clip a coupon, clip a car driving

It’s bad enough when you see a driver swerving along the road because they’re busy texting or watching a video. But look out – now there’s a new road hazard out there. That driver who’s about to hit you might be busy looking for coupons.

Root Insurance has released the results of its second annual “Holiday Distracted Driving Report.” And for some determined deal-seekers, it seems that even hurtling down the highway at a mile a minute isn’t enough to stop them from searching for savings.  Here’s the Coupons in the News article.

Grocery shop blues? let jow do it for you

Why waste time going to the store and picking out groceries, when you can just download an app that will do it all for you?

As apps and online shopping have made grocery shopping easier, a French startup has taken things to their logical conclusion. It’s created an app that will decide what you need, fill your cart, and have everything ready to be delivered to you or picked up at the store – and you barely have to lift a finger.  Here’s the Coupons in the News article.

Scan once for customer, once for me

A Kroger cashier in West Virginia has been arrested for allegedly double-dipping on coupons, by giving her coupon-bearing customers a discount, then using the same coupons to give herself a discount – in the form of cash.

36-year-old Danielle Catron of Beckley, West Virginia was charged with embezzlement last Wednesday. Over a two-month period beginning in September, police say she reused hundreds of coupons that she had accepted from customers, rescanned them, removed the equivalent amount of cash from her register, and pocketed it.  Here’s the entire article from Coupons in the News.

Sunday SmartSource coupons

We’re supposed to get one SmartSource insert in this Sunday’s paper (12/15). Remember, not all papers carry the same coupons or even have the same value.  I see Kemp “crab” and “lobster” packs on markdown all the time, so a sale + reduced sticker + coupon = free or possible money maker with a rebate, especially since the coupons are good through May!

Back at last

Short post and then back to deals.  I was in the hospital on the condemned floor from Monday through yesterday, and it was impossible to get online with anything over dial-up speed – honestly, they should call it WI-IF.  I call it condemned because the floor is being closed down within the next ten days and has never been modernized or updated; luckily FirstBorn had a screwdriver handy to tighten the light switch plates back to the wall, but the heat lamp timer???? well, that was completely pulled away from the wall and my suggestion of throwing water on it wasn’t seconded by my family 🙁  It literally took 20 minutes for the water in the shower to reach wash temperature (yeah, I timed it).  Maybe more later, but all the employees were super.

Mickey D’s for your car parts?

On Wednesday, McDonald’s and Ford Motor Company said they are joining forces to turn McDonald’s coffee bean waste into vehicle parts. Specifically, headlamp parts from Lincoln cars coming off the assembly line later this month will be made with chaff, skin waste created after roasting coffee beans.

The Chicago-based quick-service chain, who is working with Starbucks to fast-track the creation of a compostable cup, said the coffee bean project is part of a long-term commitment to find secondary uses for waste materials.  Article in Nation’s Restaurant News here.

For shame, Family Dollar

Is your Family Dollar store a little… unkempt? A Colorado woman says hers is, even though the company’s management has promised to tidy up. So she’s become the latest shopper to sue Family Dollar to try to force it to clean up its act.  Here’s the full article from Coupons in the News.

Holy Guacamole, Batman…but no carrots

What Do You Get When You Combine a Coupon And a Record-Setting Display?  The answer – really cheap guacamole!  Here’s the entire article in Coupons in the News.

It’s typically not easy to find coupons for fresh produce. But lately, it’s not hard at all to find coupons for avocados, thanks to an aggressive industry marketing group that offers plentiful coupons, ads, displays – and stunts like the one that it’s pulled off in New Orleans this week.

Avocados From Mexico has set up a Guinness world record-setting display of avocados in a Rouses Market grocery store. Overflowing boxes stacked nearly to the ceiling contain a total of 112,000 avocados. That’s plenty for everyone – and they’re plenty cheap, too. During “Avocado Fest,” avocados are on sale, three for a dollar, and Avocados from Mexico is offering coupons in store that bring the total price down to three for just 25 cents.

all you need is that one cashier…

A Dollar General shopper in Florida got $2,125 worth of gift cards by using the same few coupons over and over again. Her cashier got a couple of bottles of hand sanitizer as a “thank you.” Now, the cashier has lost her job, has a felony conviction on her record and owes $1,452.50 – while her customer is in the clear.

Hope that hand sanitizer was worth it!

Nearly nine months after her arrest, 21-year-old Shatina McMullen of Leesburg, Florida has been convicted of grand theft, after entering a plea of no contest. She faced a potential prison sentence of five years, but instead has been sentenced to time served, plus $1,452.50 in court costs and fines.  Here’s the Coupons in the News article.
