mom and deranged.me Coupon/Stockpile Swap Meet at the Lisle Public Library on Saturday, April 19th from 1-3.  Want or have baby coupons or just running low on peanut butter and hoping to swap for your extra jelly?  Stop on by and see what you can find.  If you are looking for/hoping to swap a lot of something, feel free to comment.

  • Bring one/take one – this isn’t a stockpile shopping trip!
  • Everyone should be able to leave with something new, but this is not speed-dating (who has households with stockpile husbands around here anyway?)
  • If you have lots of items, leave most in your car and just bring in a few samples or pictures – we know what you’re talking about and you can bring in the rest as needed
  • This is a caveat emptor meet:  Buyer Beware, meaning you check for expiration dates, etc. – kinda like Dominicks shopping used to be…
  • No selling is allowed at this event per Library rules. No money can change hands; bring items and coupons with the understanding that you’re giving them away to others. You won’t take home leftovers from this potluck, okay?
  • Remaining stockpile items will be donated to the Lisle Township Food Pantry, which serves residents of Lisle and unincorporated parts of Lisle, Naperville and Woodridge.  I’ve donated here for years and can vouch that they’re a very dedicated group of mostly volunteers who serve a very large number of households.

Mum(my) & me coupon/stockpile swap meet reminder!

Here’s a reminder about the meet on the 19th, but also a new message: I’ll be manning a table at the Lisle Library Maker Fare tomorrow, April 12th, from 10 to 2. While I am sneaky, I’m not crafty, so my purpose is to show people how they don’t have to cut the food budget to pay for their supplies at Michael’s! Planning on setting out a few freebie and money maker deals (Tide, Bounce Vidal Sassoon shampoos/conditioners, children’s Triaminic, Iams cat food) or even the really cheap Kashi cereal from Dollar Tree. Imagine bringing in the Whole Foods stuff! That’ll shut up those “You can only buy junk food with coupons” know-nothings!

Anyway, if you’re in the vicinity, stop in and say hi…at least I’ll have my laptop to keep me from being bored and since I almost live at the library anyway…

Lisle takes 2nd in State Scholastic Bowl

Photo.jpg

Just picked up PITA at the high school – after the Scholastic Bowl championship match the team went out to dinner and then a long bus ride back from Peoria. Either she’s getting a cold or hitting the sauce… But congratulations on an excellent job; getting to sit in on some of these sessions was scary…Barbie’s head was hurting from the questions!  and imho the other team wasn’t actually human…just sayin’

Goodwill shopping

Photo.jpgI’m not a Goodwill shopper, but only because they didn’t have any in stores (until recently) my neck of the woods.  My main shopping today was all about replacing my knitting needles and yarn which were tossed by The Drunken Sailor aka DH, who somehow believes aluminum needles can go bad…After Tuesday Morning and Walmart crapped out, someone suggested Goodwill, so off I went.

It’s a tough world out there for knitting needles, folks…If any of you have any leads on good yarns and/or needles, please let me know.  However, since I was at Goodwill anyway, I picked up this brand, spankin’ new pair of LLBean women’s pajamas.  LLBean is my favorite go-to for sleepwear ’cause it’s comfortable and lasts forever – but pricey.  Their pajamas and nightgowns run about $50…$4.99 at Goodwill.  Heck, I’d have paid that for a used pair!  Got PITA a pair of flannel sleep pants that say I ♥ NY, which she’ll flip over.
