Freezooka today

This Buyzooka deal is a $20 voucher mailed to you (within 10-14 days) that can be applied to a massage or facial.  I checked out their prices and they’re legit, not artificially inflated to make the voucher useless.   They have A LOT of locations in this area (11 total).

Voucher is good through 1/31/2011 and may not be combined with any other offer.   Limit one per email address/client.  New clients only.  They have special rates for first time customers; don’t know if those will apply with the voucher (I’d say, yes, and then argue like hell if they say no – but that’s me).

Bottom line, the voucher’s free!  If they give you grief about anything when you call for an appointment, you don’t use it!  easy-peasy dealio.  Hurry, ’cause free goes fast…

And speaking of Unilever…

Just got an email from Lipton (a Unilever product), asking me to subscribe to their Tea & Health Club newsletter.  It’s free and I hope it gives me high value coupons.  A girl can dream, can’t she?  Anyway, click here and register.  Youse gots nothing to lose…

Today’s Groupon

Handyman Groupon! Well, that’s what I’d call it, anyway. Two hours of handyman-type stuff for $69. Think about all the little crap around your house that needs fixing but you just can’t seem to find the time, or you don’t have the right tools, etc. You know the excuses, ahem, completely justifiable reasons…  Click on the link and check it out.  They seem to cover an awful lot of the Chicago metropolitan and suburban areas

Wags Freebies 10/31 –

We’re covered for body wash for some time to come and next week’s deals at Wags are a yawn (at least to me).  In a couple of weeks there will be some cough/cold freebies that I’ll definitely take home.  First is ZarBee’s, an all-natural cough syrup.  The package talks about honey blends, etc. which I like, since I often give the PITA a large spoonful of honey (get it?  ZarBEE‘s?) when she’s got that dry cough spasm going.  Don’t like using overkill mainstream cough syrups, so I’m looking forward to this one.  Print out two of the ZarBee’s here, pay $3 and get $6 RR.  Also, the Ricola will be free when you stack the Wags .50/1 coupon in their November booklet with the $1/2 in the 10/17 ss.  Not sure if Ricola really works – maybe I just like the commercials.  All together? Riiiiicolllaaaaaa.  Much thanks to iheartwags.

We’re baaaack (with our serious topic of the day)

Finally!  Don’t know how long it’ll last, but my regular speeds are right where they should be…so here’s my serious topic of the day:  Keeping important documents.

So many “experts” tell us that we should toss most paperwork, keep certain documents for 7 years (tax returns), others forever (real property documents), etc., so many different types and times to remember.  My advice?  Keep it all, but stored neatly.  With most of our records being sent electronically and not printed out, there’s a good chance we’ll screw ourselves down the road.  Case in point:  I am looking to resolve a situation concerning possible/probable failure on the part of an insurance company to properly adjust a claim.  No problem, usually, except that this happened in 1998.  Why wait so long?  It only came to light within the past week and here’s the kicker:  there was no way to know this earlier. The problem:  The original agency merged into another agency; original insurance company merged into another, and new company has no record of my ever being a policy owner.  So here’s where keeping documents comes into play.  I have the original paperwork regarding the claim:  they have no record of this number, since the new format does not link into the old format; they have no record of the claims adjuster; there is nothing in any of the new company’s records that tie my name/property address/claim to any of their records and their records do not indicate that the subsidiary of the prior insurance was ever part of that company!  However, I also have an insurance bill in my files from the company, giving my name, address, policy number and subsidiary handling the insurance.   It shows the agency which handled the policy and ID number.

Now I wish to stress that at no time has the new insurance company refused to help me; on the contrary, they’ve been extraordinarily helpful, contacting various offices, department, etc. to find some concrete evidence that I existed, but, even with all my info, they are having a difficult time finding anything in their records. And I’ve spent at least 3 hours on the phone.

So what do you think my chances would have been without my papers?  Thanks for calling, there’s nothing in our records that indicates you were ever a policyholder?  Yeah, that would pretty much be it.

Bye, bye for tonight

AT&T is performing “maintenance in our area” which is tech-speak for “your internet is fucked today, possibly tomorrow morning and the afternoon ain’t lookin’ so good, either.”  Seriously?  It’s so slow that I can’t get the speed test to work!  So slow that Comcast is starting to look good (nah, only joshing on that).  Having said this, I’m taking off for the next couple of hours and will test the waters, so to speak, after that.  Thank god I’m a reader!!

Sneak peek at my basement

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.  I won’t show you the beverage basement side, but how’s about some soup?  See, when I read those ads about the survival kits being sold for mega bux, I think…..why don’t I just stock up on canned stuff?  As long as I have a bunch of can openers, I’m set for anything:  gots me tons of liquids (your choice of flavors and brands) and CBAD (whole grain goodness!!) and soup, soup, soup, soup…

Now, I can almost hear you say:  But you don’t have the flavors I like!  And no dessert!  Not to worry; see another set of shelves.  Also note the Wesson oil for trading purposes and fire starters after 2012 (this is sarcasm, peeps)…

Today’s (tonight’s?) Groupon

Groupon This appeared in my inbox about an hour ago.  Ignore the daily deal and look to the right sidebar.  Halfway down is an offer for a $23 MVP haircut at Sports Clips for $5.  Read the description of what’s offered and the listed locations carefully:  only the four locations listed (same franchise owner) are offering this deal.  Laugh at the comments from the functional illiterates who are angry they bought vouchers they can’t use.  Hysterical!  That said, there’s one in Glen Ellyn and one in Elmhurst.

Jewel

OK, this is freaky.  I posted this Jewel entry just after the Wags one.  Went to Dominicks and when I return it’s vanished!  So I have to remember all this stuff now.  clear out my brainbox of all the vampires and werewolves and fill it back up with dealios.  concentrate, concentrate, concentrate…I ran three transactions, but one was the GG vegetables, so no picture ’cause it’s boring.  First transaction was for 6 BC brownie mixes and 4 frosting cans.  Total was $18.32; paid with 3 $5 GM cats and change – got back $13 in cats (there’s a double dip working).  Second transaction was for 8 BC muffin mixes, assorted flavors.  Used 8 .50 coupons from the latest GM insert and $10 in GM cats; got back $10, so OOP was $2.28.

I know I’m spending lots of money here, but brownies are great comfort food and the muffins will be made into coffee cakes throughout the winter (so will probably pick up a few more boxes before Thursday).

Jewel or Home Again

Got the call “Your vitamins are in.”  Oooh, my gummy sweethearts…  Since I was there anyway, picked up a few extra things.  Subtotal?  $227.  (as the PITA says, like that’s gonna happen)  after coupons…$22.25.  Found a $1.50 cat for Robitussin and saw them on clearance for $1.62 (11/11 exp).  Used a $8 off $80 cat.  Used two of the GM cats…down to $12.25 BUT I still have $6 in coupons for the clearanced Cesar dog treats (check your local stores – they’re free w/ $2 q 10/3 RP) and another couple of bucks for the Scooby-Doo Rogurt (for my friend at the puppy place).  Got back the $10 for the GM product and I’ll end up OOP a couple of bucks.

And 21 more pot stamps.

Some of my most favorite Jewel people were working tonight – glad to see their social life is as jumping as mine…
