All the news that fits: when you need really, really fast sandwich delivery…

UntitledApparently there is now a company called Jafflechutes (jaffles are what they called grilled cheese sandwiches down under – gawd help ’em) that will parachute you a grilled cheese sandwich for about 5-6 bucks. This Australian cheese-maker has branched out into NYC where you pay your money, stand on the X and the drop is made. Come on now, I appreciate the novelty of this, but can’t you find a grilled cheese sandwich any closer? And maybe even hot?

Sunday’s inserts (Chicago area)

Here’s a quick shot of the two inserts we’ll be getting in the 5/4 Chicago Tribune – Smart Source and red plum.  That’s assuming you get inserts, of course…

and just where is that woman pole dancing, anyway?  A bikini in Chicago when it’s 40º on the lake is probably a trifle optimistic…she’d need leg hair for warmth

Ladies’ Home Journal to End Monthly Publication

BN-CN344_0424LH_G_20140424180612All over the news this morning, that Ladies’ Home Journal, currently issued 10 times per year, will cease monthly and convert to a quarterly publication after the July issue.  Even better news is that this quarterly issue will be newstand-only.  They’re trying to blame changing consumer habits and declining ad revenue…sure, ’cause we all wanna read our magazines on tablets in the tub…dumbasses.  wonder how much they pay out in salaries to the big wigs…

And no mention of what’s gonna happen to the current subscribers…my subscription is scheduled to run through July/August 2022…no joke.  It’s been published for over 130 years so I thought, what’s the risk?  double dog dumbasses

Coffee bean prices expected to surge due to Brazil drought

The following is excerpted from an article in the Wall Street Journal about expected price hikes in coffee beans.  And yet you still make fun of my coffee stockpile…

The coffee market is boiling over, with prices almost doubling year to date, and analysts say it is only a matter of time before consumers get burned.

Arabica-coffee prices soared to a 26-month high in the futures market after a top merchant cut its forecast for Brazil’s drought-stricken crop. Brazil produces about one-third of all coffee and more than half of the world’s arabica beans, which are prized for their mild flavor and used in gourmet blends.

The forecast, by Volcafe Ltd., a unit of commodities trader ED&F Man Holdings Ltd., was the latest sign that Brazil’s coffee trees haven’t rebounded from some of the driest weather in decades at the start of the year. Dry weather stunts the growth of cherries, the fruit that contains the seeds that are roasted to make coffee beans.

The full extent of the damage won’t be known until after the harvest ramps up in May. Volcafe cut its 2014 crop outlook by 11% from its January estimate and predicts the world will face a shortage of 11 million 60-kilogram bags of coffee beans this season.

Reminder: Home Run Inn dock sale is this Friday (pizzas under $3!)

Do the math – you will never find HRI pizzas for under $3 even with sales and coupons. And stomachs can’t tell the difference between thrift and retail.

Untitled

Thrift pizzas are cosmetically defective (pepperoni or sausage in wrong spots, etc.), but otherwise exactly the same as retail, bulk pizzas are the pretty boys you find in grocery freezers.  I have to admit these are very tasty pizzas.

These Dock Sales are only held a couple of times a year, so if HRI is your fave, stock up now.  Location is easily accessible (link to Google Maps).

All the news that fits: all systems go-ne

Decided to upgrade my OS (yes, I’m a mac) from 10.7.5 to Mavericks (10.9) – yes, I’m a laggard in some respects.  But I digress.  So the download took about 5 hours – not kidding – and then I had to install.  So the laptop went along fine with the program, but apparently my desktop’s hard drive is in imminent danger of failing, so not only was that a total waste of time, but now I have to back up the entire drive and buy another one.  So I’ll be back in full force tomorrow – and hope to see you all at the Lisle Library tomorrow from 1-3 for the MashupMom/deranged.me Coupon Swap & Stockpile Exchange.  Lots of good stuff and people showing up.
