Jewel – – shopping on the cheap

Paid $9.39 for all these items. PITA “found” two $1 OYNOs, which cut the cost somewhat and I used a 70¢ coupon for the cat food.  Don’t forget that I ended up with a $4 cat, too, so you could calculate it at $5.39 if you’d like.

Note to anyone placing special orders:  This is an Osco order, not Jewel, which means they don’t get deliveries but a couple of times a week.  The Lisle store places their orders on Sunday at noon, so anyone using them will have to keep that in mind.  Other locations you should find out the cut-off day/time.

HOT! Jewel MM!

Since it’s a national promotion, that same $4 RR that’s printing on the Fiber Choice 10 ct tubes is working at Jewel/Osco, where the regular shelf price on these at my Jewel is $2.49, so a $1.51 MM on each transaction.  Lots of filler items to choose from in the 10/$10 sale.  Or how about buying your SO a bouquet of roses?  One rose at a time?

Promotion runs through the 15th, so plenty of time to place your special orders (except I wouldn’t drag my feet on a MM!)

B2G1 DiGiorno coupons to print for Dominicks & Jewel

Dominicks has DiGiorno pizzas for $3.88 each, starting Thursday – Jewel has them for $5. But Jewel has a Buy 2 DiGiorno pizzas and two 2L Cokes and save $2 instantly. Too bad it’s a limit 1 per transaction.  With Jewel and one coupon, you’ll be paying about $11 for three pizzas and two Cokes, which might be enough of a deal for you – your call.  Note:  The first IP is scheduled to disappear on 1/31, so don’t put off printing.

Buy 2 Large DIGIORNO Pizzas, Get any ONE free

You can also print another buy two get one free here and/or use the B2G1 coupon from the 1/27 rp.

Stay(low cost, not) free at Jewel/Osco

Jewel/Osco has Stayfree or Carefree pads B2G1 Free.  Use the Stayfree BOGO coupon from 1/6 S 1 to run the deal this way:

Buy in sets of six – you will pay for one and get the other five FREE!  Stayfree runs about $3.69 a pack, so 62¢ a pack.  Obviously we like free at Wags or CVS, but Jewel has stock and your purchase goes towards fuel rewards.

This deal has actually been running for a few weeks, but only sporadically advertised.

Shell gas fill-up

Desperately needed gas – little light was on – so pulled up to Shell to use my Jewel Fuel Rewards.

Not as cheap as I’d like, but since there haven’t been any Jewel deals lately, I’ll take it.  What’s the largest discount you guys have gotten lately?

shopping for free

Wait, isn’t that what we’re supposed to do?  Anyway, here’s some deal tripping from today:

Walmart has the Purina cat food boxes for $2.98, so free after the coupon in today’s red plum.  Since this is a manufacturer’s coupon, the buyer is expected to pay tax – – except for me, I guess. Both cashier and supervisor said “don’t worry about it.”  sorry rachel, but you know i’m lucky…  I did not see this product at Jewel.

Jewel has the good ‘n natural bars, too, so if you can’t find them at CVS or Walgreens (or if you just don’t want to bother), head over to Jewel, where I found the cranberry/almond and peanut butter flavors for $1.19.  And since the FREE coupon from the 1/6 rp2 goes up to $1.50…

Walgreens is back to flipping Register Rewards this week.  The Estroven Nighttime and Mangodrin are both on sale for $10 with a $10 RR.  Start off that roll with the $10 RR from  the Brainstrong deals of two weeks ago.  Note, each of these items is low tax (I paid 18¢ each), so your actual OOP will be insignificant.  There is a $2 Estroven coupon in the Walgreen Vitamin and Supplement book, but it specifically says multipurpose Estroven (the yellow box).  Frankly?  Those registers are a pain when you’re buying the exact same product as on the coupon, so I didn’t even bother.  Sometimes it’s easier to just flip between one product and the next without worrying about filler items.  Again, I don’t think it will fly and I’d rather have them think I was an honest couponer.

The Lipton tea is $1 with a $1 Register Reward.  I splurged and bought THREE, using one of my $3 RRs from the engergy shots of two weeks ago.  This was the RR that spun off on one side of that transaction, so it’s not like I actually paid for it.  And we were thirsty.  No coupons out there.

Jewel has NOT changed coupon policy

Contrary to all the uproar about shifting coupon policies with new owners, you have to remember that this purchase has just been announced, certainly nowhere near finalized.  This means that the Official Coupon Policy released by Jewel corporate last summer is still the one we follow.  JEWEL COUPON POLICY 6:2012 – The DiGiorno Buy2Get1 IP is completely allowed under that policy (“WE DO NOT accept internet coupons for free product offers which do not require a qualifying purchase (“Buy one get one free” is allowable”).

If you think there’s a chance a Jewel will give you grief, download, print and carry the policy with your coupons.  While there is no guarantee they’ll accept your copy, I just can’t imagine them denying you – I mean, this is Jewel, not Dominicks, right?

edit – Jewel 4-day specials

Not near a Tony’s Finer Foods?  Head over to Jewel for their 4-day sale, January 10-13, where one of the promotions is Kellogg’s Special K cereals, bars and crisps for $1.88 each – limit four.  Coupons in 12/09 rp and 1/06 rp1.  Use those coupons combined with the following IPs for an even better deal.

Minute Maid juice is $1.99 – Limit 2 and Pepsi 24-pk is $4.99.  Not the greatest prices, especially since there are no coupons out there, but if you live and die for Pepsi…

The following IPs were listed as being on ANY Kelloggs, but they are NOT and the specific cereals do not include Special K.  If you are buying other Kellogg cereals any way, the links are still active to print.  grrrrrrr

$1.00 off Yogurt & any TWO Kellogg’s Cereals
1.00 off Fruit and any TWO Kellogg’s Cereals

update with pix! Check for clearance meat deals

Since most people are planning fancy-schmancy dinners at home or even – gasp! – eating out, you should find incredible deals on things with short shelf lives.  I got a tremendous number of packages of chicken for very little money (well, okay, it was free with overage).  Perdue drumsticks were $1.50/lb, Jewel thighs were 99¢/lb, Perdue split breasts were $1.50.

Right now I have two meals going on:  The slow cooker is full of rice and an entire package of thighs.  I also added one bag of fresh carrots/broccoli.  Let it simmer on low all night and you can have a hearty soup or thicken the liquid, place biscuits on top and put in the oven for chicken casserole.

Second meal is a family pack of thighs in a dutch oven on the stove, with water and a couple of onions.  This will cook on low until I go up to bed, then be brought out again tomorrow for another hour or two.  This should be fall off the bone tender by then, perfect for tacos or quesadillas or chicken salad – – anything that requires tender chicken.  Since it takes so long to cook (compared with the finished taco!), I like to make as much chicken as possible and know that we won’t have to turn to that last-minute staple:  Frozen Pizza!  oh, like your house is any different…

Jewel for Bailey’s for the year-end…(that is, year 2015!)

Picked up 62 of the Bailey’s creamers (special order – small for me!). Since the OYNO were having issues generating on purchases of over eight, I just broke them down!  Remember, they freeze well, long expiration dates and, as Suzann said, these can be used for liquids in french toast and cake mixes.
