CW Update – bumpity, bump, bump

THEY’RE BACK!!!!

Received the following email in the wee hours (Tazz is the administrator)

CW is having issues.  We are hoping that all will be cleared up by tomorrow at the latest.

We apologize for having the forum down for this long.

Our temporary forums is:

http://couponerswanted.freeforums.org

Please note, you will need to register to use this site. It is only temporary and will be shut down once CW is back to normal.

Thank you

Front page comes up, but you can’t access any posts because you are not logged in.  Can’t log in because it doesn’t recognize your name/password.  Enter email and it has no record of you.  i’m getting depressed…

I’m a Couponers Wanted addict – hi, Chris.  Having said that, it’s been down for a couple of days.  Like everyone else, when the 403 and 404 error came up I thought I’d done something really rotten and gotten banned.  Now, you have to understand that it would have to be really, really rotten to get the boot from CW, but still… Last night about 10:30 there was an update from the Administrator, which read as follows:

Unhappy CW has been compromised

In a big way. Will be down until tomorrow night. I put a request to my other hosting company for a redirect back to the forum that was here in March. So hopefully in a few hours it will redirect back to that one. If for some reason it sucks more than this rigged backdoor version, I’ll put this one back on, which I really don’t want to do.

My computer dude will be working on it.

I am really sorry that CW is down. I know people have been emailing me like crazy. I can’t access the cpanel to do a mass email to all the members to let them know.

Please keep checking with us. I’m more bummed than before.

Frankly, I’d be surprised if most of the posters hadn’t been “compromised” at some point in the past, but I digress.  I’ll bump up this post with updates.  Does caffeine ease withdrawal symptoms?

Cool Whip as creamer

This may not turn out like I had planned, OK?  In the first place, it doesn’t turn to liquid at room temperature.   so i nuked it! Nuking reduces the volume considerably, but you still have to stir it around to get out the air.  This stuff can’t be good for you (which doesn’t mean that I’ll stop using it, though).  So, now I’ve nuked two containers, stirred it down and added it to my coffee – not sweet enough!  Hmmm, must return to lab…

Although I would love to see my recycling guy’s face (and read his thoughts) when he sees 30 CC pizza boxes, tons of Sobe bottles and 15 empty Cool Whip containers.  Party on!

One other thing…I’ve gotten comments about the juxtaposition of the dog butts in the header with the OM Weinermobile post.  Which means there are people even sicker than me… who knew?

FDA food recalls

I signed up for email alerts from the FDA on all sorts of odd things, among them food safety issues (which is not odd).  Today I received recall notices on two cheese companies.  Read the short alerts and here. In the race to get things to market, common sense and food safety precautions seem to have been left behind.  Comments, anyone?

Tribune conflicting stories?

I’m sitting here reading the front page of the on-line Chicago Tribune and notice a stupid article on how the eat locally food movement is hurting the big farms (read conglomerates)!  Yeah, stupid, like I said.  Slightly over is a link to a story on a German conglomerate that falsified origination information on honey they export here – it’s actually from China.  Does anyone else see the irony here? If you purchase honey from a local bee keeper, it’s not likely the bees are vacationing elsewhere; same with produce from a farmer’s market (although I do like my traveling bananas).  I don’t see what the big deal is with buying stuff in season – can anyone honestly claim to like January tomatoes?

Unless and until I win the lottery (send winning numbers here before the drawing) and can set up a nice greenhouse, I’ll stick with peaches in the summer.

Groupon Oddities

Why I keep looking at these “deals” I don’t know – maybe for the wtf value?  Today’s deal is for a two-month gym membership for $70, which is suuuch a good deal because it includes the usual $79(!) monthly fee and a $25 termination fee (double !!).   Seems like every gym membership I see has monthly rates for around $35 with no contracts or termination fees.   Maybe I should just post the daily Groupon under a Today’s Laugh Riot category.

Cuisinart query

I “bought” (OK, it was free) a Cuisinart SmartPower Duet blender/food processor at a garage sale a few weeks ago.  I was told that the light went on, but nothing else happened.  It belonged to a family member who told them it was still under warranty.  Since they were moving out of state, they didn’t want to be bothered.

Now the dilemma…Apparently, Cuisinart doesn’t have local authorized repair facilities like most other manufacturers. The booklet indicated a three year warranty, so I called the toll free number and learned that the serial number on the machine indicated that it had been shipped from their warehouse three years AND TWO MONTHS earlier.  Since I didn’t have an original receipt showing a later date, they chose to use that one.  Their warranty assumes that not only did a product instantly transport to a particular store (or store warehouse), Cuisinart makes such incredibly in-demand products that they fly off the shelves.   I know that some people keep receipts for everything they’ve ever purchased, but honestly, if asked to product a receipt for a small appliance purchased years ago, would you be able to?  If the answer is “yes,” don’t bother to comment.  Only naysayers, please.

My feeling is that any warranties should include potential time in transit and sitting in inventory, but the customer service rep did not agree.  Her suggestion was that I send it in for repair and wait for the postcard to see what the charges might be and then authorize them or not.

It looks perfectly new (everything is untouched), I opened up the device and saw nothing untoward inside, there is no electrical smell, nothing.  They sell for about $75-80 new, which would probably be what they’d like to sock me for repairs.   So…….any suggestions here?

After a hard night of drinking, my preference would be White Castle, but then what do I know?  Thanks to my friend, Rachel, at Mashupmom.com for the info.  Rachel, stop watching this trash!
