You’ll be pleased to know that the Lisle Jewel not only went through every VISA card in stock (under $100s are still hanging there – pah), they pulled out a box of variable amount ones, then realized that these had never been intended for sale at Jewel at all! See? If you guys hadn’t helped clean out stock for them, more stuff would just be sitting around taking up space. Seriously, though, people drove in from miles around – seriously far distances, but as I told one person, this is a job and you are commuting to this job. The fact that you are getting paid $500 an hour for a job you do standing up and fully dressed is a bonus!
While the deal is still “officially” running, check Lisle off the list of participating stores. They have now printed out and posted the Jewel policy on gift card purchases and decided that the debit cards we were buying are considered gift cards. In point of fact, this is really a non-issue, because the only cards they have left are the variable Amex ones and $25 and $50 VISA. And while you could use the Amex ones, you’d have to wait a few hours after activation before the funds were actually available…which would make for a very slow and painful deal scenario.
Also mark off 75th and Naper as well as the Danada Square one. The one on Washington still works.
Thanks for the update on this money maker. Wonder if it would make sense to use my Discover card to buy another $500 to earn the Jewel cats…It’s not like you can’t use the damned thing to pay for school fees and other nasty charges that we are forced to pay…
makes ‘cents’ to me!
Is AMEX part of this deal? I thought I read AMEX was excluded in the cat deal. I suppose I could just get up off my rear and check it out for myself…LOL!! I was able to score one card last night, due to the Algonquin store on 62 limiting the amount of Visa’s to one per person (ughhh limits…). The cashier was nice and told me to come back in the a.m. to get another one. So, I did 🙂 Got my rumpus out of bed at 5:15 a.m., quick fed the puppers, and ran to Jewel. Got there before the customer service manager too…who had a BAD attitude about the whole thing. She insisted this was “illegal” and “hoped they would shut it down before the day’s end.” REALLY? She insisted she only had a $100 Visa left.
How one earth can this be “illegal” as she suggests? I would love to break out some lawyer jargon on her, but alas, I know none 🙁
Were this illegal, they’d have a bus running in the parking lot to transport the entire deranged.me Team Olympics. Yeah, I don’t recommend Amex because it puts a hold on actual usage and the cats may or may not print AND it’s not as convenient to use to buy things ’cause not as many businesses accept Amex (even if they do spend a fortune on advertising). Having said all that, why the hell am I even pushing Amex cards?! Forget about them and stick with the pitiful little $100 VISA MMs.
LOL!!! Go Team deranged.me!!! No lie, I wanted to tell her she was just bitter b/c she didn’t realize the deal that was in front of her, but I’m better than that….ughhh darn me being nice.
Sweetie, use this phrase as your mantra: You cain’t fix stupid!
cross off Batavia on Randall and West Chicago on 38; one manager had the memo hot off the presses to not allow the roll, he’s not stupid but only giggled when I suggested what I could do for his store sales – display empty but the inside had lots so bought 2 on different credit cards, our 3 trucks guzzle gas $100 a time(!) and its just a different form of payment!
may go do it again!! and Washington isn’t far from the office!! road trip
The Jewel in Highland Park shut me down by way of just taking all the gift cards remaining off the rack in the middle of my transactions. At least I got 4 out of them! And that had been the 3rd store I went to this morning so I made some moolah! Thanks for this heads up.
Just wondering if Lisle Jewel is still enforcing one cat per person per day to redeem them. I just have 10 of these from yesterday and wondering if I should stick to one or can do multiple?
Don’t know. I’m about to head on over there now. Keep think I should buy another gift card with my Discover card…hate throwing money away and it’s not like the card won’t be used on bills I’m paying anyway, right?
Thank you!
Chris, it was great meeting you yesterday at Lisle!
And I was able to put a bunch of cats onto my Jewel card all at once there this morning. Hope that helps!
Were you able to redeem the cats for a gift card?
Lisa, I was able to put all my cats onto two gift cards. Ymmv, but I can’t see an issue with a few at a time…at different stores…
That’s good news. I feel bad if anyone wasn’t able to redeem onto a gc. I was lucky enough to be able to do it almost all at one store. Except now there are people name calling and complaining about those of us that did this deal numerous times and how unethical it was..
Wanted to ask, is it possible to have a hard time redeeming all these cats for a Jewel gift card? I didn’t get the chance today yet, but will go back later to try.
Ughh hard time???? YES! I had a hard time redeeming last night!! The cashier looked at me like I was nuts for trying to redeem them. She told me “I don’t know how to do that.”
UGHHHHH – You cain’t fix stupid!!!! (LMAO!!!)
guess it depends on the store, was at 2 different stores, at the first she couldn’t remember how to do it to a zero balance card I had so got another one but there was no issue moving the cats to the card at either store
Just got $640 redeemed in Jewel gc’s at the store in Mundelein. Woot.
Some stores are keeping the “$20-$500” cards at the service desk to make sure the buyers use only cash or regular credit cards to purchase them, so if it’s a “first” purchase and you don’t see them on the rack, they may be at CS.
