Wags and the non-Motrin PM deal

Just got off the phone with Steve.  Apparently corporate pulled the entire campaign (which explains why it didn’t show up in the ad or with Catalina).  Wheaton ordered well over 500 of these from the warehouse months ago, to avoid a non-delivery problem like the last time.  Lisle has been frantically ordering them every week but to date nothing has shown up, which leads us to believe that there is, once again, a problem getting product from the manufacturer.  If the warehouse has been out of inventory for the past month or two, Wags was just trying to prevent another Crackerfuls SNAFU.

Bottom line, though, is that anyone who ordered coupons (include me in this group) is screwed.  And no, I’m not happy… Lumene appears to be on track (and in transit) for delivery this week.

    • I’ve actually made the comment several times that the Warehouse Manager is probably getting kickbacks from CVS. This is the only explanation I can come up with for such a turnaround in their availability of stock. I know that lots of stores don’t want the RR products to begin with (too much work), but the stores that did order were able to get sufficient stock – NOT NO MO’.

      • Maybe it’s cuz Steve is ordering it all… hear me out. If he ordered 500 where normally, say, 10 stores would each order 50, and the warehouse is stocked with 500-600 of the things, bam, gone. If their storage patterns are based on an average number of orders per store but then a couple of stores throw that way out of whack, they’re not prepared?

        • Your scenario would only play out if Steve had ordered this within the past couple of weeks. He was told by corporate months ago that there was this big Motrin PM promotion coming at the end of July, so naturally he ordered a large amount. The warehouse would have had plenty of time to replace this and get more product in stock. Steve feels that this was once again a manufacturer delivery failure and Wags pulled the campaign rather than risk the bad relations engendered by the Crackerfuls, Motrin PM earlier this year and the REACH toothbrushes, all of which were heavily promoted and crashed and burned.

          • Sure, but how long DOES it take? Let’s go back to CVS. Sometimes their shelves are empty for _two months_ when I’ve had a rain check for something, and my guy’s told the warehouse is out of stock. Well, if it works the same at Wags, they may not have replenished his order from a while back. Sheer conjecture, but just a thought.

  1. how much longer does the buyer and warehouse need to get prepared??

and how many times are they gonna disappoint store managers who like these deals too, and couponers before we get the hint that they don’t wanna play, we don’t place these orders, before it hits the chain’s bottom line…they’re gonna need some of that Cottonelle
