Since we’re now heading into the Holiday season, thought I’d share something that just happened. I love those no-interest promotions so many stores offer – especially when you can set up online payments for the next year without having to think about it!
New card processor moved up the due date one day – which meant a $25 late fee. Since I now insist on paper statements (see below), I caught it in in one and called to have the fee waived. But then I had to go online and revise all the due dates for the upcoming year.
I used to go with those “paperless” offers – Help Mother Nature and all. But if they don’t print and you don’t print, someone’s gonna get screwed and I can guarantee it won’t be the pooch.
Case in point: Call the phone company for any problem and they’ll ask for your customer code, which is a number printed on the bill…which you don’t have…and can’t print ’cause you’re probably calling to report an internet outage. Last time I actually went through the bill online, I noticed some overseas calling service which was only a couple of bucks. Very easy to miss if you were only paying online – you’d assume it was just another of those handy-dandy fees or government-mandated offerings. Turns out it was a spin-off of a prior freebie promo and I’d been paying it for who knows how long – they can only go back six months. So now all bills are on paper – go hug your own tree.

When the red light went on at Hollywood’s Capitol Studios in 1967, singer Linda Ronstadt was scared. There to record “Different Drum”—her first lead-vocal single as a member of the Stone Poneys—Ms. Ronstadt was expecting to sing an acoustic ballad version of the song accompanied by her two bandmates.

Instead, a new faster arrangement had been written, a rhythm section and string players were brought in to replace the other two Stone Poneys, and Ms. Ronstadt had just seconds to figure out how she was going to phrase the lyrics and make the song work. Read the entire article with videos here.

The Empire State Building and Macy’s partnered to put on an Independence Day LED tower light show, created by world-famous lighting design artist Marc Brickman. It was designed and choreographed to the music curated by Usher for the fireworks. They’ve got about a bazillion LED lights changing with the music. The Empire State Building is apparently the only building in the world with the capability of creating synchronized light shows with a palette of more than 16 million colors and sparkle and fade effects.
Since they’re planning on an Empire State Building Halloween show – an electrifying LED tower light show synchronized to hit Halloween songs via Clear Channel radio, I figured I’d post now and then again when it hits YouTube. it’s really cool
Update: Got a media alert with more information about the Empire State Halloween show. Here’s the info about radio channels, the songs chosen and best viewing locations. Darn, sure wish PITA and I were gonna be sitting in Bryant Park for this one (although it’s probably a trifle cold)!
