Tuesday

downloadMonday’s storms were really something – and as always, the Flood of April, 2013 lurked in the back of my mind.  Basement was fine when I went to bed, but at some point during the night the new injector pump stopped and I found a soggy basement, although, admittedly only a couple of inches and only in a few sections, when I went down to run laundry.  The drainage tiles outside that direct water into the sump pump well work very well and the water kept coming in but was not getting pumped back out.

Immediately texted DH at work:  basement flooded.  pump not working.  Amazed that the phone range within seconds and he said he’d be up in about an hour (long commute).  He put on a pair of Crocs boots and went into the basement.  How discombobulated was I?  I had already soaked through two pairs of slippers and never even thought to put on my own matching Crocs!  Or maybe use the wet vac instead of brooms and towels!  Yeah, I’ll admit it:  He was way ahead of the Goddess on this one!

So no stockpiles were harmed, but lots of wet boxes of stuff we’re storing for a friend have to go out today.  DH poked at the pump a bit and it came back on.  This new one is so quiet that you can’t hear if it’s working or not, only by the water coming out the hose and decreased water in the well.  So spent the morning and afternoon mopping and washing towels.  ugh.  DH says we’ll keep an eye on the pump ’cause maybe it’s just something that caught the float.  Sent FirstBorn down to check before going to bed and everything was fine then and fine now.

The rest of the day we were at my mom’s visiting my brother and niece who’d just flown in...fun’s over, now back to work, you lazy Goddess!

  1. That sucks but glad to hear the stock pile is OK!

My house is less flooded and more overwhelmed. Our water heater died AND the dryer. Lots of dirty clothes and cold, cold showers.

  2. When we moved into this house we had a sump with a float that would get stuck. Eventually it burnt out the pump.

You might want to change it out and save yourself the catastrophe.

We just replaced ours AGAIN a couple weeks ago. $250 sucks but not more than a wet, moldy basement.
