All the news that fits…

Just got back from a library presentation by the producer of Small Town Flavor, a internet-tv show that kind of harks back to Mayberry life –  except this is reality tv with no fame whores.

The first (pilot) episode is centered in Fairhope, Alabama and shows one full day of activity staring with fresh seafood being caught (off the pier with nets!) and an incredible market that uses solar/wind power, rainwater, graywater and freebies.  Watch them harvest pecans and sort them – I had no idea that it takes 10-15 years for pecan trees to mature enough to actually produce a crop!  I’m definitely going with hazelnuts for the backyard now!  You meet the people who’ve run family businesses for generations (Fairhope proper dates back to 1894 although I seem to recall some buildings being much, much older.).  No violence, mayhem or over-the-top characters, just regular people you’d like to live next to:  Fannie Flagg has a home there, so she’s probably their biggest “celebrity” – and she’s not.

Anyway, take a gander, ’cause it’s interesting.  They’ve already shot episode two, which will be released in early September.  Their goal is to run episodes clustered around an area, which will allow people to do road trips for more than one location.
