stimulus checks already going out?

Hadn’t heard about anyone actually receiving extras in their bank account – did you get a surprise deposit?  Those who filed tax returns for 2018 or 2019 with direct deposit could likely see payments come in between Monday and Wednesday, as most banks were closed for Easter and would begin processing payments after the weekend.  Most banks also closed early on Friday.

Will our brand loyalty permanently shift?

Someday, this coronavirus emergency will end and we can all go back to life as normal. But will our grocery shopping habits return to normal?

Maybe you’re worried about money and have had to cut back on your typical purchases. Maybe you couldn’t find your preferred brands, and actually kind of liked the ones you ended up with. And maybe you stockpiled so much toilet paper that you won’t need to buy any more for years.  Here’s the Coupons in the News article.  I think people losing brand loyalty is very important because only sales and coupons will bring them back into the fold, imo.

Keeping it simple & healthy

We might be poor couponing fools, but the eating’s good, and that’s the most important thing, right?  Bread from yesterday’s batch, a nice ripe Camembert, local tomatoes and fresh basil from our AeroGarden (told you it was great).

COD: only online Summer classes 2020

Just got the text:  COD has announced all Summer classes will be held online to ensure the continued safety of their students and staff.  Guess that’s it for my dance and activity classes, which really don’t translate well to an online-only format.

Still have dairy limits at your store?

Most stores are still limiting how much toilet paper you can buy. You can only grab one or two cleaning or sanitizing products, if you can find any at all. But many stores are still limiting purchases of dairy products like milk – even though dairy farmers are pleading with them to let shoppers buy as much as they’d like. Here’s the article from Coupons in the News – I’ve read on other sites about farmers being forced to dump this perishable product and that’s just horrible.

Panera or Subway for Groceries?

Is your local grocery store still running low on the essentials? Do you need to restock, but don’t want to risk going into the store, and can’t manage to secure a delivery or pickup window?

Then why not head to your local fast food joint? Not for burgers and fries – but for bread, milk, veggies and more.  Here’s the Coupons in the News article.  Note that this is a new program and has a limited roll-out at present.

Yes to the cake mix, no to the baking pan

Just about everything that started as one retailer’s response to the coronavirus pandemic has quickly become commonplace. A few weeks ago, someone came up with the idea of senior shopping hours, stricter return policies, plexiglass cashier shields and stripped-down (or no) weekly circulars – now, it seems nearly everyone has followed suit. More recent quickly-adopted trends have included floor decals promoting social distancing and limits to the number of people allowed inside a store at one time.

Could roped-off sections of the store, forbidding you from buying certain items, be the next trend to catch on?  Here’s the entire article from Coupons in the News.  Reminds me of a zillion years ago when a brother lived in Missouri and their Sunday laws allowed alcohol and food sales, but prohibited brooms and the like.  but figured, hey, it’s Missouri…

Rebate APPs move to include online buys

It’s difficult saving money during a pandemic. It’s also difficult if your entire business model is based on helping people to save money, when people are trying to avoid shopping as much as possible.

So some of your favorite rebate and rewards apps are having to get creative to keep you engaged, and keep their businesses up and running. Some are offering more ways to earn from home, while others are offering special rewards on items they otherwise wouldn’t.  Here’s the Coupons in the News article – see what money you might be missing with all your online purchases.

more stockpile cooking

While I would never take delight in this COVID situation we are all in, I do feel a sense of vindication of my stockpile buying habits – I’ve only had to shop for milk, oat milk (for Pita) and half and half since the middle of March, although honesty compels me to admit Pita surprised me with a bag of organic potatoes because she knew I’d be too cheap to buy them 🙂 I make a loaf of bread every two days ’cause that’s the one thing we’re all nuts about; the chili used quite a few cans of beans (still have cases) plus tomatoes and Beyond Meat from the freezer (sale, rebate APP and reduced sticker purchases).  If we keep bingeing The Great British Bakeoff I might start in on the fancy stuff …
