seasoned fries @ McDonalds?

From USA Today.  To read the entire article, click here.  Apparently this concept started in Hong Kong about ten years ago.

On Thursday, the same day McDonald’s announced that domestic sales were flat in April, the company confirmed to USA TODAY that it will begin testing seasoned fries — dubbed Shakin’ Flavor Fries — on Friday in the Northern California and St. Louis markets.

The seasonings: Garlic Parmesan, Zesty Ranch and Spicy Buffalo. But here’s the rub: You don’t buy the fries pre-seasoned. Instead, they come with special packets of seasoning that consumers are advised to open, pour and shake into a specially made mixing bag. Imprinted on the bags: “Seasoned fries. Shake your taste buds.”

  1. My friend and I were in St Louis on Wednesday for a concert and while walking around the city, received a free sample of this on the street from McDonald’s employees along with coupons for free fries and McNuggets. Our overnight Megabus back to Chicago later stopped at a rest area that had a MCD’s so we bought some fries. The instructions said the packets were for a medium but the seasoning was way too much for a medium size.. my friend had gotten Ranch and we thought it was kinda gross. I had the Garlic Parmesan and it was decent but tbh, both tasted like you were eating crouton flavored fries or something. Definitely not something I would pay extra for!

    • So this is like McDonald’s New Coke then. Definitely have NO interest in trying them now. Maybe they give you free fires and then you need to buy a LARGE drink to wash away the aftertaste and since soda is almost pure profit…

  2. This sounds like Bart Simpsons shaking cheese fries that Burger King did…. gross.

Have you tried Steak & Shakes seasoned fries? Garlic parmesan is delicious and surprisingly so is Sea Salt & Vinegar. Worth the extra money to eat better than McDonald’s fast food. Even if their drinks cost more than $1.
