Inserts storage

Since there’s an interest, here’s a quick peek at my storage center (it’s neat right now).  I have five totes:  bottom is for 50+ bundled inserts; bottom through top is in ascending chronological order.  Each tote has pendaflex folders, front section for ss and back for rp.  When the top tote gets too full, it’s time to transfer on down the line (not as time-consuming as it seems, since basically, the penultimate tote just gets tossed).  P&G and GM remain in the top tote.  A plastic basket on top for all the loose stuff (cats, tearpads, inserts to be filed, etc.) and that’s it!  Coupon booklets (like those from Doms and Jewel) are filed with AY in a plastic magazine holder, which sits on a shelf.

Buyzooka today

Granted, I don’t need a place like this, but I’ve heard nice things about it.  Today’s Buyzooka is for LEGOLAND in Schaumburg:  $9 admission (normal$19/adult or $15/child).  I waited to post this until the buy was actually “ON” and now it is.  The voucher expires 11/19/2010, which is not as long as I’d like it, but still will take care of all those vacation days aka school improvement days.  Surprisingly honest about schools improving when students are not in attendance…

Now accepting orders on WIDE LOAD printed sweatpants

or, why the hell did I buy all these Sweet Moments brownies (oh, yeah, I love chocolate)…

First of all the Con Agra catalina is still running as of a few minutes ago.  Plenty of HC soup – unfortunately, it’s at the new sale price of $2.  crap!  The Del Monte catalina is still on, but the veggies have jumped from .89 to $2.  double crap!  I was able to score 5 more of the Wesson oil for $2.50 and I saw stacks of Sparkle and Angel Soft for the $5.99 price; Folgers had gone up a buck to $7.99.

Picked up all the brownie stuff you see here for FREE!  well except for DAMNED TAXES!  Run seven of the Sweet Moments; sale price is $3.75 and preferred price is $2.50.  (7 x 2.5 = 17.50, less $10 Con Agra cat, less 1 $1.50 printable (DH was unable to print, so limit may have been reached) and 6 $1 coupons from 9/12 GM insert).  Final cost is .31 and 2 $5 cats spit out.  Earned another 3 pot stamps.  One more thing…go searching through coupons.com for any additional coupons you might need; I printed out a bunch of the $1/1 (now .65/1) Cinnamon Toast Crunch coupons since this should make them free (and I used up most of our cereal on the Panera breakfast sandwich deal).

And I’m only mildly joking about the sweatpants…

Insert storage

I get a lot of inserts.  Lots.  and lots.  Some weeks I’ve ended up with 70 or 80, so I know inserts.  The problem with having a Dominicks (well, one of them, anyway) is that since they take coupons expired back a year, I have a tendency to KEEP THEM ALL.  This is a stupid mindset because 1) it’s not likely that I won’t have sufficient coupons from current inserts and 2) they take up a lot of space.  So I’ve hit on a compromise:  Keep 6 months’ worth of general inserts and the last 2 months of P&G.

Spent the morning culling and filling those bags that make the recycling guy hate me so.  My cut-off was 4/18 inserts, close enough to 6 months that I won’t get panicky.  Just remember not to let coupons take over your life.  If you miss a deal, there’s always another one.  Just like a streetcar (thought I was gonna say man, didn’t you?).

Buyzooka freebie

Gots me some stuff to do (finding space in the basement:  rather like rearranging the chairs on the Titanic, you know?), so I give you the daily Buyzooka, a free Halloween cookie.  This must be a big ole cookie, ’cause the value is 3 bucks! Ouch!  reminds me that the GM catalina is running at Jewel (think Betty Crocker cookie mixes).

Today’s Groupon

Today’s deal is for the DuPage Children’s Museum in Naperville. I’ve been here once or twice and it was pretty cool, so if you don’t have access to a FREE pass via your local library, this is the next best thing. The deal is on and there are limited passes available – don’t put it off thinking you’ve got lots of time.  I just wish they would stop with the stupid “humor” at the bottom of the deal pages – plug over –

Trib big bad wolf story of the day

The Chicago Trib today trotted out this old chestnut about the “science” involved in planning supermarket designs – big whoop here, peeps!  Advice like: never shop hungry or tired; companies pay extra for the premium eye-level shelf slots; shop when the kids are in school; get through the check-out area as quickly as possible to avoid temptation (and what, just leave my 100 Aquapods?)  This article is new thinking?  Puhleez…

I always want to get through the check-out as quickly as possible.  It’s not likely that I’ll get lured to the dark side of chocolate because I’m waiting on another customer – I’m too busy making sure all my coupons and cats are ready to go and that each transaction is in the right order on the belt.  Any of you just standing there with your thumb up your ass (to keep you from grabbing candy, I suppose)?  didn’t think so.  Well, read and decide for yourselves.

Adieu Con Agra – Hello GM

Whew!  This Con Agra deal is killing me!  I ran two transactions:

1.  Seven OR popcorn, six cans Del Monte diced tomatoes w/ chilies and two 5 lb tubs of Papa Charlie’s Italian Beef.  This beef is selling for $12.99, so using the BOGO and $5 printables brought it down to $7.99 for 10 pounds of what the cs woman said is a great-tasting beef.  Should appeal to the family carnivores.  Del Monte produced a $2 cat.

2.  Assorted frozen crap to make my son and daughter (and, let’s be honest, my husband, too) shut up.

Total OOP on #1 was $1.40.  I used two $10 Con Agra cats and the printables.  OOP on #2 was .82 after a $10 cat and the $2 Del Monte cat.  I was going to bring in more coupons, but total’s already gone down faster than a crack ho.  Ended up with 2 $10 cats and four stickers for pots, so you could say transaction #1 was actually $11.40 (since I used up one of my cats).

Did you register with Papa Charlies?  Where else can you get 10 pounds of Italian Beef?  If you’re waiting to win the 780 smart quiz (with its Buona Beef catering package), your family’s gonna be  r  e  a  l skinny.

Tomorrow the GM cat deal starts (actually, it’s reported to be working already) and there are quite a few double dips.  Will post more tomorrow.  Also have to check out the Gain catalina at Meijer to make certain the the large size bottle of dish soap will be FREE.

Papa Charlie’s Cheap Meat

Well who the hell doesn’t like cheap meat!  And I’m not talking 3 am booty call, either.

Go to Papa Charlies and register.  Simple info and valid email.  They immediately send you a confirmation email, you click and wham! $5 q.  The instructions tell you to save it as a pdf file and print as many as you’d like. No shit!  Rumor hath it that they will be sending out another coupon (BOGO?) later this week to all registered users.  So do it now!

Jewel takes printables up to $5, so you’re good to go.  Even if you get a BOGO printable for a product selling for more than $5, it’s still good because it requires the purchase of the first product, so it’s not free.  This distinction is in the Jewel rules, which confuses some cashiers.  Any questions, clear with cs first.  Or after, if you feel like having a screaming hissy fit in the store.  your call…

And tremendous thanks for OP at CW

Restaurant.com 70% sale through 10/17

Restaurant.com. …this one’s a clunker, as far as I’m concerned (especially since I spent like a drunken sailor on the last couple of deals), but if you are looking for a specific restaurant, it’s not a dreadful price.  Sometimes you have to spend money (as a Jewel mgr told me), although I feel grossly put upon when that happens.  Enter the promo code “SWEET.”

Wonder if the people coming up with the code names are related to the folks who name the OPI polishes?  Interesting what a couple of six-packs will produce..
