Burger King to Acquire Popeyes?

According to a Reuters exclusive, Restaurant Brands International, the parent company of Burger King and Tim Horton, has approached Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Inc (PLKI.O) about a possible acquisition,  Sources asked not to be identified because the matter is confidential. Noodles & Co. to close 55 restaurants

Noodles and Company announcs that they will go public.

Noodle & Co. will be closing 55 of its under-performing locations and slow new openings – that’s over 10%!  To help boost sales, the company will also replace two slower selling items on its menu with a Thai green curry shrimp dish and an Adobo pork or chicken dish. Instead of offering meat as an add-on, the company will now list menu items with protein to boost the average purchase price.  Read more here.

New Shamrock Shake variations roll out

fast-food-4Participating McDonald’s restaurants are rolling out five different variations of the Shamrock Shake this week.

The McCafé menu will feature the original Shamrock Shake, a Chocolate Shamrock Shake, a Shamrock Chocolate Chip Frappé, a Shamrock Hot Chocolate and a Shamrock Mocha.  Read more here.

No Pants Subway Ride This Sunday – don’t hold the train for me…

On Sunday, pantsless peeps in more than 30 cities worldwide will take part in the No Pants Subway Ride first held in 2002 in NYC.  In Chicago, it begins at noon in the parking garage at 1210 W Arthur Ave (by the CTA Loyola station) where you’ll doff your duds before hopping the Red Line.  Girly parts and dangling bits must be covered, although at 22° I doubt anything will be dangling….

Cuisinart blade recall – mine was one!

rivetsCuisinart has issued a voluntary recall for models with the food processor riveted blade shown above.  Loooong list of affected models (including mine), so click and check it out.  They will ship a replacement blade and ask that you stop using your current blade immediately, as they had reports of lacerations from cracking blades. Very easy to check and submit online for the replacement blade (or you could call).

Now that we have your contact information, Cuisinart will send you a free replacement blade. When you receive your replacement blade, use the packing materials that your replacement blade arrived in to safely dispose of your original blade.

Please note that the other portions of the food processor, including the bowl, housing base and motor are not subject to this recall.

Latest cheery reports out (after the wood pulp cheese stories) seem to indicate that what we’re buying as aloe vera…ain’t.  “Samples of store-brand aloe gel purchased at national retailers Wal-Mart, Target and CVS showed no indication of the plant in various lab tests.”  Read the Bloomberg article here.
