PSA: Keep those inserts close by…

Photo.jpg

Lately I’ve been keeping the March P&G inserts in the car, since I’ve been running into so many clearance items at Walgreens:  This Vidal Sassoon gel, various brand hair colors, many styling products, all vastly reduced and just waiting to be rescued for the price of a coupon.  In this case the stuff wasn’t free, but I hadn’t seen it before on clearance and I was in an expensive Walgreens (the Vidal Sassoon mousse pump I bought for $1.19 was $2.39 here!).

Dollar Tree & Walgreens

Photo.jpgThe Dollar Tree on Ogden/Naper is now out of Triaminic (well, to clarify, it wasn’t before I stopped in) and had no got2b products.  However, PITA spotted a line of LYFE Kitchen frozen dinners that retail for about $6.  LYFE is rebranding to Luvo, and there are $1.50 printables for them…but since there is no way that you’d beat a buck a box even if the coupon read LYFE…we took them all.  If you’re looking for cheap peanut butter, DT has the cherry chocolate flavor, which is probably the only one actually edible (and quite edible at that!).  Use this $1.00 off two PLANTERS Nuts or Peanut Butter and you’ll pay 50¢ a jar.  My OOP was just over $17.  Very good deals.

Photo.jpgThe Walgreens down the street is usually a crapshoot, since they limit you to one of each RR item even if it’s 9 pm on Saturday night.  Whatever, that’s the store manager’s call and I respect it…just won’t shop there!  But the Triscuit offer ($4/2 and 3,000 points with $15 purchase) was too good to pass up, especially with a $1 printable.  While there I spotted the natural instincts hair colors for $1.99 and “luckily” had the March P&G inserts in the car – – it contains $2 coupons.  Total OOP here was $8.82  and I got my 3,00 bonus points.

insert happy dance here!

and yet more Wags clearance…

Photo.jpg

I’m not kidding about clearance items lately! Use the Vidal Sassoon $2 styling product coupon from the March P&G on the $1.19 foaming air mousse for free stuff. The other Fructis items were from the high rent district – $2.37 & $2.66, but the $2 coupon whipped them into line.

If you need more coupons, use this $1.00 off GARNIER FRUCTIS Shampoo & Conditioner.  It says shampoo & conditioner, but the products showing are the styling ones…at least I’ve never seen shampoo in those containers!

Check Walgreens for clearance!

Photo.jpgYesterday I was at a completely different Walgreens, way outside my circle of influence and found the clearance section was not an endcap, but on a set of shelves near the back of the store.  On it were lots and lots of the high-end supplements all 75% off with dates into mid-2015!

Today I stopped at Lisle and found lots of Fructis styling products, most of them in the $2.37-$2.66 range, so great with that $2 coupon from 3/2 rp!  You won’t get overage with these coupons, but these were still free.. good enough for me!  Saw lots of Vidal Sassoon shampoo and conditioner – the large sizes – for $3.39, so if you need lots of product and only have a few coupons, check out your local store.  This is now the third Walgreens I’ve been in over the past week with huge sales – they can’t all be having resets!

Side note:  The Horizon milk at Walgreens is 50¢ cheaper than Jewel!

rolling cats along the Walgreens River

Photo.jpg The first transaction was for one $3 toothpaste paying with a $1.50 printable; got back a $2 RR.  Second and third transactions used the same $1.50 printable plus the $2 RR from the prior transaction plus a 50¢ filler.  In this case I used the in-ad coupon for ACT microwave popcorn for 25¢ which isn’t in the picture because it’s already been dropped at PITA’s high school, since we’ve switched to popping caveman style (on the stove!) here at home.

There is a $1 coupon in the 3/9 S, which will give you FREE toothpaste, less applicable filler or you can use this $1.50 off any Colgate Optic White toothpaste – it scans fine, so follow your own moral compass.

Butterfingers: .63/4 after coupons & tax

Photo.jpg

Forgot to post this yesterday: The Butterfingers are on a cardboard display marked 3/$2 with a tear pad attached with 55¢ coupons.  They ring up (or did yesterday) at 2/$1.98, so make sure it’s right before you enter a coupon!  My four bars & cups – as you can see – set me back 63¢  And I only took four coupons!!!

Almay at Walgreens

Photo.jpg

Total OOP was over $10!! But since these are high-tax items (and not the cheap clearance stuff either), you’re looking at just under three bucks in tax…

Here’s the post from earlier today with the coupon link:

$5.00 off any two Almay Cosmetic ProductsWalgreens has Almay on sale this week for B1G1 50% off plus there’s a $2 off in the March IVC book and now this $5.00 off any two Almay Cosmetic Products has just appeared (beats the $4/2 insert coupon).  If you can’t score some freebies with this one – – you are not trying! Remember, it’s two prints per computer. Enjoy!

Walgreens yesterday – RRs with points

The insync natural probiotic on sale for $10 with $10 RR has a $2 coupon inside.  I’d read this much earlier, but these boxes are sealed with heavy clear tape that rips if you try to remove it, so I didn’t post it – – get caught doing this one time and you will be pretty much banned from all stores in that district (they talk you know!).

Well, yesterday I picked up one box and took it off the shelf (they had lots) and a coupon flew out of the box as I put it in the cart!  Apparently the coupon is inserted on the non-taped side and slides out easy as pie!  So, while I was planning on another deal, I ended up picking up each box for $10 less the 15% senior discount, $2 coupon and 5,000 points for a total of $1.65 a box.  I’d forgotten about that Senior Day and was pretty much freaked out that only three shoppers had neither canes nor walkers.

The deal I tried:  This weeks ad shows Fructis shampoos, conditioners and stylers (certain ones) on sale for 2/$6 and generating points based on multiples of $10.  Most people don’t have access to 20 or 50 coupons, but this week I got lucky and on paper this scenario worked out great – – reality bites:

20 bottles of products for $60, less 15% discount, less $40 in mfr coupons (from 3/2 rp) would get you down to $11.  At that point you could have used a filler (mebbe a bag of chips) with the $10 RR from the previous paragraph…to end up paying a buck plus filler plus high tax.  Register wouldn’t take over 13 or 14 coupons (I forget ’cause we tried it a few times).  Yes, a mgr could override this, but they get red-flagged.  One or two coupons, sure, but we all know Walgreens registers are programmed by trolls secretly employed by CVS.

So now I’ve got a whole handful of $10 RRs to use up within the next two weeks.  Luckily Sunday’s ad has another of those 5,000 bonus points when you spend $25+ valid Sunday through Tuesday.  can’t believe i’m so low now on points…

Target receipts are still another language

Photo.jpg

Stopped at a Walgreens, so picked up another 10 or so bars of Caress – gawd does my dining room reek!  even more so than usual…

Full Target purchase included 6 bottles of Ice Mountain, four 3-pk Archer Farm K-cups, four bottles of up & up hydrogen peroxide, eight Starkist pouches and four 1/2 gallons of  lavender-scented bleach.  Used two $1/3 Ice Mountain printables (no longer available), four $2 off any no-size restrictions k-cup, four 50¢ Target first aid coupons and $2/2 up & up cleaning products (I think that one’s gone, too).  I have NO idea how my bill got to be so high, but my OOP was about $5!!!  Well, yeah, it was ’cause of the bleach, but I’m a wild and crazy guy when it comes to scented bleach!  Peroxide was 52¢ at the Naperville location although I’ve heard it’s higher elsewhere – two of the k-cups were $1.99 and two were $1.49.

K-cups go to MUD and peroxide is for blood stains after the apocalypse…although by then it won’t really matter, will it?

Wags: good coupons = free soap & bad coupons …

jail

Photo.jpg Starting 3/9 Walgreens will have the Bayer Contour NEXT meters once again on sale for $10 – this time you earn points. A chain – not in my area  – has a $10 coupon in their flyer which many sites have claimed is a legitimate coupon and authorized by the manufacturer for use at Walgreens.  Since I had sincere doubts about this (read: bullshit), I printed out the coupon in a few sizes and stopped in to several stores:  Each had this taped to their register counters and employees had been alerted.  Don’t try this, folks, ’cause it’s just plain stupid.  Bayer does have a coupon but to get it you need to fill in DOB, email, vitals, what meds you use now, etc….way too much info for these hinky points.

Photo.jpg

However, if you hustle your fat can over to Walgreens this week, you can score some very nice free soap:  single Caress bars are on sale for $1 (normally $1.99) and generating a $1.50 coupon good on any Caress product.  Since it’s a coupon and not a RR, you can roll it over and over as long as you want!  Use your points to make the first purchase and then you’ll pay only high tax for all subsequent purchases.   Some stores have the double-packs for $1.74, which also generate the $1.50 coupon, so if your store refuses to mark down the coupon to a buck, check for those clearance bars and pay 24¢ for the two plus tax.  Oh, each purchase also generates 50 loyalty points, a nice, if slow, way to build up those points!

Photo.jpg

And honestly? Individual bars smell nice, but a couple of bags is enough to make you pass out – I can’t get these to the food pantry fast enough!
