Mired at Meijer

Ugh.  Since I was spending the day at my mom’s in Oak Park anyway, decided to check out the newest Meijer in Melrose Park.  Open just a couple of weeks, I figured they would have the stock that seems to be missing from all the other locations.  and yet not.

First of all, this is not a super Meijer; more a mini-Meijer.  And again, no Skippy peanut butter at all.  Avocados were 3/$2, a great price; unfortunately they were small enough to string and wear as costume jewelry.  Green grapes for $1.99/lb?  Hello, but Jewel had them for what, $1.28/lb?  And even my mother pointed out that the turnovers (you enter through produce and bakery) were much more expensive than Dominicks.  So all you people pushing carts filled with plastic bags – you’ve been robbed!

And my mother thanked me for making her go, since she can now forget about it entirely.

  1. Hey! I stopped there yesterday too! First time, went to look for skippy…walked out with some tasty looking strawberries and a nice fresh spring roll. Meijer is a nice store and all… But it blows that it looks like their stock will be weak!

    • And strangely enough, the strawberries were the ONLY thing in the store my mother liked; they looked fresh and the price was right. She compared Meijer’s produce to Caputo’s – Meijer’s lost, hands-down.

  2. The only redeeming thing about meijer is their mperks e-coupons…right now you can actually STACK them w/manu q’s and store q’s which can give you some sweet overage…so far no cashier has adjusted it down yet…last night got major overage on the disney vitamins..it was great!

  3. yes – totally completely bummed that this one and the one they are planning even nearer to me (will be in Berwyn) are these little Meijer Juniors. SUCKS. I want a huge sprawling suburban Meijer closer! Pout, pout.
