Wiping out Walgreens – today only!

photo.JPGFinally, a deal to use up the BOGO Clairol Nice ‘n Easy coupons that are expiring … TODAY! My original transactions (as shown) were one Nice ‘n Easy hair color and one root touch-up, plus 3 Colgate Enamel Health toothbrushes and toothpastes. Once again my local Walgreens are participating in the September Library Card promotion, which means an extra 15% off my purchase. Sadly, I hadn’t even stopped in Walgreens to even pick up the September IVC before today! But today more than made up for that lapse.  I used the BOGO Clairol coupon from the September P&G insert along with the few $2 Clairol coupons from 8/10S and 8/24S, together with the $2 Colgate coupons (limit 4 like coupons per transaction) from 9/14S.  The Sensitive toothbrushes and the only ones that ring at $3.49, the others are higher.  Each set of three generates 3,000 points, my total was over $25 so I earned an additional 5,000 points and my two hair products earned s $4 RR.   OOP with all coupons was $10.95 – I earned 11,000 points and $4RR for each.

By running all your toothpaste/hair color transactions first, you’ll score enough points to run the Clairol deal by itself and pay with your points.  I ran through all my remaining Clairol BOGO coupons and, since it wasn’t a points deal, paid with 5,000 points and 84¢ – and got back $4 RR.

If you are not blessed with the 15% library promotion discount, you can run this deal with 3 Colgate products and the Clairol plus a filler (or grab the more expensive toothbrushes).  I also picked up “a few” bags of M&Ms, using the $1 IVC coupon and the $1.50/2 from 8/10 rp.  Or you could just ignore the 5,000 points and run sets of 2 hair color/root touch-ups.  You’ll pay $5.99 plus tax and get back a $4RR.

Target and Walgreens tonight

photo.JPGHad some $4 RRs expiring today – nothing in the past two weeks to bother with, especially with all the register issues lately.  Lately being defined as anytime within the past five years.  Remember when deals were so smoking we were popping Estroven for the hot flashes?  Or was that only me?

I picked up these Depends for Men – “for Drips and Dribbles” – on the clearance end cap for $3.99. Threw in a baby body wash marked down to $2.99 since I had a new $2 RR I figured on dumping, too.  Get this – – all the RRs went through without a hitch! Seriously, I was going to be so done with Walgreens but now what to do?

Target was the same old same old in that I got Paper Mate pens but there was no Suave lotion at the Woodridge location (grabbed some earlier at the Rte 59 store), but they did have lots of Juicyfruit gum in the bottles.

Walgreens database crashes during upgrade – no Rx @ 8200 stores

Walgreen Co.’s pharmacy database crashed and remained down for several hours on Friday morning, blocking customers from filling prescriptions.

The Deerfield-based drugstore chain said the systems were restored at all of Walgreen’s 8,200 pharmacies by 1 p.m., said Jim Graham a spokesman.

The outage, which affected all Walgreens pharmacies across the country, occurred during a routine database update that went awry, requiring the entire system to shut down, Graham said. To read the entire article from the Chicago Tribune, click here.

Hahahahahahahaha…must be the same people doing the register upgrades…

Walgreens Friends & Family Sale: title pretty much eliminates customer base

UntitledYeah, jack the discount up to 20% but make it on regularly-priced items only. Prevent people from redeeming RRs on carts that total more than RR value. Yes, it happened to me finally. Stopped at a Walgreens to check out a product expiration date – – expired in May, so still a good deal at only $6 higher than Target.  All shelf tags read one price for a non-sale item and rang up 30¢ higher and they had to push the $4 RR I was trying to use on a $6 total purchase (no other coupons involved).  The only people who will benefit from this latest register idiocy will be the couponers who know enough to roll between RR and points deals.  when there are any…

MM wipes @ Wags…ymmv

Walgreens has 42 ct Cottonelle flushable wipes on sale for $1.99 plus there’s a $2 RR when you buy two.  Use the 50¢ coupon in 8/10 S plus a $1 IVC in the August book.  Pay about a buck and get $2.  Note that the IVC does NOT scan – the large, pop-up wipes are pictured, but the wording clearly specifies The Cottonelle Rresh Care flushable cleansing cloths 42 ct size.  If your store won’t push through the IVC, you’ll pay 49¢ each after the RR.

New RR wording – I test it out…

photo.JPGphoto.JPG

So many people out there claiming that the new wording on Register Rewards means that you can’t use these coupons on items of a value less than the face value of said RR. Falderal and balderdash I say!!  I bought four packs of Lays potato chips for $1.49 (did not use my card) and paid with a $4 RR.  First screen shot is of the four items with $4 coupon scan and the second shows the date and time.

Please – you know that a coupon-unfriendly clerk will use any and all excuses to explain why you didn’t get a Register Reward or why the coupons you are trying to use won’t work.

Wags for bonus points & very little cash

photo.JPG Ran this twice and will run it again at least once more before Wednesday. Picked up six Almay makeup removers at $6.49 each, B1G1 50% off. Used six $4 Almay coupons from 8/10 S and paid $7.31 ($2.12 was high tax). Each transaction earned me 6,450 points (5,000 3-day bonus on a $25 purchase and 1450 for the beauty club – I think).

PSA: Walgreens new RR wording

Been much talk about the new wording on the RRs:  Save $XX Off your Next In Store Purchase Over the value of Coupon.  People were thinking that if the RR were for, say $4, you would have to have at least a $4 item to use the RR.  That’s why there were so many glitches lately at Walgreens…or so the story went.

Balderdash!  Ever since Walgreens went to the cards and “upgraded” their registers to prevent impulse purchases and take control away from the managers, they’ve had a total clusterf**k there.  I figured the wording change was to prevent any employee from reducing the value to match a sale price (usually by a penny, right?).  Just got back from Walgreens where I rolled my $3 L’Oreal RRs into $4 P&G RRs on the Crest toothpaste and mouthwash deal:  Each set of two was $6, less the $3 RR and two $1 coupons (for rinse) plus a .13 pencil.  Paid $1.57 and got a $4 RR and 300 loyalty points.

Now let’s hope there’s something to buy in the next two weeks.

if U really need more L’Oreal…

photo.JPGSaw this on another site, but naturally had to personally test it. Good thing, too, because it did not work os posted. Walgreens has a points deal on L’Oreal Advanced products – Buy 2 and earn 2,000 points. You also get 50 points for every $1 spent on beauty and personal care through 8//30 (have them scan the coupon in the ad). There is also a RR promotion where you get a $1.50 RR when you buy two products or $3 RR when you buy three. You know which direction this post is going, right?

Note that the RR only prints when you purchase shampoo and/or conditioner, not all haircare products.  Trust me on this…lots of void transactions doing test runs.

Use the coupons in 7/27 rp (Chicago had Nesquik on the cover) and you’ll be scoring some really cheap products after RR and points.  How cheap depends on your coupons.

Free skin care products @ Wags

Use the $5 off any H2O product in the August IVC at Walgreens and you’ll have some mighty cheap travel sizes! They even have the products tagged with the XX price – $5 coupon = XX price…except in the case of the travel sizes, the XX price was blank! Works for me.
