Made a visit to this Oak Park store to see if they’re now complying with the official Wags coupon policy (click here). I spoke with Tim, an asst mgr (store manager wasn’t in), who was not aware that they are supposed to mark down coupons. He thought it might be a new policy, but I assured him it was not. He said that next time someone has a problem, that they should call for a manager – this obviously wouldn’t have helped with Grace’s situation, since the mgr and two clerks all refused to mark down her coupon. I strongly suggest that people print out the official policy and wave it like a flag until they back down. If they still refuse to follow the corporate policy, get the names and call corporate (1-800-925-4733, option 4 – if they don’t speak English, ask to speak to a supervisor) from the store. Because let’s face it, if a store feels they can go rogue on this, who know what other crap they’re pulling. I did pick up three cold Sobes, rolling my .99 Icy Hot RRs, so it wasn’t a total waste…
Walgreens is introducing fresh and ready-to-eat foods in limited stores; their plan is to
eventually have something similar to this in most locations. Look out 7-11. Why? Here are some pictures I took at the new Walgreens on Madison in south Oak Park (yes, my north Oak Park bias is showing). The first picture is of the entrance. Walgreens took an ancient building on the corner of Oak Park Avenue and Madison, gutted it and retained the charm of the original shell with the new entrance set back.
Know what this is in front? A charger for your electric car…
This is the view you get when you walk in the front entrance. See how bright, clean and spacious it looks? The selection of prepared foods is huge: cut up veggies and fruit in cups, perfect for kids in strollers or carseats; wraps, traditional sandwiches and fancy ones on tomato focacia; general tso and kung pao ready to nuke…

The prices are not set with paper tags, but instead use led displays, which can be changed with a small scanner-type device. Much faster, huh?
And the main thing: They had NO Crackerfuls; the service clerk was super-duper friendly and walked me all over and even went into the back to locate the one Icy-Hot remaining from their huge order of three. Yes, the three puny tubes arrived unexpectedly.

Awesome store! Wags in Morris had (I did say HAD) 3 Crackerfuls – they jumped right into my cart! The shelf tag said 2.00 with 2.00 rr and dated to start today (28th !) They rang up 2.00 – handed over 1 / 1.00 coupon and the wag 1$ off 2 coupon – so far soooo good. Wag coupon took off .50 — thought I had it made in the shade – then the 2.00 rr did not come out ! Manager gave me the form to send in to get the 2.00 rr for each box and a nice apology. Happy to get at least these 3 – FOR NOW.
wow, I want one of those new Wags! It looks awesome.
What the hell… A charger for your electric car? It takes 3 hours to charge an electric car with a 215v outlet. Is this just for show? But ya, it looks like an AM/PM.
I went there the other day since my kid goes to school over there. I had my toddler with me I was VERY upset by the fact the carts don’t have anywhere for the baby to sit. People in oak park have kids. I know they do. I used to live there. They have some of the nicest parks I have ever seen. Wth?
Ah…just picked my right guard up in wheaton…they have tons of icy hot and ecotrin!
Icy-Hot? They had nothing as of a day or so ago, so unless Steve was able to strong arm Yorkville…although he did mention that the Yorkville mgr was going to help him “take care” of his special orders… But to actually have them on the shelf?
Yeah! In the register rewards section in front…I was at the one on naperville road…
I was at Oakbrook Terrace and Lombard today, both had tons of Icy Hot…
We are getting a new Wags on the corner by my house (75th and Wehrli) and wouldn’t it be great we were getting one of these stores of the future?
Yep it would be!!!
Oh sure, send all the couponers to my wags! Lol the managers are always very nice there but the cart situation is a pain.
I was talking to Wheaton about how nice the store was (for a south Oak Park location-snark) and told him that people commented (read: bitched) that there are tons of kids around and no carts to accommodate babies! Richard actually lives in Oak Park (addresses upon payment – up front), so he’s familiar with the store and hopes that you all don’t desert his Wags.
Agree that it’s a beautiful store and the employees are nice, but they won’t adjust coupons down, in my experience at least.
Inasmuch as it’s Wags corporate coupon policy to adjust coupons down, maybe a roadtrip is in order. I’ll be back there within the week, so I’ll have a brief detour and possible educational briefing…
That would be great! Two different cashiers told me they couldn’t adjust the coupons and one of my friends had an email exchange with a store manager (Rick?) who told her adjusting the coupons was coupon fraud. Ugh.
Just got back from the Oak Park Wags where I had a conversation about adjusting down coupons with Tim, an asst manager. He was completely unaware that the Walgreens “official” coupon policy states that they do this, claiming that many times they are not aware of the new policies. I told him it was not a new policy and he should be ashamed of himself for not following this. I also told him that every person in that store should be aware of the latest Walgreens policies and the customer should not have to rely on the store manager to know the rules. PLEASE, make another trip specifically to use a coupon that has to be marked down and let me know what happens. Make sure you have a copy of the Walgreens coupon policy. If they continue with this nonsense, tell them you’ll call corporate. At least you’ll get a gift card out of it.
