February comp tickets to Saint Joan by ShawChicago Theater

saint-joan-temp-2Saint Joan is Shaw at his finest, a masterfully original telling of the Joan of Arc story that mixes comedy and history with the legendary playwright’s uniquely pointed commentary on religion, society and politics. Considered by many to be Shaw’s greatest play, Saint Joan played a major role in the playwright’s 1925 Nobel Prize win. In this concert reading from ShawChicago Theater Company, we meet the Joan of Arc that Shaw believed in: not a saint, witch or madwoman, but a simple farm girl who becomes the catalyst for a united France. Propelled by saintly voices only she can hear, she leads the French forces to defeat the invading English army, only to be accused of heresy and witchcraft in the aftermath of victory.  Get comp tickets to ShawChicago’s February performances at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts.

Goldstar comps: Standing in Mattoon

unnamedGet comp up to $8.50 tickets to the Jedlicka Performing Arts Center’s run of Standing in Mattoon.  In this comical, character-driven production, a small town in Illinois finds itself embroiled in a contest of endurance. A funny tale about sad people trying to change their sad (and funny) lives by winning a van, Standing in Mattoon presents an ensemble of desperate characters taking part in the contest. There’s an appealing bagel factory worker who’s thinking of leaving Mattoon. There’s a curiously enigmatic stranger. There’s even a reverend who’s losing his faith as his congregation flees for a nearby megachurch. Offbeat and unpredictable, Standing in Mattoon tells a story that is both comedic and touching.
