Tried to buy two Gear Speedsticks today at Walgreens (2/$8), using the BOGO coupon from 5/11 S with the $2 4/27 S one – didn’t see why there’d be a problem, since I wasn’t getting anything free. Most stores allow this, since you’re using the $2 on the full-price item you’re buying and then getting the freebie. I mean, wouldn’t Walgreens want the business? Oh, wait, strike that last comment, since each register upgrade and corporate decision seems to be make their stores more and more customer unfriendly. If the cashier hits payment and misses a coupon – TOTAL VOID. Want to add a pack of cigarettes or any other impulse item – VOID. Buy too many items – VOID.
I’m waiting for the next software upgrade to cause the receipts to print out “thank you for shopping CVS…”
I walked out today, left everything at the register. Tired of every coupon being a problem, tired of the cashiers just standing there looking at you like you said give me all the money in the register. I have a Target right across the street from my Walgreens and I will continue to go there more and more.
Isn’t it freaky how we’ve gone from “Target is the devil – can’t figure out their receipts and the registers all try to screw you” to “Walgreens is the devil and the registers all want to screw you” in a matter of months? I have spent MORE time (although less $$) at Target within the past six months than I have in the past six years! If they’d just eliminate that “Limit 4 like coupons” wording I’d love them long time…
I know, lol.
I go weeks inbetween my Walgreens trips anymore because it’s infuriating to shop there. Between the aforementioned register issues and limitations, incompetent and unfriendly employees, and their ridiculous 1 coupon per 1 item rule, it’s just too complicated to shop there. I sometimes go if something is extremely straightforward and I don’t anticipate any issues. It’s a shame because there’s a Walgreens about 3 blocks walk from my apartment. CVS is a 20 min walk (albeit across from the Jewel I frequent) and I 9 times out of 10 will go to CVS instead. I constantly wish I had a CVS closer than that stupid Walgreens!
Tbh, CVS will always win in my book because of the flexibility of the Extra Care Bucks vs Register Rewards and BR points. I love love LOVE that CVS lets you use the ECB with almost no limitations beyond the understandable ones on top of store/manf. coupons. Screw Walgreens for making it near impossible to use my RR/BRP half the time or forcing me to impulsively throw random filler items onto the order that I technically don’t need.
Agreeeeed! I hate Walgreen’s and their stupid bouncing from RR to Points. It drives me wild and I usually let RR expire because there is nothing worth while. While CVS usually let me redeem expired ECB and are accommodating.
